Hey ghetsis isn't a push over you know. He's the only evil boss that tried to kill the protagonist and get rid of them to carry out his plan in black and white 2. He's actually hardcore
if you ask me he comes off more as unhinged really but...he may have been the only one. In the games that is, although sun and moon lusamine for a second looked like she was gonna kill lillie actually
I think the way people horribly reacted after BW affects whether the game is a reboot or not. They were clearly trying a lot of new things with it and the way people scoffed at it I think hurt gamefreak. You can't deny it, they put a lot of effort in those games. The likes of which we haven't seen since GS and we haven't seen that effort again. It's really sad. I'm not saying it's an excuse for SwSh but you can sort of see why that kills a series' momentum.
Thank you!!! I have always been saying this; I swear that if people had seen B/W for the gems they were at the time they were released, Gamefreak wouldn't have seen a need to "rework" the games in XY to what the series is today. I actually enjoy the modern games, but man, would I not kill to see how these modern games would have turned out if game freak put the same love into them they did BW.
I don't think Sword and Shield are anywhere as bad as a lot of people complain it to be. But even if it was, they do deserve it after scoffing at Black and White. And all this scoffing at Sword and Shield just might make things worser if we think about it.
Agreed for the most part, but I think the fan base's reaction really shaped what kind of reboot Pokemon got. A lot of people don't seem to realize they've been talking about the number of new Pokemon being unsustainable since back then. If Black and White succeeded they may have kept making games with completely new Pokemon, but because they didn't do so well Game Freak decided to play it safe and do a mix of old and new. Regional variants are a sort of compromise. They cater to gen 1 fans the same way Nintendo caters to Ocarina of Time fans with Zelda. As much as fans complain about the direction the series has taken they really are the reason for it, ironically even right down to the more mature tone being reverted back.
Maybe if they had actually gauged interest from the people buying the games they would have realized the new ones wouldn’t go over well. Seems like they just simply don’t care about satisfying the returning customers anymore.
Fun fact: Cyrus wanted to reboot theuniverse and if gen 5 is a soft reboot then that could actually mean that Cyrus’s plan worked *surprised picachu face*
Maybe Cyrus' plan did work but the player intervening caused the universe to be reset in a good way rather than the bleak, nothing world Cyrus wanted. Kind of like when Lucas pulls the final needle at the end of Mother 3.
I can’t lie, I really enjoy Black and White. I really enjoyed the story and playing with brand new Pokémon era. I felt like I was going through a new world and discovering all of these new Pokémon. It brought me to the anime and I felt like was on a journey with him. I also saw so many similarities to Gen 1 but only see it as my gen 1.
Yeah, technically white 2 was my first pokemon game, not the original black and white, but it definitely still feels like my gen 1. The previous games kinda had the same feel as games that your parents played when they were young. You almost feel like you aren't being you, but someone else
And years later, many long time fans finally realize that the Gen 5 games were truly some of the best Pokemon games ever made both in gameplay and story.
They really aren't. Gen 5 is considered good nowadays for the same reason gen 1 ever was considered good. Nostalgia. Gen 5 kids grew up and replaced genwunners on the internet as the "vocal majority". No old pokemon? Actually a good change, fair enough. Designs? Just as terrible as gen 1's, with few actually cool ones scattered around. "Deeper" story? If by depth you mean a splash of water on the sidewalk. It's pretty much "baby's first philosophy lesson" level of depth. "More interesting" characters? Straight out of people's assholes; the characters are not particularly different from any previous gen. Graphics? Still terrible for the standards of its day. Nintendo graphics have always been subpar up until Switch.
@@pan2614 most people liked gen 5, gen 5 sold out instantly, it was the most sold gen at the time, which is why its the only game with a direct sequel. gen wunners whined and whined as a vocal minority
@@JohnSmith-kb4re okay sure No old pokemon - good, agreed Designs - Most of all of the designs were good and meant to improve the gen 1 designs, and they did that phenomenally Deeper Story - yes absolutely. It dealt with problems in the real world instead of just "There are bad guys, let's defeat them and become the champion". It had the most and best character development Pokemon has ever seen More Interesting Characters, yes. Let's compare: Cheren - Wanted to become champion, later realized there's more than just strength involved. Compare him to Blue - Just your childhood friend who thought he was tough. No goals. Compared to Barry - Another childhood friend who thought he was tough, also was a nuisance. N - Had a vision for the good of pokemon, and sought that future out. Giovanni - Mafia Boss. Archer - Wannabe Mafia Boss. Maxie/Archie - wanted more land/water. Cyrus - An insane person who disliked the world. Get my point? Graphics - Pretty good for the time. It was on a DS. There was a massive world in Pokemon, and you think they could have made it 3D in just three years? On a DS? While still working on remakes and games for the Wii and DS? Also, for you "Gen 5 kids grew up and replaced genwunners on the internet as "Vocal Majority", that's false. Ever since the Sinnoh fans got Sinnoh, they had been whining for remakes. And when they got them, and they were trash. You never hear about Gen 2 Kids complaining "we don't have remakes yet". Same for Gen 3, 5, and 6 kids.
People say that Gen 5 was when Pokémon changed. However, I disagree. Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were truly the last games of the "Golden Age" of Pokémon.

