  • @fsutaria
    @fsutaria 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

    What could Philip have done, if Elizabeth had indeed pulled Charles out of Gordonstoun? Divorcing her would have backfired on him, because he was in fact, almost penniless when he married her. If he was openly unfaithful to her, public sympathy would have been with the queen. In fact, he could have done nothing, except sulked about it, so it surprises me that Liz did not support her son as strongly as she should have.

      He could have found a good looking rich heiress who actually cared about putting their relationship first. He could have had an amazing career in the Navy instead of being bored out of his mind following that boring, stuffy woman around. If you listen to his interviews where he's actually allowed to speak, he was scary smart. As soon as he was too old to rule that bunch, look what happened. The whole monarchy is a total mess right now and Charles keeps getting caught taking suitcases full of money from people. Harry runs around crying all the time, wanting to put anyone who disagrees with him in jail, and Camilla is apparently on a power high and is running everything. Anne is the only one that took after her father.

    • @fsutaria
      @fsutaria 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@irisjanemay1903 Not if he came out of a divorce. Public sympathy would have been with the Queen in any case. Marrying a rich heiress would make him look like a gold digger. He might have gone back to the Navy, but after divorcing the crown, he could not hope to rise as high. In fact, all that would be open to him would be the "job" of a socialite. As for being the only one who could "rule that bunch", had been a more understanding father, there would have been no need for that either.

      Prince Philip was ear marked to be a future Admiral of the Fleet in the Royal Navy. It is 100% understandable that he would be really upset about loosing it as he work so hard for it and it was not given to him like the titles he was born with; which he had to give up to become an English Duke married to the Queen. While keeping in mind that this is all fiction, dont forget that neither Philip nor Elizabeth had expected to be in this position as soon as they were. Philip was dealing with the premature end of his own career while dealing with a court that did not treat him the way one would expect a royal consort to be treated. A lot of that had to do with Churchill, Queen Mary, the queen mother, and Tommy Lascelles. It took some time for everything to come together to make Philip into the beloved member of the family he would eventually become. Was he ever this cruel to Charles and Elizabeth? Probably not. Fictionally here, he’s the antagonist in an effort to create the drama the television show needs.

      I could be wrong, but I think Elizabeth may have been trapped by her own kindness. She was smart to see Charles's future. He does have sometimes social anxiety and intimacy problems (not just with Diana). Uncle Dickie means well to help Charles, he does not want to interfere. Prince Philip may have been secretly jealous of Charles being so cozy at Buckingham Palace and his own childhood was full of turmoil and chaos. I often wondered if Philip wanted to break out of Buckingham Palace and return to his Naval career instead of his unfulfillment with cutting ribbons and maybe this was his reason to threaten divorce. I think Philip wanted to toughen the sensitive Charles up, but this is always the wrong way of helping a sensitive child. I used to work for an elementary school and so I have seen these situations before. You cannot 'discipline' or 'toughen' a sensitive child - you only compound their pains and embarrassments. I am not an expert but again, I've been aware of how bullies are for a while now. What was it for the queen to contact the headmaster?! She was a concerned mother for goodness' sake! Whether it is a local school down the street or Gordonstoun parents have EVERY RIGHT to see that their child is not harmed or injured emotionally or physically!

    • @JoanMorrison-vq2jc
      @JoanMorrison-vq2jc 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@monmothma3358 I think the queen was trapped in the middle of wanting her child removed from such a horrible school and on the other side the queen knew she could not have a divorce! She really was kind to think about both her husband and Charles. She had a sense of kindness for both of them thus she may have had a feeling of being stuck or even trapped in this painful situation. I hope I explained it 😃. In the long run all three were hurt. Philip never got the rough, tough Charles that he wanted, Charles himself never matured and the queen never made her feelings known to the headmaster to nip this bullying in the bud! Till this day Gordonstoun is under investigation for charges of bullying and abuse. Sad and very shameful. I think in modern times this awful stuff should stop for these students.
