It would be nice and easy to have three people to hang a gate. Somehow I manage to do it by myself and with an old fashioned auger hand drill no less. I would use wire form the top of the post holding the gate to the bottom of the helper post. I usually use a scrap piece of pipe for the brae and cut out a hole to set the pipe into. Once the wire is on the pipe doesn't move. .
I understand exactly what you're talking about, Raymond. I would like to see videos about doing handiman stuff alone. No kids and no friends = no helpers. I have had to figure out 'how to' when working alone. Like setting beams, placing 20' floor joists, or changing out an RV a/c unit without a lift. Keep those tips coming, my friend!
Time to update i'd say. No need to measure, just get it close because the top hinge is adjustable with one simple nut. This gate must be for "show" because brace has no tie wire on it. No need for concrete and post hole digging if you have a Driver.
In the Texas black dirt I put caliche around the post in the holes & tamp it down. The dirt will shrink away from the cement in the dry summer making a loose post. Also its easier to set the gate on bricks or boards when marking the hinge holes so the people holding the gate dont move it up & down. It also makes it possible to hang a gate by yourself. (see below)
@Hollrobb yes it sounds like he new exactly what he was doing we still use that technique today but it is bad practice to hand a gate on a box brace or strainer it should be on a seperate post so if a vehicle or some thing hits the gate it wont ruin the tension on the fence
Ae you leaving that long bolt (from the hinge) sticking out of the post?? Looks like several inches are sticking out and could be something an animal (horses) could rub on and either get cut or hung up (if they are wearing a halter).
The dry powder will absorb ground water from the soil and work just as well, just takes a little longer to harden. Plus it helps in preventing you from using too much or not enough water; it'll only absorb what it needs.
Hanging the gate was easy. But I can find a latch for the center. I used a chain but it's sloppy. I couldn't have a space as wide as the ag. latches required (over 2 inches). You didn't bother to show that.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks for your great concise video, we appreciate you.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
who needs a security gate with Gene around.
he straight crazy
Where can I find the particular hinges you used in this video? Thanks for the great video!

I use a spade bit to reduce build-up of the wood being removed thus reducing wear on the drill as well.
Nice video
Check this out this is pretty handy for when a gate is on on level ground

Thanks so much guys!
Even though these posts were set into concrete wouldn't brace wire be ideal for gate posts?

What size drill long bit should be used to drill? Thank you

good video thank you
Spring mounted rubber wheels mounted on gates is best,.
good video, but one question.... you dont add water to the concrete mix at all??

Depends on where you live, if your in Arizona good luck!
What size is the bolt/hinge? I bought 3/4 x 12" and it took a lot of manipulation to get the gate hinges on the hinge bolt.
Lynn Bailey you probably needed 5/8". gate should swing freely on the hinges
Just saw this. Thank you. I got it to work. It was not easy.
you should really use a twist drill bit instead of that auger. Those bits kill cordless tools. Very good technique tho. thanks for the vid
What are those hinges called?
+Blake G fence hinges

actually i do have an idea use a level instead on looking at it
👌🙏🏼🏆
What does this do? Why is it sunny out? This is a fence post. Why?
Farm supply stores.
I think you can learn more about this on Stodoys.
Not a very good video. Nothing about the detail stuff, like what size was the drill bit for the J bolt.
I checked a lot of handbooks with woodworking plans. Instructions from woodprix are the best I think.
Excellent to see that woodprix has new plans what helped me save some money and energy to build it.
Enjoy woodprix woodworking instructions.
I made it by myself. I used woodprix woodworking plans for that.
Poor video