That idea goes against the whole point of pokemon tho, "gotta catch them all" is the pokemon's slogan, many people love those pokemon and have strong connection with them
@@w925gaming6 Pikachu literately gotten so jealous in one episode just because Ash was spending more time with Riolu, Gengar, Dragonite, and Farfetch'ed that he ran away. (like seriously WTF Pikachu?)
Honestly, the whole hatred for gen 5 i never understood it did a lot of great things like version differences actually caused differences in the games, difficulty options, and the best story a pokemon game had to date and the most new pokemon in a game. it wasn't till gen 7 and 8 that i realized where the hatred came from. Pokemon fans don't like change at all. with gen 7 and the island trials changing up what gyms could be in a pokemon game fans especially older ones where hard against them and with gen 8 making the inevitable decision of pokemon cuts the simple idea they couldn't use the same team threw people into an utter rage. it became clear everytime something new was added or you couldn't use the old it was met with sheer backlash. Z moves, mega evolution, triple and rotation battles, dynamax, and yes even new pokemon were considered the worst thing ever until the next game and it's new thing. Pokemon fans say they want the games to inovate and try something new a lot of the times are the largest voices that don't want the games to change. And it is very obvious with each game we are getting less and less new pokemon and just variations of old pokemon that game freak is sadly listening to those voices. and it's been quite obvious for a while that we will never get a new generation like BW where everything is new and we have a bunch of new pokemon. Because in a large part ofthe pokemon fanbase they have forgotten pokemon is about the new journey and the new pokemon not just catch them all
The story was also badly executed though. Let's not overlook that. It was very badly handled, in the end. You were told what to think, which is really stupid. They did the great story wrong.
@@shadowlance8212 Especially with your notion of 'only main games' it's absolutely right. Of course Pokemon Ranger and Mystery Dungeon had vastly better Storys. Of course. I think improving these games even further will create amazing stuff and bring back the old quality. ...But I'm not very optimistic about anything at the moment... X and Y was because Game Freak stop trying, no one liked how bold they went with black and white, so gen 6 was game freak started playing it safe and relying on nostalgia by putting the three gen 1 starters in the game
@@Diabolos1007 pretty much why gen 5 was realy the best. They didn't afraid to try New Idea , making a real story etc. Gen 6 feel juste like a remake of gen 1. They even reuse some map from gen 1. The first forest is the same layout of viridian forest with the same pokémon and trainer... The game even give you starter from gen 1 and said "hey look its gen 1 starter and they have mega evo. You can trow away your New starter and take them."
I wish they just focused on hardcore fans and not just the competitive ones. Give us more new Pokémon. Stop trying to pander to Gen 1 when Gen 2 got nothing along Gen 6 mons and some gen 5 mons that deserve attention. Make a story that makes sense.
In Gen 6, they basically forgot to focus on the new Pokemon entirely. None of the new Pokemon got Megas until ORAS, which then only added a Mega for a Mythical Pokemon that didn't even exist for most of XY. Your starter was basically guaranteed to be overshadowed by the Kanto starter you got because it could Mega Evolve. Gen 5 did have a similar problem initially with only 2 of the new Pokemon having access to their Hidden Abilities initially, but this was at least fixed in B2W2, where only a couple of Pokemon didn't have access to them. Gen 7 didn't have this problem because any Pokemon could use a Z move and the starters even got exclusive ones right away. Gen 8 had this problem a bit simply because the starters didn't have Gigantamax forms until the DLC came out, but at least any Pokemon can Dynamax.
I am a Digimon and a Pokemon fan. On one end, i found digimon growing up with me - its games and anime catering to my new grown-up understanding of the world. Sadly, that wasn't entirely the case with Pokemon. Black and White was THE thing i missed out on Pokemon for years. It felt like Pokemon finally decided to grow up for its fans and its story was easily the best in all the games so far. The game seemed to respect its players, which is sadly something recent titles don't really do. I really would've preferred if BW was a reboot point for the franchise to mature
