It’s from this point the show truly begins. Two major narrative points come to the forefront. The Jimmy/Chuck relationship being exposed for it’s true dynamic, and the Sandpiper case.
Chuck’s whistling before their confrontation reminded me of Walter’s nonchalant whistling after the Drew Sharp situation with Jesse. Also I love the look Howard gave Chuck before leaving the conference room as if to retroactively say “You did this.”
@@spackle9999 I don't think so. He sees him for the worst of what he is. So he pushes him away and rejects him, which turns it into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
There are some elements of truth in what Chuck says (mixed in with jealousy, prejudice, hate, etc.) and if this speech was made to the "Saul Goodman" we see in Breaking Bad no one would really question it. But seeing Jimmy Mcgill and everything he does in this first season shows how hard he has been trying to do the right thing and how he really has a good heart. So seeing this come from someone Jimmy has been trying very hard to make proud of him and do his best to care for in any way he can is pretty heartbreaking.
Another comment I saw in a Better Call Saul video pretty much summed Chuck up perfectly. The comment was, and I quote: Ahh, Chuck. The embodiment of “just because you are correct doesn’t mean you are right.” Sounds like a Joe Biden quote, I know 😂 But in context, there’s definitely some truth to that comment. Chuck’s worries are a legitimate concern, but the way he treats it, and how he treated Jimmy, just wasn’t right.
It's so sad that Jimmy and Chuck's relationship turned out this way. It's obvious that Jimmy cares for and admires Chuck very much, so much so that he worked hard to pass the bar while still working his job in the mail room so he could be just like his brother. But Chuck only sees Jimmy for the person he was, not the person he could've become had Chuck supported him.
fun fact: "man mountain" is clarence - the guy who drives the strippers in El Camino. he's one of the only two characters in the franchise that appear in both better call saul and el camino, but not breaking bad
Not only does Chuck block Jimmy from getting the job.. He makes out it was Howard's idea. He pretends he's on Jimmy's side when it was him insisting on it. Only when confronted by Jimmy, with evidence, does he admit it. Absolutely heinous.
This might be a controversial opinion, but I think the part about not hiring Jimmy to HHM isn't even bad. He's got a business to run and Jimmy could be a liability. We've seen the billboard stunt and the car fraud attempt on the kettlemans, we know slippin Jimmy isn't really gone all the way. Chuck knows, as well. But I 100% agree that decieving Jimmy for years and using Howard as a scapegoat is horrible. Chuck is clearly in the wrong for that one.
@@sertu1462 Disagree. If you have employee expectations you need to address those truthfully. Loyalty goes down as well as up. Both Chuck and Howard are guilty of not doing that...for years. One wonders, if they treat their employees this way, how awful do they treat clients, or adversaries? What haven't we seen over the years? Wow...didn't mean to rant. Just that Chuck talks about the sanctity of 'law' the way Walter talks about his 'family'.
It's sad when Howard is subtly begging Jimmy to take the money because he hates the whole situation and doesn't want Jimmy to find out. Howard really admires Chuck but doesn't see the truth.
There will be few flashbacks in coming episodes where we kind of come to know Chuck's perspective on why he hates the guts of Jimmy to become a lawyer But deep down he loves his brother, just not Jimmy as a Lawyer
Chuck coming down the stairs whistling away.. after their encouter at HHM. says how great he feels.. like he can walk around the block Anyways it.reminds me so much of the time WALT whistles in the tent they had when making meth in the customers house.. right after he told Jessie to stop thinking about the kid that got shot by Todd. it sounds like the same tune too. Lily of the Valley.
