And sometimes he perfectly represented Robotnik/Eggman, especially with that part where Robotnik got EXTREMELY peeved off that Sonic beat him again with the "GIVE ME A BIG! FAT! BREAK!" Such an Eggman reaction.

Dudes, I wasn't even interested in watching this movie before, but now after they redesigned the character because of the backlash, I'm watching it. As an artist, I respect that they did this A LOT.

Yes! They met us half way by giving us what we wanted: A better redesign Sonic, A trailer that seems to give us a different & more enjoyable story, and more Jim Carrey being classic Jim Carrey. Now its our turn to make sure we meet them the other half way, by giving them what they want: $$$$ at the opening weekend

I honestly though gangsters paradise was a good fit for him.
Especially if we find out the freedom fighters are a thing.
Here's what I think the story is
Sonic and eggman are fighting 1 day when they both get pulled into earth and meet their seperate people
Eggman is swindling the military to let him CAPTURE sonic while also secretly plotting to take it over like he did everything on mobius.
Hence the song Gangsters paradise
Sonic was spending his early years fighting eggman relentlessly(gangsters paradise) .

Apparently, part of the reason the first trailer focused so much on Robotnik was because those shots of 'Sanic' were basically the *only* VFX shots they had finished at the time. So it was easier to redesign Sonic and re-render the shots than if they had a lot more of the movie completed.

How is it that so many fans dont know what a warp(not portal) ring is? It's been around since sonic the hedgehog 1 on genesis. It was used to transport to a different special zone at the end of the level.
These are young fans from maybe the dreamcast version of Sonic. The guy even called Gangsters Paradise a trash song. I knew the warp/portal ring as soon as I seen it.
@@JonLa89 late af but they literally have both been playing since genesis. I’m way younger than them and know what warp rings are only because I played the games recently. They haven’t really used warp rings that much in years.
I read in an article talking about this redesign that, apparently the artist behind the archie comics, who also apparently had a hand in the Sonic Mania cinematic intro, headed the redesign. If that's true, it's no wonder he looks true to form.
I'm gonna see it probably twice just to show them I appreciate what the animators did.
I think the original sanic should come back in a later movie as Sanic.exe but with the red and black eyes cause he’ll be evil

The director of Detective Pikachu I believe said in an interview (when asked about Sanic) said that they worked closely with Nintendo and GameFreak for over 2 years on each of the pokemon design in the movie. I believe I read that Paramount never consulted with Sega once during initial character design, only showing them the final version art days before the reveal. If true, that shows you from the beginning what they goal was, but I think i saw in an interview that the director of Sonic said he and the producer had no creative control over the character design initially?
For those who complains about Dr Robotnik's looks, remember in the first trailer that in some point in the movie his looks changes into the classic Eggman looks, bald with a big brown mustache
IT IS AMASSING, jim carry looks like he is having fun, and SONIC man he looks grate
I wasnt that interested in this movie after its 1st trailer and i still am not after the 2nd tbh, but man im gonna go watch the hell out of this movie in theathers just to support it 😂, them listening to their viewers to this extent is priceless (and unusual as hell), so they really deserve peoples positive feedback, i hope this movie does great.

In my opinion it was the trailer more than the new design that made me hyped for the movie. I think if they would've made this trailer the first one, then people might've turned a blind eye to the old design.
Fun to go back and see these reactions, but still sad to hear that the original animation team were fired after they made the corrections.

Well, the internet did bully the studio, although it is a long-time build up from studios ruining movies with already established fandoms, like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, the announcement of all-female Terminator (which now we know they actually shit on the original franchise's lore). Given this time was the character design though, but they now did a great job and everyone who complained should go watch the movie to at least show support to the studio who listened to their fans when they committed such a bad mistake.