I wonder what you think about gen 9's story, is a bit darker for Pokemon standars, yknow, divorce, a child having neglectful parents, someone straight up dying and it not being mentioned until a fake one says it, a child having to say goodbye twice to it's parent even if he couldn't do it in person the first time, and even if later they didnt give him much attention, his parent still loved him Now that I think about it, all of this is connected to a single character, a tragic character for sure, the other ones is one who made a team to stand up to bullying and then being blamed as the bad guys while the school director didn't give a frick about the bullying and another one who's basically a Pokemon player, became the greatest and nothing is a challenge anymore to the point it's boring and wishes there was a challenge, someone difficult to beat The protagonist is just there for the ride
Pokemon peaked at gen 5. The story was amazing, the music was amazing, rotation battles, bring that mechanic back please, it was actually challenging, and I know this is gonna sound crazy but MY GOD IT HAD JUST A REGIONAL DEX. I think from now on, Pokemon should have a REGIONAL DEX ONLY, with ONLY new pokemon to bond with and experience, and THEN as a post game reward, get the nat pokedex. We really could've had that going foward, but nah the Pokemon Fandom LOST ITS MIND over not having their PRECIOUS pokes, and thus in BlackWhite 2, we get old pokemon back. Thanks I hate it.
Gen 5 was dexit done right. It encourages you to bond with the new pokemon, while still allowing you to get your old friends when it matters. Let's be real, there's no reason you need your full team of level 100s in the main story. Sword and shield was kinda the worst of both worlds. Not only can only certain pokemon be brought forwards, but some can, and you can go out and catch a full team of old mons pretty quickly, leaving your starter and any new pokemon boxes. Gen 5 was the first and only generation to encourage you to bond with the newer pokemon rather than using them as a way to get to your older favorites and maybe bonding with them in the process. It didn't need that in black/white 2, because everyone has had the time in between games to bond with the gen 5 mons, so at that point it would have served no purpose except to piss off the people who didn't like it.
I think BW 2 are my favorite pokemon games of all times, because it was the first ones, but more, the story is definitelly a bir worse than the first one but a lot of stuff like the bigger map, more modes and the variety of pokemon being included made it really enjoyable And i still love BW1 but i think it isnt as replayable mainly for the lacking variety of pokemon even if all od them are great
@@ribottostudio oh yeah, i would love a new pokemon only dex of gen 6 with 70 mons. Every trainer could have 6 fletching on the team. Either that or bloat the pokedex with more filler mons than necessary.
How about trying to absorb the mystic energy that holds the universe together, in turn destroying the universe and they will even kill the protagonist to obtain their goals. That good? Maybe the mystic energy/magicky stuff was made by unown so some more lore for unown
Gen 5 has to be my favorite gen other than the first one, I really like the designs of all the Pokémon and the people the story was probably my favorite as well. Though it is sad the previous Pokémon weren’t there until later
I actually have the opposite opinion to you, but for the same reasons you like it, at least when it comes to the Pokemon: Gen 1 and gen 5 have some serious low points in designs for me, and a lot of mediocre ones, which has always kept them from being my favourites.
@Nadia Blue Well, that does make _a lot_ of sense if we consider GameFreak's possible intentions as pointed out in the video. They wanted to gauge the reactions of new fans into the series as well as old fans to figure out what went well in the beginning and, hence, why they replaced many first gen pokemon and stuck to a similar yet still unique story line by adding in new elements that still distinguishes it from gen 1. Given the fact that gen one was nearing 20 years prior at that point, it's not unreasonable to think they may have lost ties to original fans and didn't make the best of notes about what went well initially and what went wrong. Hence, retesting the waters was probably a great move on GF's part as they probably lost touch with their fanbase after such a long time. Even if sales were at its lowest for B&W, it still was a learning opportunity for them so they can make some necessary changes to future games as per fan input, while still sticking to their personal view on where the series should move forward. Also, it may have helped them to learn where they could make risks with major changes/additions into their later games despite knowing about potential backlash: mega-evolution and a new pokemon typing in gen 6, regional variants, concept of ultra beasts, no gyms in gen 7, dynamax/gigantamax gimick, raid battles, [partial] free-roam mechanic, and no elite four in gen 8, etc. Tl;dr Hypothesis: Gen 5 was a _necessary_ experimental gen for a great learning opportunity for GameFreak. After a long time, they may have lost touch with fans and didn't take good notes of criticisms in the beginning.

