  • Especially for 11th EN BN: Learn how to fly space available / how to fly space-a! There are free or nearly flee flights to be taken advantage of with the military. If a military flight is going somewhere, there may be a seat for you!
    Also in this video: Environmental Morale Leave, what it is and how to use it.
    Many people don't take advantage of space-a flights because of the low predictability. Space available flights are an awesome benefit that just require some know-how. This video also covers flights from Osan Air Base, Korea and how to use space-a on the Patriot Express.

    Hi Erin, just a little advice for your TH-cam family. Purchase apps pertaining to Space-A and anything you can find when it comes to military lodging, inns & suites, world maps, etc. Since military flights do not have internet access you can have this stuff already loaded on your tablet or iPad. Be smart, run over to your BX/PX and find printed materials on Space-A's flying to maps of all our bases. Read, investigate and talk to your terminal personnel, don't be afraid to ask a thousand questions. Hope this helps out. Your, recently retired (2019) C17 Loadmaster/March AFB, Riverside, CA. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. Good luck and safe travels.

    JUNGLECATS!
    Hey Team, an NCO in our ranks told me that the number one thing his Soldiers wanted was a flight home to the States. He worked to help them by teaching finance classes to help them save (SO IMPORTANT!) and my contribution is this Space-A video, so that you can better save your hard earned money by spending $60 round trip instead of $1600 or $4000.
    FORWARD!

      @CB BC Not 100% certain but from what I understand, 100% is 100%. The benefits should be the same. The only restrictions is that TDIU has limitations for employment. Perhaps check with a VSO (Veteran Service Officer) at the VA or at the Space A terminal? If you find out with concrete certainty, please fill me in too.

      @@erinmcshane4859 Thanks, Erin. It will be just over 30 years in the ANG when I retire. A lot of things to think about & do to process my retirement.
      Of course, I like the idea of very affordable air travel, but I don't like the idea of having no control over length of layovers, & associated cost of an extended stay in a location, waiting for an available seat. Otherwise, I could travel light, move fast, & be flexible, regarding lodging, food, etc., without the burdens of "Royalty" (bring everything, don't forget the kitchen sink)-lol.
      Thanks for your helpful & detailed information about Space "A" air travel. It was the first time I looked into how it works; I didn't know much at all, before watching your YT video.

    • @erinmcshane4859
      @erinmcshane4859  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re so welcome! The flights between the US & Korea and some other locations are frequent and often on a repeating schedule. You can call the passenger terminal to inquire- they are generally very helpful over the phone. Also, As you look at the flights going through a given terminal over time, you can get an idea of the general locations traveled to and the frequency.

    I'm with the airlines 25 years so I can dig flying around for free. I have the free flight benefits for life now. Its based on seniority. I can check in on my iPad and list myself and even request first class. Been all over the world. To get to Seoul, I would go via Guam. It would take me about 30 hours going to Frisco, Honolulu, Guam Seoul on my airlines. I did the Hong Kong that same route 2 years ago. My wife and I traveled all over. She's from the Philippines. We go there often. I hate going across the Pacific and done it way too many times. Just too long. I worked on Saipan for years with the airlines, been to Bali, Japan, Singapore, Hawaii, PNG, you name it. Argentina, Europe, central and South America. Are you from Maryland? I grew up in Silver Spring. (USMC Honorable Discharge 1982-85. Disabled service connected veteran.) Cheers.

    Hi! Thanks for this video. My husband and I are here at Humphreys as well and are trying to figure out Space-A. I have been looking for the form to apply for Environmental and Morale leave and can't find it! Do I need to fill out the same form as my husband, who is the service member or is there a different one for me? Any help is appreciated! I was looking at Space A flights for a wedding and I would be going alone. My understanding is that I would be category 5 even with EML status since my sponsor is not traveling with me. • @erinmcshane4859
      @erinmcshane4859  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can get guest passes for them. However, without military ID's they won't have access to the facilities (PX/Commissary, etc.) I suppose the food service places don't require ID, though.
      When my family came to visit, I arranged an apartment swap with a friend. He stayed at my place for a week, me and my family stayed off post at his place. That way, the fam could explore Korea and not be stranded without access to basic facilities (like groceries).

      It depends on how popular the flight is based on location, time of year, etc as well as whether you’re willing to gamble at the chance of getting a flight. Lots of flights have space-a seats that don’t get used. It’s worth checking out the Facebook pages to see how many open seats were left available on previous flights and the lowest category that was accepted on those flights.
