      I like how there are a few actual firearms in the game, stuff like the pulse rifle and seeker rifle. Security forces would obviously still be armed, and those weapons would still be around. Then you have the whole arsenal of repurposed tools. Plasma cutter is obviously the favorite, but you have ore cutters, mining detonators, saws, torches, directed energy beams, even a fucking spike launcher that's supposed to shove beacons into rock or some shit like that. So while the Flamethrower is dead space 1 is ass, in dead space 2 it is *literally* one of the best weapons. You kill enhanced necromorphs in 10-15 flame when it’s upgraded becoming the most ammo efficient weapon in the game.

    • @BreakdancePeach
      @BreakdancePeach 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah you literally just keep spraying them w/ 1 or 2 tiny puffs, and they take damage-over-time while stunned. They unstun then you repeat ad infinitum.
      But it leads to weird situations like being completely surrounded by necros but you just spritz each of them, one at a time, to keep them at bay til they keel over. ComPLETEly different from how all the other guns play.
      EDIT: I just remembered that I once did a personal challenge run of DS2, on Zealot (hardest diff) flamethrower-only & no upgrades/workbench/store. I genuinely thought it was going to be awful, like the worst thing in the world, but it was honestly fine. DS2's flamethrower is actually REALLY good.

    Ya know, it's rare to get a game that has a perfect weapon but dead space has 2. The plasma cutter is probably my second favorite gun of all time. It feels so good to use and it immediately teaches you the mechanics of the game with swapping from vertical and horizontal.
    My favorite gun is the ripper. Wearing headphones, the sound design on that thing is so satisfying. I loved going in close and ripping enemies apart. I also like how loud the weapon is to the point that it overpowers the sounds of enemies around you. It might sound weird to have a negative be a plus but it adds depth to the weapon.

    It's never outright stated why the tools are so easily made into weapons but humanity is just kinda coming out of an era of incredibly competitive resource acquisition that was probably super violent at points.
    My assumption for the "Tools" easily doubling as easy to use weapons was that they were specifically made that way because corporations often probably had to "deal" with other rival corporations coming near their claims.
    There are implied mentions of violence like this happening in the past somewhere in the series, between the violence and the actual need to quickly obtain resources from a location I always assumed it gave birth to the weird weapon/tools that Dead Space primarily uses.
    This isn't even exclusive to mining equipment though, Plasma tech is incredibly common, in fact in DS2 Isaac isn't using a mining cutter, he's using a modified surgical tool.