Well no wonder you love B&W so much-it's where you BEGAN the franchise! If I started with generation 5 instead of generation 1, it would have been my favourite too.
Gen V was amazing and really had fascinating depths to the story and characters. Bianca and Cheren really showed off the themes of ideals and truth in their growth and even with Team Plasma talking to the various members showed how there were some who truly believed in N's cause, those who merely saw Pokemon as tool and were confused on why the Pokemon with them were so attached, and those who were just villains. This game left such an impression and I loved how they took it into sequel territory. A shame we never got a B3W3 to show off the original dragon and maybe bring everyone together for a massive conclusion to the Unovan story.
This really does make a ton of sense! I personally feel like the Mewtwo/Genesect comparison is probably the biggest evidence. Mewtwo was literally the "shock and awe" of the original games because he was "made". Then the company does it again with Genesect? They had to have known what they could be implying 🤷♂️
To be fair, the games themselves never really confirmed that Team Rocket was behind Mewtwo's creation - just hints that Giovanni wanted to get it for himself.
@@MrAuthor3DS Right! However, the texts in Cinnabar Island do confirm his creation in general. Just like Genesect they both aren't natural beings. I think that's why they created the Genesect movie too. Just to show there was such a deliberate similarity by having both pokemon in it.

Ash's Charizard came back sometime after the Unova Pokémon League. The last Season for Black and White brought back plenty of past Gen Pokémon as Game Freak were working on X and Y.
I believe they brought back past gen Pokemon in the anime after the black and white league, or during to coincide with the games seeing as you could catch past gen Pokemon after the pokemon league in game.

@@archiiebarrett jump to 3d went fine with sun and moon. it is like it takes a while for the devs to be Ok with the new tools they are given. Same with gen 4. gen 5 really perfected the DS spritework. And now, it will be the same with the HD games. If gen 9 or 10 still looks and runs like SWSh, then we will have an issue. Gamefreak is obviously lazy and incompetent for being unfamiliar with HD development. It's not like they have been working on handheld mainly for the last 2 decades. They can't magically make SE caliber looking games on their first get go. They just need a better workflow now because of how much time HD games takes compared to 3ds games.
It should also be mentioned that Dawn did make an appearance in the BW anime for a few episodes during the Meloetta arc. This further shows that Ash still went through all of the same events.
Gen 5 also, IMO, had the best _writing_ the series ever had, with (relatively) complex characters, more extensive involvement from named characters outside the rivals/antagonist bosses, and substantially better dialogue. I think the reason Pokémon’s sales dwindled so much is because back in gen 1, well, as you said...Pokémon fever was at an all-time high. It was something brand new. EVERYONE was a part of the craze. Nowadays it’s really just older fans that keep buying the games, because kids nowadays are trying their best to look “mature” and don’t want to play “baby games” like Pokémon.
As an old German saying goes: People don't know what they want. Edit: And IF somebody knows what he / she wants, said person gets called a weirdo, stupid, salty or not entitled.
I always see people talking about how much they hate the idea of removing old pokemon because the connections have with them, and I feel they're missing the point. If I give you a choice between your old pokemon team with the exception of a new starter, or going and catching a new team and forming new connections, which would you choose? People complain about how repetitive pokemon can be but the get mad if it changes to much because it's not nostalgic. This was sort of a way to fix that, and I like that, it gives you similar choices that are still unique enough to stand out. That sense of nostalgia will be much better if you go play an old game after a new one, or with a remake, but let the new game be a new adventure to give you something new to be nostalgic about.
The anime arguments make sense but unfortunately there’s like a whole section of gen5 anime where Dawn and Cynthia and I think Misty all came back and still very much exist
to me black & white's direction changed since team rocket vs team plasma ep got cancelled & by that time people hated BW maybe the writers felt bring back old characters will attract older fans back to pokemon anime
The entire Best Wishes anime got screwed when the planned Team Rocket v.s. Team Plasma showdown had to be scrapped due to the earthquake and tsunami. All their plans had to be changed, and what they decided to do as a result turned out bad. And when Black 2 and White 2 came around they decided to just throw that content in without a second thought.

