@@RichV20 Which is funny now, because those 1992-94 Cowboys were easily one of the greatest NFL teams of all time. Had the idiot Cowboys owner (Jerry Jones) not run off Jimmy Johnson, that team would have won 4 Super Bowls in a row instead of winning "just" 3 in 4 years.
NFC Championship games like this really opened my eyes as to why the AFC lost every Super Bowl from 84-96. NFC teams like these 49ers and Cowboys were so complete on offense and defense. They had playmakers at almost every position. The AFC's best teams during this same era (Bills, Broncos, Dolphins, Bengals, Steelers) always had glaring weak spots that were easily exploited by the stronger NFC. They either had great defenses, but bad offenses (Steelers) or great offenses but bad defenses (Dolphins, Broncos, Bills)
Broncos defenses were top during this period, but their offense was mediocre. Oilers could score at will and shut teams down. But they'd always get exposed and exploited in the playoffs.

@@frankaddington1773 you do realize that the Bills beat the 49ers in the first ever no punt game that season, right. So, when you're putting down the Bills, you're also putting down the 49ers who lost to them and you're making the Cowboys victory over those same 49ers not sound so impressive.

Emmitt Smith was brilliant in this game and anyone who thinks he's just a product of a great offensive line doesn't know a thing about football. He made that line look just as good as they made him look
Emmitt is the product of a great runner behind all time great blocking. There have been great lines without great runners, and great runners who never had great lines. That was both together. Emmitt made defenders miss with both his elusiveness and would power through tackles. He also found ways to maintain balance and recover from tackles which would have seen other lesser backs fall to the ground. No way he has his records without that offensive line. @@PaulGaither Maybe so. But Emmitt shouldn't be penalized historically for taking advantage of being in a better situation. We can woulda/coulda/shoulda this to death but the bottom line is he did the job and he has the records and nothing can be done or said to change that reality. He was a smart runner. Tough as nails, elusive, could block, and could catch out of the backfield. And he was still a 1000 yd back well into his 30's long after that Oline had passed it's glory days. He was still a 1000 yd guy in his late 30's on a whole different team. Barry's greatness does absolutely nothing to negate Emmitt's. Dallas' entire offense sputtered with Emmitt off the field with a HOF QB and WR. He was the best player on 3 SB teams. No alternate universe changes any of that
@@PaulGaither Barry was not a big game back... Emmit was money when you needed him to be... Barry couldn't run in that offense...his style was unconventional... fullback would get in the way...
This game is a good example of how defense wins championships. San Francisco had all of the momentum early and were moving the ball better than Dallas, but the Cowboys defense kept flying to the ball and creating turnovers allowing the offense opportunities to get on track and regain momentum.
This was a fantastic game full of intense dramatic moments. So happy my Cowboys made just enough big plays to pull off the upset!! Harper with catch and run of his career!!
Joe Montana was on the bench during this game! Steve Young was the league MVP at this time and had entrenched himself as the starting QB for the 49ers, but still hard to imagine Montana on the sidelines for the 49ers during a game of this magnitude
2 reasons (other than Herschel Walker trade) that led to the dynasty. 1. Charles Haley 2. Transition to Steve Young. As a cowboys fan there's no doubt in my mind if Montana plays when healthy the Niners take at least one from the cowboys. At least.
I think the 49ers defense, while great during the regular season, looked really old and slow in this game. A lot of their great 80s defensive players were gone (Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, Charles Haley, Keena Turner) or old/slow (Michael Walter for example). Eric Davis wasn’t a #1 corner and Michael Irvin was killing him on these slants.
Not sure what u folks are talking about.. besides the one interception, Steve Young was brilliant. Second interception was forced because the game was already over. He even got robbed of the bomb to Rice because of that bs holding penalty in the first quarter. It was the Niners D that choked in this game not Steve Young.
These were the best of the best NFC Championship games played! I remember that feeling of excitement and nervousness for a whole week before they played. Glad my Cowboys pulled them out!

