Just watched the film. Still not better than part one but it was a great directorial debut from MBJ. Johnathan will go down as one of the great rocky villans. So much so I wanna see a rematch in a part 4
GREAT MOVIE (but could have been EVEN BETTER in my opinion) 1. The scene in the final boxing match where the crowd and referee disappeared and the background turned grey was SYMBOLIC. The literary term is ARTISTIC LICENSE, where things do not look or sound exactly as they would in a scene and SYMBOLISM is used to express emotions and ideas. The disappearance of all of the other people was to show that from their perspective ONLY the other person mattered, they only saw each other. The prison bars Adonis got knocked into represented the years his friend had been locked up and his emotions around that. So as long as ARTISTIC LICENSE was being employed in that surreal scene you know what else might have been cool? If they had both morphed into their TEEN selves from 18 years earlier and the 2 actors who portrayed them as teens were the ones fighting for a minute or so of screen time. To show that their emotional state had regressed to their early lives. Maybe the teen actors were not skilled enough at boxing to have acted out such a scene convincingly? Even to pretend to do a sport in a movie an actor needs a degree of training and maybe the teen actors did not have it yet? Or maybe the script writers did not think of it? 2. I think Damien should have been shown having several more fights where he successfully defended his title, winning with no more than minimal difficulty each time before facing Adonis in the final match. It could have maybe been a montage taking up only a few minutes of screen time much like Clubber Lang's string of victories in Rocky 3. He was only shown having ONE pro fight where he won the title and winning several consecutive title defenses would have helped to show that it was not just a fluke and he was not a "one hit wonder" and was the "real deal". It would have made him seem like even more of a danger and threat to Adonis. It also would have made me happier because I felt very sorry for him and I know that the world heavyweight champion gets several million dollars purse every time they successfully defend their title. 3. I think the final fight did not get enough screen time. I know that they cannot show the entire thing in "real time" as that would be 3 quarters of an hour and with a movie that is only around 2 hours long it would not leave enough time to tell the rest of the story BUT I still would have liked at least a few more minutes of it. It felt a little too brief. 4. A slightly happier ending for Damien. He was such a tragic villain. I felt so sad for him. Maybe something similar to Adrian in Rocky 1 where it turns out that the girlfriend he had in his home with him when he saw Adonis on TV was NOT just a gold digger tramp like she seemed and really did love him, maybe she runs up to him and gives him a big hug and kiss and tells him how proud of him she is or something. I left the theater very sad. I hope the character gets some kind of spinoff movie where he gets to be the protagonist.
I'd love a follow up with Clubber Lang at some point. Have his path be the opposite of Drago's learning humility and growth vs anger and regret at his Rocky defeat. It'd be a positive message and true to Clubber's arc
I know it's off track but I wish they would have followed up on Clubber Lang. The dude was brutish and crude, but he was absolutlely right about Rocky and the bums he was fighting. Shows how dim Rocky was not understanding that he was fighting hand picked bums and not actual contenders.
I would say that the fights were where MBJ's direction was the strongest. You could always follow the action, and he visualized each fighter's different style. The last fight in particular, had interesting storytelling in just the choreography. You can see the skill and power difference between the two, and it's the only fight where Dame doesn't resort to cheating.
The best villain of the Rocky franchise imo is Clubber Lang. He was the only to beat Rocky badly, he destroyed him, humiliated him to the point that he had nightmares about him. Apollo had to save him after what Clubber did to him, not to mention he technically killed Mickey by pushing him and causing him to have a heart attack. Clubber was full of personality, Drago was basically the opposite
Jake... jake.. jake.. talk your motherfucking shit my guy. This times 10. Clubber had me shook. " what you looking at creed? " better take that look off your face, before I knock it off"
I believe the reason this movie is good because it is actually the 1st Rocky/Creed movie that actually dives into not just Adonis but the person he has too face. Creed 2 tried to do it with Drago and his family dynamic but they didn’t truly dive in. It’s like a Adonis/Damien movie rather then just a Creed movie.
