Actually I put this on as I was clearing up stuff from a room I’ll be moving out of next October. I was getting stuff done, but I kept on thinking “You’re late on schedule and you’re procrastinating.” Does this count?
I'd say a world where we could remove all unnecessary traumas as parents guardians and peers. Then I think we'd see all sorts of benefits with one of them being no more unhealthy levels of procrastination
I'm not sure if it would be for this to happen or a byproduct but I think we need a big culture shift in terms of western winning and success culture and capitalist/financial based value system because it doesn't promote time to teach and learn each child as an individual but rather traumatically forces them into cookie cutter shapes which they might not quite fit but it forces them to put on a mask and go do the world proud without any regard for them and who they are. Most of us seem to only be figuring out who we are closer to 40...
I will definitely use the calming technique here, I have always speculated but am not sure if procrastination is the symptom of a bigger problem in life.
Elyssa is phenomenal. I can truly relate with procrastinating. It was a coping mechanism that I’ve embraced. Thank you Elyssa for this most helpful and inspiring talk.
I’m definitely going to use this advice. I find myself struggling to start working on a very large project at work. I can definitely see the correlation between procrastination and a related trauma of mine.
I watched this presentation at the TedX event. I'm glad it's on TH-cam now so I could watch it again, but also so I can share it with friends. If you watched this because I shared it with you, reply and let me know what you think.
Wow! What a groundbreaking subject. I’m excited to see more on this topic especially as scientists continue to uncover the capabilities of the brain. The possibilities are endless.
This was so powerful. I'm literally sat here crying at all the times I've been in flight mode and haven't been able to manage anything at all. So grateful for this talk today ❤

I tend to procrastinating because I was usually doing good in my early year, but now as I get older I don't get the result as I've always receive. So I'm always afraid to start doing my tasks because my work gonna be not good enough.

Had me hooked from the start, such an entertaining, insightful and impactful talk. This is how useful information needs to be delivered! Thanks for sharing :)
I think I really needed this… Every day I find myself doing anything I can instead of my school work (I’m in gr10) whether it be social media to just walking around my room to even thinking of all the excuses to get more time to work.. and when I get more time I procrastinate that!! I feel like I’m wasting my time all my life and that there’s always someone better than me that I’ll never be so why should I bother to even try ? Maybe that’s my tinyT?? I hope one day I’ll make it out of this prison I’ve put myself in
This is so eye opening! Thank you so much for sharing this! It makes so much sense and is such a logical perspective. The more tools we have the better we can all be.
This is was a great talk and I am saving this so I can use the strategy later. I’ve recently adopted a policy of doing the thing I want to do the least, first in the day and that is working greatly so far. I am also trying to respect my mood to some degree by doing the physical tasks when I feel strong and the mental tasks when I feel most alert and creative. I’m a work in progress but your calming exercise will be used regularly for sure. Thank you
cant believe this talk get flaged, Maybe the speaker are a bit naive about the depth and complex nature of procrastination. But mistake is what it make growth, just like my journey to combat procrastination