The better thing for Chuck to have done was to just let Jimmy be but be completely upfront about his disapproval of him being a lawyer but to actively sabotage jimmy's opportunity of rising up as a lawyer just seems incredibly evil and vindictive of Chuck like how can a sibling do that to his own brother? its just crazy
Oh man…this episode was actually what introduced me to Better Call Saul, and that scene with Mike and Trevor in that parking lot was honestly what introduced me to Mike! Very first scene I remember seeing him in, both in Better Call Saul AND Breaking Bad. The moment I saw Mike put Trevor Phillips in his place, picking him apart, I knew Mike was a badass and would be an awesome character! But yeah. While I can understand Chuck being worried about Jimmy being a lawyer, Chuck was way too fast to judge him. Chuck definitely has jealousy towards Jimmy, which becomes more apparent throughout Season 2. I think Chuck was so jealous of Jimmy, that he genuinely failed to realize Jimmy wanted to become a lawyer because of Chuck. Lots of other people might’ve looked up to Jimmy, but Jimmy looked up to Chuck and wanted to do right by him. Chuck might be a lawyer, a really good one, but I think he feels he has this sense of superiority and must always have it, even outside of Jimmy. Chuck is one of those characters who has both a superiority and an inferior complex. There’s only so much I can say. But all-around, Jimmy might not be perfect, but he clearly cares more about Chuck than Chuck cares about him. It almost reminds me of Jesse’s relationship with Walter, how little Walter actually seemed to genuinely appreciate Jesse.
Imagine if *Trevor* went with *Mike Ehrmantraut* & *Pryce* guy to that place where deal of exchange was happening Then 2 most famous actors from Video Games Industry would've been face to face in real flesh!! *Trevor* from *GTA 5* played by Actor _Steven Ogg_ *Vaas* from *FAR CRY 3* played by Actor _Michael Mando_ a.k.a _Nacho Varga_ Isn't that Amazing? 🤯🤯🤯
Btw, A bit of context regarding law school ect. The bar is the final part of becoming a lawyer, it is the same nationwide but is also relatively easy, as compared to a law degree. Before you do the bar exam, you have to get a law degree. This isn't the same everywhere. And getting it from American Samoa is different than from say a prestigious university. Not to say that Chuck is right. But the ways and the difficulty of reaching where they got was not the same between Jimmy and Chuck.
I don't want to give anything away, but you're opinion of many of these characters will evolve over this series. You'll be surprised at how you feel about many of them toward the end. This is what is brilliant about Vince Gilligan's writing. Hes very much about character evolution.
Chuck you can tell completely jealous of Jimmy and it's extreme sibling rivalry that some siblings just do even when the other sibling is just doing their thing and don't want ill blood . He is bitter Jimmy just is so naturally great at being a lawyer and it didn't take long for him to discover a HUGE case that makes law firms salivate for sure. Just such a hurtful betrayal . Honestly I think Howard went off on Kim because perhaps he feels a bit guilty with screwing over jimmy and Kim unfortunately confronted him a little too soon
For Season 1 ... Episode 6 with Mike's history is the best. But really love 9 as well. The pimento sandwich is a pure comedy scene ... but also getting to the truth behind Chuck / Howard. Most people really transition position on Howard when you realized he was effectively trapped into playing Bad Cop given the power Chuck has. But glad the truth comes out ... Howard is quirky in his own way but in general a respectable character.
Someday when you are done with this series, you should watch the table reads for this episode. A table read is when the actors sit around the table and act out, their scenes. Of course, only the main cast is invited to the table read. Because of this the director usually reads the lines for the secondary actors like price. I think Vince Gilligan was the one who got to read Price's lines. The entire cast laughed every time he read a line from this actor. 😂
18:12 I love how Max had the big plot twist all figured out minutes before it actually happened, only to have a little bump of uncertainty right when it's about to happen. Max's too sharp for this show until he isn't. But for the plot twist itself, I hated Chuck for what he did to Jimmy. The fact that he's so oblivious to the way he wrongs Jimmy while simultaneously believing he's doing the right thing infuriates me. Jimmy has literally been keeping Chuck alive for a year and steadily working to make something of himself, but Chuck believes he can't be anything more than Slippin Jimmy. You don't sabotage your own brother because you can't trust his judgment. You have an open discussion about your concerns for his future. It might still have hurt Jimmy to hear it, but at least you'd still have a relationship with him. Shame on Chuck for that move.