@@PokerNLSofa the deleted locker room scene in Creed 2 is redone in this 3rd movie with Dame. The conversation is different, but it’s good to see the fighters interact afterwards. Glad they recognized it was a good idea for a scene
I rewatched the first two because my boyfriend hadn’t seen them and didn’t understand why I was so hype for this one. And then saw the last one and I can safely say I haven’t enjoyed a hero’s journey as much as this since infinity and endgame. Despite each movie being directed by a different director you can see by the fact that everyone was still on the same team how coherent everything was. I’m a girl not saying that means anything specifically but I grew up on Rocky and seeing Creed continue to legacy was just so beautiful. MBJ killed it as a director that scene where it was them just fighting and no one else in the world. Gorgeous
Michael B Jordan is a huge Naruto fan. The boxing scene where they show he and Damian as children is taken directly from when Kakashi faught Obito in the war.
I would love to see the spill crew review Last Black Man in San Francisco since it's one of those early Jonathan Majors roles that contrasts his most recent performances so much.
i think about that movie a lot, so good, one of my favorites in the last ten years. jonathan majors was incredible in it, maybe different from these last couple of roles he has done but the same level of intensity in throwing himself into said role is felt. he deserves all the accolades he is getting now.
I have put a lot of thought into this since Creed II. I would love for there to a future movie where Amara is early in her boxing career. But also Rocky's grandson is wanting to pursue boxing but he has a conflict with his father because his dad doesn't entirely support his path. So he seeks out Adonis to train him.
When I saw Kang in Lovecraft Country, I knew he was on his way to superstardom. After the only season of LCC, I knew he would be to be big to be held to TV series ( I love LoveCraft Country, still pissed they canceled it). Can't wait to see this..
Not having seen the movie yet (priority one for the weekend), Damian has complexity because he's linked to Adonis. Clubber Lang was presented as a hungry, brutal contender for a Rocky Balboa who had become soft due to his time as champion.
Why does DT feel like evey movie is supposed to be a puzzle with a big twist that no one should be able to predict??? I know exactly what to expect from this movie and it won't affect my enjoyment.
Martin at least acknowledged that at the end of the day this was a sports movie... specifically a boxing movie... specifically a "Rocky" movie, which ALL follow a formula. I mean let's face it. If you go into a "Rocky" movie (or in this case a "Rocky"-adjacent) movie, the one thing you'll NEVER use to describe the film is "unpredictable". We all know how these flicks go, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Great Review! All fighters understand that bigger size is and can actually be a hindrance in a 12 round championship bout. Look up Gervonta "Tank" Davis ( 5' 5") VS. Mario Barrios (5'10")🥊🏆
Damien signifies envy, jealousy, misplaced anger, and failure to accept responsibility for his own choices. Adonis signifies loyalty to a fault and survivor's guilt.
I'd love a Devil In A Blue Dress TV show starring Michael B Jordan in Denzel's Easy Rawlins role and directing the pilot (at least). Easy is such a cool bad ass character who needs more adventures and Michael would be amazing as him IMO
Only thing about Rocky not being in this is that he was a huge part of Adonis life in C1 and C2. You can't just suddenly act like that all didn't happen without explanation.
Well, after watching the movie. It's three years after Adonis' retirement fr boxing. He lives in LA. Rocky's in Philly. But yeah a quick phone call to Rocky (even if no Sylvester Stallone on the other end of the call). Just a leave a message to a voicemail. That would've been okay. Honestly, I didn't miss Rocky in this. It's about Creed's past. Plus, his family. **SPOILERS**... ... ... ...of course, a main character would die. Its like Rocky 3 when Mick died.
If you’re not rooting for Damien by the end of the movie, I question your ethics 😂. I really liked the movie but I feel like the weakest point is trying to paint Damien as a villain that was “out to get everything Creed had”. I really don’t this Adonis had legit motivation to fight him at the end
Yesterday was the Movie Review Extravaganza, so Billy didn't come in. Roast and Toast will be some other time this week I assume, unless they just cancelled it for the week.