I felt they did a good job marketing despite its poor sales compared to other entries into the Pokémon franchise but still. I loved Black and White as well as Black 2 and White 2.
i cant help but feel that backlash on black and white was taken wrongly by gamefreak and might be the reason that they do some of the things they do now... oh and same for super paper mario lots of people loved and hated gen 5 and SPM
Remember also that the different regional Pokemon companies didn't merge into Pokemon International until shortly after Platinum released. It's likely that they realized they had to turn to international and new, younger audiences to create a sustainable market. From henceforth Pokemon would be soft-rebooted every gen and would no longer be a Japanese game shared internationally, but an international game. Notice, that a lot of the "copies" of older pokemon that were yokai based, or the like, no longer are. It was a good starting point for them to learn how to integrate foreign culture into design, and they've done better and better since.
I remember when the first image of Unova was published… it was probably in CoroCoro and people on forums were speculating if it is based on NYC or Shanghai.
That’s a pretty rudimentary summoning ritual. THIS is how you do it: “Gen 8 has the most content and best plot of any Pokémon series! It’s also the most mature and challenging.”
I have been summoned! Black and White are the best games in the series, how dare you say otherwise! Eh, just kidding. Actually Gen 8 has a lot of cool Galarian forms of Gen 5 Pokemon so I liked it.
Ok but i have always been curious about this scene 3:32 and this scene 3:58. Did they acknowledge this fact in the original dub (jpn) or is it just a english dub change thing?
Seeing how much Gamefreak experimented with this gen almost makes me sad. They did so much new stuff, tried to look through the lense of older players, and they got so much backlash for trying to branch out that they just decided to play it safe since then. And as a result, no Pokémon game after BW2 felt nearly as ambitious.
Doesn’t matter, enjoyed the game anyway. Also, 2:00 speaking of story… Am I the only one who thinks that the lore of of Unova, it’s story and some of its side mysteries have this ‘Greco-Roman mythology’-esque feeling? There’s the two heroes, who obviously remind some folk of Romulus and Remus, them being twins who founded a centre of civilization and then fell off… But they do also remind me of the founding myth of Thebes, in which a guy named Cadmus kills a water dragon sacred to Ares (who’s sometimes Ares’s son, weird). He then does eight years of service for Ares and after it’s over, he’s given one of Ares’s two daughters with Aphorodite to be his wife. He then becomes the king of Thebes and then marries the black sheep of AxA family, the goddess of harmony Harmonia. But Hephaestus is salty due to events I assume everyone already knows and he gives his ex-stepdaughter/niece some cursed wedding gifts - always a necklace, sometimes also a robe. The curse these objects carried eventually made Cadmus lose his will to live and he declared that if gods fancied serpents so much, maybe he should become a one. Gods fulfilled his wish and when Harmonia found out, she chose to share his fate. It’s later revealed that she died later on, so yeah - Hephaestus technically guilt-tripped his ex-stepdaughter/niece into committing suicide. BTW, Harmonia’s sister is called Adrestia(can be translated as either “inescapable” or “she who can’t be escaped”), she’s the goddess of revolt and also portrayed as winged quite often. Kinda funny how the goddess of revolt is a beautiful winged lady while the goddess of harmony becomes a dragon. Also did you know that according to some beliefs, Nike is also Ares’s daughter? Weird.
@@madnessarcade7447 yeah. I know the graphics are sorta bad, but I really don't mind. I LOVE the new mons. The starters are great, the legendarys are great, and even the national bird is somewhat useful! (I know, Talonflame is pretty decent, but steel/flying? That's really really good!)
Ash should have won the Sinnoh Cup & become a Champion, opening the way for the Anime to start new with another main character, like what the manga did to Red since Gold & Silver.
I just think the decision to 'scrap' all pokemon from previous gens and only allow you to meet the new gen was great. In the first place because it was getting more and more ridiculous to have to cram in all 400 old pokemon and then place in some new ones as well. In the second place because I personally am interested in new pokemon games for the new pokemons, so give me the new mons and not all the ones I already know. No I didn't like ALL pokemon in B/W. But neither did I in all the other gens, and B/W had a lot more likeable pokemon than D/P/P. Dude them pokemons of gen 5 are so loveable like gen 2.
this statement would've made sense if they made the ones that show up have more personality via better or new animation styles but no, Gamefreak either gave up or got lazy and decided to reuse the same EXACT idle animations and attacks. They even didn't bother to make sure moves and animation makes sense together (the best example being Dubwool performing a Double Kick with a bouncing animation and performing a Headbutt with a kick. Pretty sure there are many other similar situations but this is the one I remember)
@@inoob26 Do you mean to say that improved battle animations would have made the pokemon from gen 5 look good and the dexcut a good idea, but since B/W didn't have better animations gen 5 had no character and the dexcut was an unfun mechanic?
I get so confused when people rage over not having older pokemon in games like it makes sense that different parts of the world would have different pokemon the same way our world has animals that only live in certain places
