  • For today's review, I had the pleasure of sitting behind the wheel of a 1984 Porsche 944. This vehicle is incredibly interesting from a historical perspective as it quickly became loved by enthusiasts and motorsport fans alike. Porsche produced over 160,000 units of the 944 throughout its lifespan globally, thereby bringing market values of these cars down to an extremely affordable price point. Does the 944 live up to the renowned vintage prestige of a classic 911 or other European vehicles from this era? All of that is discussed in today's review. Thank you for watching. I inherited a 1983 5spd 944 from my father-in-law, and it’s a kick. It’s not fast, it’s got no power steering and it’s only got 150hp, but I’ve invested a few thousand into major service and I’ve personally fixed a few more items myself, and it drives like new!! This car is a fun adventure every time I drive it. Very fun!

I have owned my 944 since new! It is a great car that has never let me down on the road nor in Driver's Education events. It is a car that is really easy to drive fast. I have owned 911s as well as this car and at the DE events I am able to get more out of my 944 that I can the 911. This car has just the right amount of power (for me) and the balance is excellent. I would rather drive this car at 100% on the track than my 911 at 75%. I plan on keeping my 944 for a long time.

50/50 is one thing for traction, but also once the car starts to slide or spin, its yaw rate is relatively slow given the larger polar moment of inertia (resistance to rotation), and steering response is dampened. The car will inspire so much confidence that drivers often will go too fast in a turn and rather than spin out they just go off the track which is funny but also dangerous lol

Those seats are missing some adjustments common in later cars for the leg support. 924/44/68s are actually really good for tall people; above 6'5" (195) the seat might only interfere with the rear seat when folded down, otherwise if you're 7 foot you could go to sleep. I like a reclined driver position

Not very WISE to do burnouts. Clutch should be treated better.
Rear suspension is TORSION BAR, not springs.
My seats are Very low. Im 6'2" tall and i have 4 or 5 inches of extra headroom.
    Peak HP is 5800 rpm
And the gearing is SHORT. Not long. My Cayman is wayyyy longer

yup low ones starts at 10k to 14k which are 1984 to 1985 models 944 but if u get 944s version with 190 horse power those goes for 20k above and if turbo version 25k to 34k above but remember all depends on how clean the car is.