Movies nowadays seem to be more fast paced. Basically saying, it doesn’t come off as organic as movies of the past. Even sports movies. Creed 3 was ok, but it seemed rush. I will just say this…. You can never rush greatness. Movies nowadays don’t seem to get the details right.
The movie is solid, but their critiques are spot on. The CGI in the final fight almost took me out of it because of how obvious it was to make the crowd look big, and then they do THAT THING and I almost laughed. The plot points can be seen from space. They don’t tell you what TF Rocky is up to, and considering what happens in this movie, there’s no way he doesn’t call Rocky once. Having said that, I still had a good time and MBJ did a good job acting and directing. His relationship with his daughter in this movie is genuinely sweet and touching.
I started watching it and had to leave for a family emergency but I hope the mom didn’t die. But he reminds me of my daughter and I. She has austism and loves princess and the frog. When I go near her she wants to be picked up and wants me to lay my head on her stomach. She doesn’t talk much
Basically how I feel about the film. I know the DT crew feels this is better than #2. I think this one is the weakest of the three but that doesn’t mean I think it’s a bad movie. The absence of Rocky is bizarre. I think just a mention or something would help. He’s not dead so the fact that he’s just ignored totally is strange. The “title shot” happened way too fast and Jonathan Majors skill set increased by 1000 too fast. I’m sorry but being older and I’m prison for 18 years matters in boxing. The family dynamic is really amazing to see though. Told really well.
😂 thats literally the DragonballZ shot he did, when he got punched and you see the impact fallow through his back😂😂😂…his inspiration of DBZ is peppered all throughout the film lol
Just got out of the theater, it was a solid movie. The story development and Dame's character did feel a bit rushed though, and I wasn't a fan of some of the dialogue from Jordan and his dynamic with Bianca. There were a few other flaws but overall a good plot and decent writing. The choreography was just above mediocre but still executed nicely, it really kept you intrigued. And yes, I also grew up on DBZ since the 90s abd definitely noticed that reference, for those curious, it takes a page from a certain fight from the Buu saga. Overall a good movie, I just wish Carl Weathers was in it but I'd go see it again.
You guys are lunching. That was a great directorial debut. The fights s scenes were fresh. We've seen so many fight scenes before. This was actually something different. The story was good and the acting was great on all accounts. Wood Harris was great too.

Personally I felt this movie was good but the worse of the series. The acting was great and the story with the family and the backstory was great. However, the execution left much to be desired for me. The way Johnathan Majors got a title shot was hilarious and moved too quick. The absence of Rocky was very much felt. Also no mention of him is ridiculous. Damion felt menacing for a bit but something about the execution left me feeling like the movie was good but not great.
Well Rocky Had The Best Send Off In Creed 2. But Rocky Could've Atleast Attended The Funeral Of His Friends Wife(Apollo). I Did Feel Like Dame Got A Title Shot How WWE Books WrestleMania Matches 😭💯
Do understand that the reason why Damien felt like he had more depth than Clubber Lang is because Creed lll is about the past. Rocky III is about Rocky losing the eye of the tiger and him getting it back. Realize that trying to stick a backstory about Clubber Lang in the film what have felt forced and would have made the movie extra long.
Rocky didn’t die off. As long as Henry Winkler doesn’t have any involvement with Creed 4, Stallone said that he would be open to come back to the Creed movie series
It’s insane to me how a ninth film in a series of pretty predictable movies could even make my sister love it, even when she has seen none of the Rocky or Creed movies.
Just saw the movie yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had to cone back to this video and say that how Dame gets the title shot is more pro wrestling than boxing. It was the bounty being put on Goldberg's head by HHH in 03/04.
I always wondered how they were going to pull off filming a boxing/sports movie again post Covid with full arenas of spectators. It must've been really challenging as pulling off the fights in the movie itself.
This was a drama and sports movie. It was cool to see both Dame at the top after just one fight and Donnie regain his P4P status, but the twist and fight that we should have seen in Creed 3 is Dame vs Drago trained by Donnie.