I can now point to this video whenever one of my friends complain that all of the gen 5 pokemon are just rip offs of gen 1 pokemon. That was the point.
Especially because they weren't literal copy pastes. A lot of the time it was similar but different, with different typings and the like. Writing this out, I realized that they are basically Unovan forms of gen 1 pokemon lol. Regional variations before they were a thing. Plus still other unique stuff.
Black and White are my favorite gens for the sole reason the main roster pokemon were all brand new. It captured the original intrigue and unknown of the first generation, which was my first game as a child. So being able to have that feeling all over again when I was much older was amazing and refreshing.
I don't really like how people uses game mechanics to describe the anime, to say that a level 5 snivy beat Ash'es pikachu who must be atleast level 90, is like saying that you as a person must be level 30 because you finished your education and can't be beaten in a fight by someone uneducated. Now is black and white a soft reboot? In my eyes not really, it's simply another continent with a different flora and fauna. I never really got the hatred for some pokemon for looking like other even if only it's by a different color such as plusle and minun or basculin. Our world is filled with animals that are in the same family with minor differences, and bringing that concept to pokemon is actually something i like since it shows how these creatures adapts to their enviroment in different places, Alola did this aswell (and was better recieved for it) but Unova was the region that truly started to show the diversity of the pokemon world by having pokemon that were similer to older pokemon. Well that's my take on it but i also enjoy nature and evolution to a larger degree than others i suppose.
In my opinion I always felt as though 5th gen should have been the ending point, First generation was the original. Second generation was an extension of the first. Third generation was a whole new experience. And fourth GEN was the Ultimate ending to the story. Fifth generation felt like ending homage to the beginnings. It felt as though the story you have concluded.
Honestly the way they made Gen 5 really got me back into the series. That, and the fact that when gen 4 came out, I didn't get to have a DS for many many years, and no emulator did the job back then, but then during the BW-era my brothers got me the stuff. But as you said, what makes Unova so loved by some is bad in other people's eyes. I personally think... Unova is NEAT!
16:19 just wanted to point out that the way the games are grouped make the sales chart very inaccurate! if you take out ORAS, games that were released FOUR YEARS after bw, dppt were a bounce back from the relatively low sales of r/s/e. gen 3 was their lowest point.
The magical thing about gen 5 for me, even though I played White 2 before White, was that it came at a time when I was getting back into pokemon after not playing for a few years. The soft reboot was fitting as everything was different and I got to see a whole new worls of pokemon that fit the familiar roles. Also imo it has the best plot.
I absolutely love Gen 5! That's why I'm really bothered by the fact that on Gen 6 we did not get a Gen 2 kinda reboot, you know, with a pre evolution for Throh and Sawk and a new evolution for it, for example.
As a gen fiver I never knew what it was like to not have your old favorites coming back since the games I played were mainly the gen 6 games like ORAS or the older ds games like Platinum and HGSS, so whenever I play I expect to have a clean slate when it comes to building a new team.
For me just to get over the fact that ash aged In Johto would just assume this is an almost exact same reality except Team Galactics Plans didn’t fail and they started restarting the universe but started messing up and created an I tore the timeline in pieces and instead of ash aging he went through his first couple journeys quickly but then he his placed back inside regular the regular timeline by Arceus, but he still lost all those years of experience going back to his past and retaining his previous experience level and age and at that time team Galactics plans had failed so he would just continue on where he left off only with less experience and age. But over time he would start regaining his experience that’s why he’s doing so good in the recent series he got boosted experience and as of Pokemon Journeys hes aged 9 months at least because of (spoiler) kukuis child is born sooo he’s aged a bit so hopefully he will regain a steady path soon
As a person whose first main Pokémon game was Pokémon X and Y, I never played the past five games. I have been meaning to play them one day, but for now, they will have to wait. Which means that I dont have much knowledge about the past villains and story in those games. Hearing that they made all these new Pokémon and improved on the story just sounds amazing to me! Knowing that you won't be able to use the same type of from older generations until you completed the main story sounds like a fun challenge. I always try to use different and new Pokémon for every play through, but knowing you have even more options to choose from is just amazing. As a shiny hunter, it sounds even more amazing and I really wish that Game Freak kept doing that.
11:29 I think that can be defined by saying that all those Pokémon were the homologs (Who performs a similar or equivalent function) of previous ones, which leads me to think that it was the origin of the regional variants later on 🤔 But heeeey that's just a th... ok no

