I love the villain motivation. He took the fall and did prison time for saving his boy from getting whooped on, over a fight that Adonis started himself. See’s the bro he kept from jail live the life he was working towards. And Adonis never checked up on him. So you sacrifice your life and future for a brother who is living your dream and won’t check up on you? That’s not great motivation? Come on man that’s raw. I do agree I wanted a lil more from the training montage. I wanted a late night car drive post funeral.

Yeah, sure. And if it was just that, then it would have worked. But, then dude sets up the attack on the other boxer. Then he continues to trash on Creed even after he's already won the fight.
The motivation was great for a personal conflict. But the writing ratchets the conflict up to "villain" levels.
Just look at Tom Hardy's Warrior. Great antagonist without needing to resort to villilainy tropes.

While Dame was a little over the top, spending 18 years in prison for trying to protect (basically) your brother who ran away and didn't even try to help or defend or visit or write to you, I think that motivation is justified, at least for a boxing movie. I never thought Damien was cartoonishly bad. The worst thing he did was have someone attack the opponent so he could get a title shot. Definitely a bad thing to do but it was the only way he would get a shot. Also I don’t think he’d get in any trouble legally for hiring the guy unless he stupidly organized it over the phone or left a money trail (or the hitman snitches). The guy just has to say he did it on his own and there’s no case against Damien.

For those unaware. Stallone was not apart of this because the original IP was snagged from him. Hes upset and doesnt want to support anythign related to Rocky. This was news in 2022
After years of silence, Sylvester Stallone has recently voiced his discontent regarding his lack of ownership in the “Rocky” franchise by throwing punches at producer Irwin Winkler, but why doesn’t the star have any ownership of the series he created?
After revealing his frustration regarding his lack of stake in the franchise to Variety in 2019, in which he said he has “zero ownership of ‘Rocky,'” Stallone expressed his anger toward Winkler through several Instagram posts that condemn him as “remarkably untalented and parasitical.”
In July, Stallone blamed Winkler for withholding ownership of the franchise and called for a “fair gesture” from the “Rocky” producer, saying, “I really would like to have at least a little [of] WHAT’S LEFT of my rights back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN.”

As usual, I’ve watched a completely different movie/tv show than the guy in the middle saw. What was cartoonish about Jonathan Majors’ character? He wasn’t a mustache twirling bad guy. He was driven by a legitimate personal gripe wherein the trajectory of his life tragically turned because of defending Creed’s character. He had a singular issue. He didn’t want to destroy the world or all cops. His viewpoint was relatable. He was charming and a human being to Creed’s wife and kid. He wasn’t plotting to throw them into a vat of acid. I have absolutely no idea how Majors’ character could not be seen as someone human, hurt, and angry.

Dame was a good antagonist but I feel we should have seen his life in prison. A montage of him getting into fights working on his body explaining how he got as big as he got. Sylvestor not being involved was a huge blow to this movie. A lot of scenes in the movie are really hard to believe that rocky wouldn't be there. And he wasn't mentioned in the movie at all with the exception when they mentioned the first fight between Apollo and rocky.

      1. No montage of Dame working his way up to a title shot or monage of dominating the sport after the title
      2. The last fight was short and the shortest fight of the entire franchise (maybe outside Rocky V)
      3. Felix wasn't intimidating at all
      4. Non of the substories were fully developed to where we really cared about the characters
      5. During the last fight, they were making goofy sound effects like animals instead of good old fashion trash talking
      6. You don't get to see development of Dame go from rags to riches but...POOF! He wins a title and gets a new house instantly.

I love AJS but recently it's getting harder to watch these movie reviews specifically because it seems like ever since Alex came in the picture they just nitpick the fuck out of every movie. I feel like that kind of criticism works when you review games, but idk it just seems like they look for anything to criticize the movie for. Saying Dame turned into a villain out of nowhere is a really bad take. Especially when u consider that Dame told Creed once he got what he wanted, he didn't need creed anymore. I mean they bring up side plots that go nowhere bringing up Biancas music career and how it wasn't fleshed out enough but I have the feeling if they did flesh it out more they would've been complaining about it. The side plot with the mom I admit felt kindof rushed but I feel like it did what it need to do which was give me the feels but I understand how some ppl couldn't relate so thats fine. But all in all I understand reviewing films is their job, but sometimes idk I feel like they take it a bit too seriously. I think its kindof unfair im a sense to compare this movie to past movies in the franchise and base your overall score off that. I'm not familiar too familiar with the rocky franchise so I just take this film at face value, so in my opinion this film is a 9. I'm not even a MBJ fan like that but he pleasantly surprised me with this one, especially after I found out he was the director. Now I'm looking forward to any future projects and im very interested to see more Creed.

This movie was terrible for so many reasons. Damian was not built into a compelling villain. He had potential but it was not realistic leaning so heavily on his amateur record from two decades ago to build the case for him. He needed to have a run as a pro to really build him up before the fight with Adonis. Also that fight itself was a joke, comical the way they presented them as two children throwing a tantrum and skipping from the early rounds to round 11. It destroyed the build up of drama in the fight. There was very little back and forth in that fight before the conclusion.

The first creed was miles better than II and III

I rewatched the Creed films before seeing this one, and Creed Ⅱ was definitely better than Creed Ⅲ. So much more happens. Plus, Rocky was actually in it. And we get the classic theme song at the end. And the first Creed, is way better than you guys remember. Ryan Coogler kills those long shot one-takes. That very first professional fight, will eventually be shown in film classes. So I would put Creed above Rocky Ⅲ, and Creed Ⅱ above Creed Ⅲ. Maybe even move Rocky Balboa up in there somewhere. It has been awhile since I've seen it, but for what it was, it coulda been a disaster. Bringing back and old franchise like that, coulda been so much worse. But I really remember not liking Rocky Ⅲ or Ⅴ. I think my list would be:
    Rocky
    Rocky Ⅱ
    Creed
    Rocky Ⅳ
    Creed Ⅱ
    Rocky Balboa
    Creed Ⅲ
    Rocky Ⅲ
    Rocky Ⅴ

Bro if you have Rocky Balboa on the list at all I don’t trust your opinion. Or rocky 4 for that matter, only 20 minutes of the movie was worth seeing

So this was my first ‘Rocky’ movie ever but I’ve seen some clips over the years (just never got into it.Just went yesterday because I was invited). I liked it, it was fun. The boxing almost had a kung fu vibe to it at times and I guess people taking repeated wild haymakers to the face is very much in keeping with the franchise spirit. Maybe all the movies are like this but the conflict seemed kinda low stakes idk. Some parts were kinda campy, like giving dame a full on title fight instead of an exhibition lol. Or going to jail for 18 years for brandishing a weapon in what could’ve been argued as self defense (probably got a public defender 😂). Also it did feel kinda rushed with a nice cheesy ending. It gave me 90s sports movie vibes but like I said I enjoyed it. I’ve heard the others are better though so I’ll check them out. 7/10

These guys lose a little good faith with every review. I can’t take them seriously anymore because half the criticisms they make would be erased if they just paid attention. I get it’s the “angry Joe show” but the negativity feels forced when it doesn’t even sound like they watched closely

Exactly these dudes smoked everything known to mankind before going to see this movie, what a complete joke of a review
That music and those fighting scenes is enough for me to give it a 10/10 the story and the twist was really good on top of that so yeah

@@DARKK_DC I would kind of have to agree.
My only complaint is that I wished they would've brought back Meek Mill to do the soundtrack for this film.