Clubber was hungry and was everything Rocky forgot. Mickey knew that which is why he protected Rock. Crazy thing was Clubber was such a power boxer that he winded early and lost the strategy game against Rock in match 2
This movie was phenomenal! B Jordan did his thing as a first time director. All the acting was so far above board it was almost too good for a Boxing movie. I only have one gripe. The movie played it too safe. Dame should have won at the end. Then the next movie would have had Creed struggle to get back what he lost. To me that was a better set up, but loved it overall.
Leave it to a boxing movie to pull out the best review from my dude who's usually down on everything then gives it a rental/matine lol. He always gave off the everyman review in that he never got to deep into why he liked or disliked a movie. Kinda swayed from one good or bad scene to liking or disliking it. Surprised, he actually goes in depth this time. I guess he just needed a movie that interested him. Much like, some women on the show kinda zone out (action) when they discuss some films and are excited about others (comedy).
I was watching y'all twitch it don't matter what you eat as long as you workin out if anything you want more carbs to build those muscles they gotta eat
I can't wait to see this movie. From MBJ anime influence on this, and seeong what Majors got the inspiration from for portraying Damien. He said he got it from his step dad whose a ex convict.
The first double toasted show I ever watched was there review of Creed 2 & since I love the Rocky/Creed series i was kinda mad but was surprised i kept coming back for other things. This review of part 3 makes up for that blunder
18 years is a long time just to get caught with a gun. There must have been some message behind that or he did something else. My ex girlfriend had multiple priors of petty theft, and multiple possession of cocaine charges, aggravated assault, and then went on to shoot someone and stabbed someone else, and she only spent 2 years in prison.

I left the theater very sad. I hope the character gets some kind of spinoff movie where he gets to be the protagonist.
Those are still good ideas to add to future sequels.
That punch in the opening was definitely anime inspired.
It’s from DBZ Freiza Vs Goku on planet Namik
I'd love a follow up with Clubber Lang at some point. Have his path be the opposite of Drago's learning humility and growth vs anger and regret at his Rocky defeat. It'd be a positive message and true to Clubber's arc
Mr.T was supposed to cameo in one of the 1st 2 films but his health is too poor for the harsh long filming schedules. He's fighting Cancer
I know it's off track but I wish they would have followed up on Clubber Lang. The dude was brutish and crude, but he was absolutlely right about Rocky and the bums he was fighting. Shows how dim Rocky was not understanding that he was fighting hand picked bums and not actual contenders.
Clubber Lang should've mellowed out after getting into weed and pidgeon keeping. He now has a podcast called "Hotboxing with Clubber Lang".
I saw the movie tonight and thought it was really good. Jonathan Majors did a great job playing the villain here.
Absolutely!!! He is the only one that broke Rocky mentally
Jake... jake.. jake.. talk your motherfucking shit my guy. This times 10. Clubber had me shook. " what you looking at creed? " better take that look off your face, before I knock it off"
@TJ of Wakanda "Apollo WHO? You talkin bout that old fool Apollo Creed?"
Drago kill Apolo creed
@@richardcruz2803 That doesn't automatically make him a better villain
Yea they stuck to the Rocky formula and to me that’s a good thing. So the story shines a bit because of the characters. In my opinion that worked.
They cut a lot of the heart out of Creed 2, going by the deleted scenes that show up online.
Good for you.... push past all assumptions and pre judged ideas of what you can and cannot do... keep on keeping on!!
@@PokerNLSofa the deleted locker room scene in Creed 2 is redone in this 3rd movie with Dame. The conversation is different, but it’s good to see the fighters interact afterwards. Glad they recognized it was a good idea for a scene
So you haven’t seen the original Rocky or Rocky 2 then I take it.
Johnathan Majors is giving Tyson vibes!
