Thank you for acknowledging the Adult Wound Hyperfascination Phenomenon because no one else gets it. I nearly cut off like, a third of my index finger about a month ago, didn’t go to the hospital for it, and obsessively tended to and monitored the healing process myself. It’s so interesting and fun. We are NOT crazy we are merely appreciators of science and nature.
I took 8 years to finish my undergraduate. I spent 6 whole years in a program I hated before transferring faculties to a program that was actually right for me. I went from super high achieving scholar to face planting HARD in university and it came with such shame and judgement and frustration but eventually I (mostly) got through that and settled on being proud of myself for seeing things through and getting a degree, for choosing myself and my happiness in the end when I did finally transfer, and it gave me a chance to help other people and to learn who was really worth keeping in my life.

It was really hard to see my friends move on from school and get jobs and have free time, I felt so stuck. I'm two years out now and it really does get better outside of school. Thank you guys

I needed it to do the job I want to do, have since got, and love very much. But actual grad school? I’ve been through four extremely stressful situations that not everyone goes through: 1) my parents divorce, 2) my grandparents’ illness with dementia, 3) marrying my husband, and 4) grad school. Grad school fits in with them very well and I couldn’t rank them or their difficulty except to say that I got something I needed from grad school at least.