With everything we know about Saul aka Jimmy via Breaking Bad and via everything we’ve seen so far on this show… is Chuck REALLY wrong about about his brother? And would not his own brother know Jimmy better than anyone? The writers have done a TERRIFIC job to make you root for very bad people - I’ll give them that! 😂
But everything that happens in BB is way after this. Had Chuck supported Jimmy surely he would never hsve met Walter White because he would not have become Saul. He woulda been a partner at HHM. You cant justify Chuck based on what is yet to happen
Seeing Jimmy doing well regarding the Sandpiper case is great since it’s nice to see him in his element, though having to turn it over to HHM is unfortunate. Seeing Mike deciding to do a job like this, while also taking out Trevor from GTA V while also having the other one just run away as a result of dealing with Trevor is hilarious and then having Mike meeting Nacho is really cool. Also Pryce is an idiot, but that basically is self explanatory. And the end when we see how Chuck really thinks about Jimmy being a lawyer and being the one who ensured he wouldn’t be working at HHM is very unfortunate. Apparently they wanted Howard to be the antagonist to Jimmy originally but then switched it to Chuck so that Howard was just the fall guy and it defiantly works. But it sucks when we see everything Jimmy has done for Chuck, from bringing him food and papers and then putting that moon blanket inside his jacket. Also the big guy who ran away after Mike dealt with Trevor was in El Camino as the bouncer who brings the women to the wielding place before Jesse goes in and kills the two guys to get the money he needs. I believe his name is Clarence. Obviously he was in this series before that movie, but it’s cool how Vince Gilligan brought him back to show what he’s doing after Breaking Bad. Also Kim is a great friend to Jimmy. I like whenever the two of them are together. Great reactions guys, take care!
the chuck reveal is good for making things interesting but i feel like people run with it too far jimmy has been doing bad things for a long time chuck just wanted to avoid saul goodmans creation (chuck definitely plays a roll in creating him anyways) but jimmy is no angel 😭
I don't think anyone is on Chuck side but in reality Chuck is technically correct. All the things jimmy was doing all season long the wrong way . We also know from breaking bad The type of lawyer Jimmy is. The funny thing is this show is So good it makes you hate a guy that Is correct, and love a Guy who is in the wrong. I'm not saying chuck isn't at fault at all either. Chuck never gave jimmy the benefit of the doubt, although he probably did earlier on in life and had been through it so many times that he gave up.They both play a huge part in this never ending cycle that seems to be their relationship. Superb writing.
Chuck is jealous cause Jimmy has the knowledge and the street smarts to be a lawyer but chuck only has the knowledge and the book smart. He put yrs in and Jimmy didn’t have to. He resents him for it. Jealous or disdain it’s still messed up since they are brothers
Hi there! I needed something on in the background while I decluttered my home and decided to see if there were any Braking Bad reactors that I hadn’t seen yet. Well, I was delighted to find this channel. However, I have to say that your reactions are terrible for background sound, cuz I kept finding myself just watching the two of you instead of doing the deep clean that my place needs. You’ve got a new subscriber and I can’t wait to binge watch all of your Breaking Bad reactions. Love that you’re doing Better Call Saul and looking forward to more!
Max, I would buy and read the mike bible hands down!!! He will teach you life lessons and criminal behavior from his perspective and you will survive and thrive by reading that bible! Lol
But chucks behaviour towards jimmy is a huge element that reinforces him to go down that path. It is still his fault but you can't for a moment tell me that chuck didn't play a huge part in it
But if you really think about it, Jimmy was trying to be a good person and lawyer. But Chuck sabotaging and keeping him from succeeding led him to resource to Slippin' Jimmy mode. Imagine if he was hired from the mail room to be a lawyer and had to grind his way like Kim; remember Howard used to call him Charlie Hussle? He would have become as good as Chuck and added another M to the company.