@@byronlyons3548 hell i loved black and white, i still think it is better than omega ruby and alpha sapphire

Soft reboot and reboot are the same he wanted no emotions in its dreamed world but there are still emotions. I failed and that's it
Maybe Cyrus' plan did work but the player intervening caused the universe to be reset in a good way rather than the bleak, nothing world Cyrus wanted.

This is how I felt too!
It arrived at the exact right time, and really reignited my passion.
Yeah, technically white 2 was my first pokemon game, not the original black and white, but it definitely still feels like my gen 1. The previous games kinda had the same feel as games that your parents played when they were young. You almost feel like you aren't being you, but someone else
That might not've come out right, but that's the best way I could word it 😂
And years later, many long time fans finally realize that the Gen 5 games were truly some of the best Pokemon games ever made both in gameplay and story.
We were many years too late, we really need to start appreciating change instead of attacking it at first sight
I actually didn't, at the first time i saw gen 5 it instantly became my fav generation

@@JohnSmith-kb4re okay sure
No old pokemon - good, agreed
Designs - Most of all of the designs were good and meant to improve the gen 1 designs, and they did that phenomenally
Deeper Story - yes absolutely. It dealt with problems in the real world instead of just "There are bad guys, let's defeat them and become the champion". It had the most and best character development Pokemon has ever seen
More Interesting Characters, yes.
Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were truly the last games of the "Golden Age" of Pokémon.

it wasn't till gen 7 and 8 that i realized where the hatred came from. I think your very first statement is wrong, they *tried too hard* with it.