The funniest part was when Martin looked at the camera an said rocky dead lmao 😂😂😂😂start at 12:50 😂😂😂
I would love to see the spill crew review Last Black Man in San Francisco since it's one of those early Jonathan Majors roles that contrasts his most recent performances so much.
i think about that movie a lot, so good, one of my favorites in the last ten years. jonathan majors was incredible in it, maybe different from these last couple of roles he has done but the same level of intensity in throwing himself into said role is felt. he deserves all the accolades he is getting now.
Fight scenes are very difficult to direct and edit even Cooglar falls short at times with his direction of fight scenes
This movie gives me hope Creed series goes longer than the Rocky series. They could even do old Adonis Creed movies with him training his daughter
He was fantastic in that show
He has a name 😐
Same experience. He just cannot be contained lol. And he even took it further by playing such a menacing villain in Creed 3. What a fucking star
This movie was 🔥🔥🔥. So much chemistry all around.
Not having seen the movie yet (priority one for the weekend), Damian has complexity because he's linked to Adonis. Clubber Lang was presented as a hungry, brutal contender for a Rocky Balboa who had become soft due to his time as champion.
"They trained in a day."
So, like in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber?
Interestingly, Creed II was written by Sly Stallone. Maybe that is why the storyline felt different from Creed I.
I thought it was dope that Michael added the DBZ gut punch in the movie.
Great Review! All fighters understand that bigger size is and can actually be a hindrance in a 12 round championship bout. Look up Gervonta "Tank" Davis ( 5' 5") VS. Mario Barrios (5'10")🥊🏆
Rocky didn't die, he was just sick.
Rocky’s absence was felt but this movie was still incredible the creed movies continue to thrive with each entry.
Well once you understand that Michael B Jordan took a lot of inspiration from anime when he was constructing the fight sequences
I come for Corey's ad transitions 🤣🤣🤣
And everyone else's reaction when he does them 😂😂
Damien signifies envy, jealousy, misplaced anger, and failure to accept responsibility for his own choices.
Adonis signifies loyalty to a fault and survivor's guilt.
But in the end **SPOILERS**...
...
...
...
...
...they both made peace with it. Bros before..inner-demons. Lol
I'd love a Devil In A Blue Dress TV show starring Michael B Jordan in Denzel's Easy Rawlins role and directing the pilot (at least). Easy is such a cool bad ass character who needs more adventures and Michael would be amazing as him IMO
Yes! That would be so cool.
I definitely can see MBJ in that role!
I really hate when they try to spin up old movies into TV shows .... But this is a great idea 💡
Hell yea
@@klass_1221 Agreed... exactly. A quick reference thrown in somewhere would've been enough.
I Thought It Was Wrong No Rocky At The Funeral? 😢💯
They rapped rocky up nicely in the 2nd movie where he went back to his son
Drago wasn't a villain. He was the antagonist. There's a difference.
If you’re not rooting for Damien by the end of the movie, I question your ethics 😂. I really liked the movie but I feel like the weakest point is trying to paint Damien as a villain that was “out to get everything Creed had”. I really don’t this Adonis had legit motivation to fight him at the end
I can see the anime influence in some of MBJ’s directing. Especially boxing anime.
Where’s Billy? It’s not the same without his laughter 😂
Yesterday was the Movie Review Extravaganza, so Billy didn't come in. Roast and Toast will be some other time this week I assume, unless they just cancelled it for the week.
Jonathan Majors is a really great actor.
Mr T was the goat of rocky movie villans
Damn that joke about majors beating his date aged well😂
Y’all had no idea how prophetic you were being about Majors
Right that “beat the shit outta you date” line. 😮
See marvel, that's how you introduce a villain
😂 thats literally the DragonballZ shot he did, when he got punched and you see the impact fallow through his back😂😂😂…his inspiration of DBZ is peppered all throughout the film lol
I know the fight is anime inspired but I also got Fight Night vibes with them keying in on windows n angles they can attack from. A true boxing movie.
Creed spoke of Maryann's other kids.... and it was about time they were spoke of.
That was the perfect moment to have the Piccolo Vs 17 moment lol
Iykyk
Some people in this comment section are discovering that actors can play different characters for the first time.
It's like kids finding out about Santa. Had to happen eventually.