Guy on the left has seen the show right? He keeps leading the other guy to a conclusion. Like reminding him chuck took Jimmy's phone. Or "should probably have this conversation outside" before Howard tells him he doesn't need Jimmy...
When Jimmy is down, Chuck is almost normal. When Jimmy is on top of his game and doing well, Chuck is wrapped in space blankets. Chuck isn’t allergic to electricity he’s allergic to Jimmy success
Watching Breaking Bad so many times, I think Saul was as inevitable as Heisenberg from the beginning. People adapt to their surroundings and get away with whatever they can, but they can't change entirely. Chuck's jealousy over how much people love Jimmy shows that. I think he also saw the risk of elevating someone who was a lifetime scam artist and nearly a registered sex offender. What's to stop Jimmy from using his new power for evil? If he did, how many people would blame Chuck for not doing more to prevent it? From a societal perspective, how many times do we complain about screw-ups who use nepotism and connections to get them out of trouble and shield them from the consequences of their actions? The first episode of the series saw Jimmy trying to scam/blackmail people into becoming his clients because he saw a huge payday.
Question for the philosopers Nurture or nature We see who Jimmy becomes And the show does an incredible job at keeping it rhetorical. Was Chuck genuinely right? Or Was he creating his worst nightmare the chimp with a machine gun slipping Jimmy with a law degree? One thing is certainly true, though, here. Howard was portraying the bad guy and you see his mask come off with Kim. Kim and Howard are amazing characters you'll come to see
would u be grateful for ur child poisoning, elder manipulating, scamming, stealing brother? no matter how much ice he brought me he’d still be slippin jimmy he’s super charismatic and likable but let’s be honest
@Graytaco100 and yet hes doing all this for his brother so he can be just like him a lawyer jimmy just wanted his brother approval since jimmy never got it from his father.
Apologies for being that person, but I gotta disagree on this one. Chuck cares more about the law than anything. And the fact that he loves the law more than his own brother is messed up and yes making Howard take responsibility was awful, but I think Chuck's reasoning is that Jimmy with a law degree is absolutely terrifying to someone who respects the law like it's a religion. I feel like Chuck is the only person who can see where this is going. He's right. Chuck is right. Jimmy is still that guy. He is still "Slippin' Jimmy." We know that because we know where he ends up. Saul Goodman is the natural progression of Slippin' Jimmy. That said, who knows if Jimmy could have changed if he had his brother believing in him, etc. But my point is that Chuck isn't wrong. He just did it in a crappy way. Also, I could be wrong. Anyway, keep up the great reacting!
Chuck is fine with Jimmy as long as he is not to be his equal. Working in just the mailroom made Jimmy below Chuck and easy to keep in line in Chuck’s eyes, but it infuriates him that Jimmy is dare trying to be on his level instead of just a little higher than a scummy conman, which is what he sees his brother as. Shame.
Chuck is lucky he's not my brother. Betrayal is an absolute deal breaker with me and I am a violent thug. I absolutely hate Chuck. Crow bar round the head a few times. Rain dance on his face. Jimmy is not violent though.
jimmy has done things to chuck and the family for years and he goes on to help poison a child and murder multiple people😭 i love jimmy and chuck but chuck gets shat on by everyone
@@graytaco1002 yeah he goes on to do that stuff... but do you think je would have if he was partner at HHM? Chuck effectively sent him down the path. I fn hate Chuck. There is such a thing as redemption. Jimmy got himself through the Bar unaided and found Sandpiper. He coulda made good. But Chuck blocked him. My brother do that to me? Never walk again. Heinous betrayal born of jealousy.
@@graytaco1002 only say that coz youve seen the rezt of the story. But AT THIS POINT in the timeline, Jimmy is excited to be a lawyer and work on the class action. He is tirning things round. He enjoys working with Chuck. And Chuck betrays him eith tragic consequences. Get it? Imagine all you know is the story up to this episode.