I wonder what you think about gen 9's story, is a bit darker for Pokemon standars, yknow, divorce, a child having neglectful parents, someone straight up dying and it not being mentioned until a fake one says it, a child having to say goodbye twice to it's parent even if he couldn't do it in person the first time, and even if later they didnt give him much attention, his parent still loved him
Now that I think about it, all of this is connected to a single character, a tragic character for sure, the other ones is one who made a team to stand up to bullying and then being blamed as the bad guys while the school director didn't give a frick about the bullying and another one who's basically a Pokemon player, became the greatest and nothing is a challenge anymore to the point it's boring and wishes there was a challenge, someone difficult to beat
The protagonist is just there for the ride
Alola only had a regional Dex. (And because of that it's the only game I will likely ever get the shiny charm in.

I think BW 2 are my favorite pokemon games of all times, because it was the first ones, but more, the story is definitelly a bir worse than the first one but a lot of stuff like the bigger map, more modes and the variety of pokemon being included made it really enjoyable
And i still love BW1 but i think it isnt as replayable mainly for the lacking variety of pokemon even if all od them are great
@@ribottostudio oh yeah, i would love a new pokemon only dex of gen 6 with 70 mons. Every trainer could have 6 fletching on the team. Either that or bloat the pokedex with more filler mons than necessary.

The designs have a lot of highs but I feel like there are a lot of low lows
@@M_Alexander I'm with you on that! I also feel like the first games, especially early-on, lack variety.
Tl;dr
Hypothesis: Gen 5 was a _necessary_ experimental gen for a great learning opportunity for GameFreak. After a long time, they may have lost touch with fans and didn't take good notes of criticisms in the beginning.

Unova was definitely a breath of fresh air. I love this generation.
That's why I love the movie.

Me who saw Charizard and literally every past gen pokemon from Ash come back at the end of Unova: *hhhhmmmmmm*
The charizard comeback was cus the audience of the anime going down
Ash's Charizard came back sometime after the Unova Pokémon League.
Lowkey feels like gen 6 was the reboot and gen 5 felt like the finale
Truth
gen 6 very much went back to the basics in a different way. gen 5 felt like a soft reboot of what worked before while gen 6 was appealing to new players gameplay wise.
The jump to 3D really set Gamefreak back. They are just not good at it.
Because it was, that's why the dimensions split in those games. It's so obvious I don't know why he didn't include that.
Especially compared to the subsequent games, that think you need to have a summary of what you just read at the end of any exposition longer than a few text boxes, and the height of their eloquence is god damn _Tierno_ blabbering about dance moves.
Gen 5 is the reason we get mature writing in xy sm and swsh
Tierno dancing is wholesome and whimsical

But when Pokemon knew they only needed a competitive game and good animations... They sorta forgot what they loved in order to gain sweet sweet money, as you can see if you play Sw/Sh, theres no substance or love in the stories or in their map or in their postgame, Is just something you must do in order to unlock all competitive Gameplay... And its just sad :(

That's one of the major reasons LTH exists, showing the crowd they can do more. It didn't work. Can't wait for GF to genuinely get lazy and people will start praising gen 8 and LTH for trying so hard despite those same people previously spamming videos where they import Colosseum middles into sword and shield and act like they're talented.

I can’t lie, Gen 5 Sorta had a reboot feeling...
Weird.

I can now point to this video whenever one of my friends complain that all of the gen 5 pokemon are just rip offs of gen 1 pokemon.
That was the point.
Being a ripoff isn't inherntly a bad thing.
Especially because they weren't literal copy pastes. A lot of the time it was similar but different, with different typings and the like. Writing this out, I realized that they are basically Unovan forms of gen 1 pokemon lol. Regional variations before they were a thing. Plus still other unique stuff.
I think you're right that Pokémon was 'soft rebooted' with Black and White.
As always, wonderful video!
Well that's my take on it but i also enjoy nature and evolution to a larger degree than others i suppose.
interesting
I really wish they did the 'all new pokemon and no previous pokemon' again. It would be so cool.

Pokemon sword and shield no national dex in a nutshell
i think its safe to say we all want an open world pokemon mmorpg
11:29 I think that can be defined by saying that all those Pokémon were the homologs (Who performs a similar or equivalent function) of previous ones, which leads me to think that it was the origin of the regional variants later on 🤔
But heeeey that's just a th... ok no