You guys are lunching. That was a great directorial debut. The fights s scenes were fresh. We've seen so many fight scenes before. This was actually something different. The story was good and the acting was great on all accounts. Wood Harris was great too.
A lot of the training and fight scenes were inspired by anime training/fight scenes (Naruto and DBZ).
All these MCU characters Killmonger, Valkyrie, and Kang the Conquerer.
Razorfist too.
@K. Delpino I didn't realize it between Creed 2 and Shang Chi,but when i saw 3 earlier this week,i was like, "HOLY SHT!!MORE MCU CHARACTERS!!".I love it because i always mess with my brother-in-law about how much he looks like him!🤣

Great movie. Jonathan Majors is taking over. Music ranged from good, but then it started using what seemed like music from Madden NFL 😅
He definitely had Clubber Lang trops BUT he had Tommy Gunn trops too. I don't know why no one brought it up.
Back when the first trailer dropped, I heard more people bring up Tommy Gunn in regards to Damian.
It kinda stayed right there.
I really wish I could see more of Jonathan Majors in the future, this guy is great.
Even as someone that enjoys anime, I actually enjoy the fight choreography of the previous films more personally, still really liked this tho.
5:39
Y'all must be psychic or something.
Martin is always try to kill somebody 😂😂😂😂😂
Just saw the movie yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had to cone back to this video and say that how Dame gets the title shot is more pro wrestling than boxing. It was the bounty being put on Goldberg's head by HHH in 03/04.
Remember Booker T During The Invasion Angle Summer 2001? Rock vs. Booker T This Movie Felt Like 😭💯
@@J2WICESOLIDMOVEMENT absolutely!
I was also reminded of HBK's comeback and the least up to said comeback in 2002
I always wondered how they were going to pull off filming a boxing/sports movie again post Covid with full arenas of spectators. It must've been really challenging as pulling off the fights in the movie itself.
It looked bad.. U could tell those was cgi ppl in that stadium
Heh, the anime trope of striking so hard that his hand/foot shows through the other side.
Sweat does spray like that after a particulary strong punch. Look up Kamaru Usman's KO on Jorge Masvidal if you don't believe me.
The man is out there fighting trees. Sound life advice don’t fight someone who thinks a tree is mad at him lol
This was a drama and sports movie. It was cool to see both Dame at the top after just one fight and Donnie regain his P4P status, but the twist and fight that we should have seen in Creed 3 is Dame vs Drago trained by Donnie.
Man, they had Creed taking anime damage
It’s intentional, Michael B. Jordan is a huge anime fan and took inspiration from it for the fight sequences here.
Same thing with clubber Lang I always felt bad for him.
Clubber was hungry and was everything Rocky forgot. Mickey knew that which is why he protected Rock. Crazy thing was Clubber was such a power boxer that he winded early and lost the strategy game against Rock in match 2
Creed 1 is just a remake of Rocky but with Creed which is fine as for the second it was just another typical sequel.
With boxing, you don't have to be the strongest. Mayweather defeated stronger opponents.
Clubber Lang threw some Teddy Pendergrass on Adrianne.
Not every movie has to have a complicated plot it was just a good movie to sit down and watch. LOVED IT!
Anderson/ Major's had that prison mentality in Creed 3. You got caught and I don't O you is Creed.
Clubber Lang was a beast though !! He definitely had a chip on his shoulder.
Apollo Creed had 2 other kids from his marriage (Rocky 2)where are they ...and why they never talked to Adonis
They mentioned them in the first movie iirc.
They weren’t even at they moms passing?
@@DraftPickieo 😅spoiler.....I didnt see the 3rd Creed...but I heard on a podcast she died....Ryan Coogler forgot to a add that in the storyline😅
The first double toasted show I ever watched was there review of Creed 2 & since I love the Rocky/Creed series i was kinda mad but was surprised i kept coming back for other things. This review of part 3 makes up for that blunder
That's a straight up boxing-anime gut punch.
They said he had prior convictions, we just don't know what they were