Interesting if you switch Chuck with “Jimmy” in your comment, it still applies and accurately explains how Chuck has felt about jimmy all those years. Stealing from his dad’s shop, pulling schemes. All that demonstrates casual betrayal of trust that was prob eating at Chuck from the inside. While chucks handling of this was wrong, Jimmy would’ve hit so many deal breakers for me as his sibling I would’ve been so done with him long before I give him a job at HHM 😂
It’s from this point the show truly begins. Two major narrative points come to the forefront. The Jimmy/Chuck relationship being exposed for it’s true dynamic, and the Sandpiper case.

Yes Mike meeting Nacho hell yea. Pryce while funny isn’t quite as pivotal to the show. Squat Cobbler notwithstanding

Also I love the look Howard gave Chuck before leaving the conference room as if to retroactively say “You did this.”
That hits doubly hard when you remember Walter treats Jimmy even worse. Walter was essentially like another Chuck to Jimmy, but much worse.
If only Chuck could put aside his petty grudge and see how much Jimmy loved and admired him...Together they would have been unstoppable.

Imagine if he was hired from the mail room to be a lawyer and had to grind his way like Kim; remember Howard used to call him Charlie Hussle? He would have become as good as Chuck and added another M to the company.
@@leniac jimmy’s so good at manipulating that he manipulates the audience into seeing him as noble let’s be honest
i’m a chuck and jimmy apologist they are in a shit situation and i love both characters while hating both of them at the same time fantastic writing
WOOHOOOOOO I LOVE THIS CHANNEL GREAT EPISODE MIKE IS AWESOME
Thank you!
Guy on the left has seen the show right? He keeps leading the other guy to a conclusion. Like reminding him chuck took Jimmy's phone. Or "should probably have this conversation outside" before Howard tells him he doesn't need Jimmy...
OG mike cant be beat.
I don't know why but I always get Walton Goggins and Steve Ogg mixed up.
When Jimmy is down, Chuck is almost normal. When Jimmy is on top of his game and doing well, Chuck is wrapped in space blankets. Chuck isn’t allergic to electricity he’s allergic to Jimmy success
Agreed!
he’s allergic to SLIPPIN jimmy which is who he has been for the whole show he’s worried about jimmy gaining power with his bad practices
@@graytaco1002 yeah but he wasn’t sick till Jimmy got his lawyer license
Question for the philosopers
Nurture or nature
We see who Jimmy becomes
And the show does an incredible job at keeping it rhetorical.
Was Chuck genuinely right? Or Was he creating his worst nightmare the chimp with a machine gun slipping Jimmy with a law degree?
One thing is certainly true, though, here.
Howard was portraying the bad guy and you see his mask come off with Kim. Kim and Howard are amazing characters you'll come to see
When are you guys coming back? :(
sad jimmy is such a good brother and chuck is so ungrateful to have jimmy as a brother.
Agreed!
would u be grateful for ur child poisoning, elder manipulating, scamming, stealing brother? no matter how much ice he brought me he’d still be slippin jimmy he’s super charismatic and likable but let’s be honest
This episode is why F@#k Chuck.
Shame.
Agreed!
Man I’ve hated Chuck since the first time I saw him GET OVER YOURSELF CHUCK
There are definitely people on Chuck's side in youtube comment sections, other snobs looking down.
a non snob chuck supporter here
@@graytaco1002 'Snob' is more something you say of other people, no snob will admit to being one, so I'll have to take your comment how I take it.
@@antimonycup7066 just thought the fact u used the word snob was funny much love
God, I hate Chuck!!
Same!
@@RedStaticReacts hates a strong word !!
@@graytaco1002: Chuck broke his brothers heart. Jimmy looked up to Chuck and wanted Chucks approval and acceptance. Chuck was Jimmys hero.
@@graytaco1002 Okay, how about I loathe Chuck with every fiber of my being?
@@lynnie6633 that’s better !
@@innercircle341 chucks no saint but jimmy’s no better that’s my take
@@graytaco1002 only say that coz youve seen the rezt of the story.