What a classic old school NFL playoff game between two legendary franchises game called by the late pat Summerall and John Madden R.I.P to both of them
0:59 I get chills watching that “almost” Jerry Rice TD catch, brings back to NFL films showing the close up of his face as he’s heading for the end zone.
Indeed boys and girls this is Real football right here. The sad part is that I keep looking for flags on some of these plays , then I have to remind myself oh yeah , this when players could actually play loose and physical without bullshit penalty flags every other play.
I loved my Cowboys, back then. No owner, effin' things up. A real coach in Jimmy Johnson. Players with character and heart. Madden callin' the game. Those were the days.
I miss the announcers actually watching the game and calling what they see on the field. Now-a-days they wait for the official announcement from the field.
NFL Throwback thank you for finally using the correct 49ers wordmark! Most 49er videos on this channel incorrectly feature the inferior wordmark that was introduced in 2005.
The youngest team with the lowest salary won the Super Bowl. Somebody had a great eye for talent back then; I wonder if firing a certain coach changed everything for almost 30 years now 🤔.
The coin toss with the CBS music always gives me chills. Roger Staubach was Steve Young’s favorite player growing up, you spend your life getting here, and you have to beat Roger’s team.
YES!!! Rivalry is back! I've waited so long for this to happen. 😱😃🙌 Yes, I know Niners lost this game, but this rivalry is what I missed out on watching bc I was too young, but I remember hearing these two teams' names (and Buffalo Bills) a lot! Every wildcard game is a playoff rematch. NFL Throwback should be busy making videos for each of them, and I especially want to see the old school games from the 60's and 70's.
Compare these highlights to the divisional re-match 30 years later (January 2023). Back in '93, football was still football, where real tackling was allowed, players cared more about their team than themselves, and flawless execution of plays despite nasty field conditions. Today it's unusual to see a player get their uniform dirty...that is on the rare occasion when they play on real grass.
As a Cowboys fan for many years up until that point, it was such an amazing moment. Being dominate in the 70s. Then slowly going down in the 80s. Then going back up like they did when Jimmy Johnson came on board. It was such a culmination of so many things. I don't think any team could have beat the 49ers that day but the Cowboys.
Joe Cool might have pulled some magic like he did in the catch game and in KC the next year, as a Cowboys fan, I’m glad the Niners stuck with Young.
@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 I agree with you.
2 reasons (other than Herschel Walker trade) that led to the dynasty.
1. Charles Haley
The names of these teams. Phenomenal!!
These were the best of the best NFC Championship games played! I remember that feeling of excitement and nervousness for a whole week before they played. Glad my Cowboys pulled them out!
Arguably the 2 best teams in NFL history.
Not to Hate on the 49ers, but Clearly the Dallas Cowboys Were a level above them! This Cowboys Team 1992-1995 was the BEST NFL TEAM EVER!
these games were brutal. 90% of these plays would be penalized now
Yep
ME AND MY MOTHER WATCHED THIS GAME TOGETHER, SHE WASN'T A FAN OF FOOTBALL, BUT SHE KNEW HOW MUCH I LOVE THE COWBOYS. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM, I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU, R.I.P😇
As a Niner fan, I used to cringe every time Dexter Carter returned punts and kickoffs for us. He was more dicey than craps game in Vegas.
I think it was Alan Grant who fumbled here, though. DC was shaky sometimes but ld take him over Adam Walker anyday.
That 92 Cowboys team would beat any legendary team from any era
Nah
@@JohnDoe-sl6di yah
Aikman, Irvin, Johnston, Novacek, Harper, Smith, man the Cowboys had a ton of good options to get yardage.
As a fan of the NFL these games bring back special Memories. Thanks for the upload.
Emmit was the best player on that field that day
Alvin Harper and John Taylor don’t get enough credit
The grounds crew did a great job resoding the field leading up to this game. I remember after the Washington game a week earlier the field was pretty much a mud pit between the numbers. George Toma and his crew really put in some work before this contest.
The Niners Cowboys rivalry of the 90s was epic… 😮 this 9ers squad was 14-2 too
The original changing of the guards of the NFC.
Original????

There was nobody better than Pat & John in the booth! ❤
What a classic old school NFL playoff game between two legendary franchises game called by the late pat Summerall and John Madden R.I.P to both of them
Here we go again
0:59 I get chills watching that “almost” Jerry Rice TD catch, brings back to NFL films showing the close up of his face as he’s heading for the end zone.
Damn they had Rice too at beginning of the game …. I remember these losses like yesterday devastating
Indeed boys and girls this is Real football right here. The sad part is that I keep looking for flags on some of these plays , then I have to remind myself oh yeah , this when players could actually play loose and physical without bullshit penalty flags every other play.
NFL in the 90s were so great
Yeah, those eight turnovers by the niners in two playoff games just screams greatness...
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
It had great players
I loved my Cowboys, back then. No owner, effin' things up. A real coach in Jimmy Johnson. Players with character and heart. Madden callin' the game. Those were the days.
When pat summeral starting talking and music was playing it reminded me of playing my brother in Sega Madden video game!
15:17 Pat almost cussed. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
19:51 How is that not a flag?
28:08 The look of defeat. "Boy". 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If get another San Francisco-Dallas game, Throwback gonna have to show some 70s playoff games. I’m so excited for this 3:30pm on Sunday it’s perfect
Two of the best org to ever do it period #cowboys4life
Team. 92 Cowboys were a team.
A Healthy Joe Montana sitting on the bench is just crazy.
Yeah I agree. I’m honestly surprised in hindsight how the 49ers didn’t have him go out there when they were trailing late in the game.
The youngest team with the lowest salary won the Super Bowl. Somebody had a great eye for talent back then; I wonder if firing a certain coach changed everything for almost 30 years now 🤔.
Were it not for two Neil O'Donnel interceptions in SB 30, Jimmy Johnson's team would've been the last Cowboys SB champion.
2:40 what a collision.
The coin toss with the CBS music always gives me chills. Roger Staubach was Steve Young’s favorite player growing up, you spend your life getting here, and you have to beat Roger’s team.
The 1992-2002 NFL on CBS theme is in a class of its own. Sooo goood.!
FOX took over from CBS in 1994
YES!!! Rivalry is back! I've waited so long for this to happen. 😱😃🙌
Yes, I know Niners lost this game, but this rivalry is what I missed out on watching bc I was too young, but I remember hearing these two teams' names (and Buffalo Bills) a lot!
But now, I can watch this rivalry on the playoff stage, and Bills are in it too! 🤩
It's not a rivalry, anymore. It was back then because the 49ers and Cowboys were the two best teams in football. This was the REAL Super Bowl.
@@emantabrizi8218 Yeah, I agree now it's not like it was back then. Then again, Niners and Cowboys now are arguably 50/50 coming this Super Wild Card matchup.
It would be awesome if the rivalry can come back to being big again, especially like how it was then.
This is going to be a great weekend!!!! Who wants to come to my house in Illinois?
I was at this game with my wife. Still one of my fondest memories. I love you Lori
That hit Dixon Edwards put on the punt returner was so loud you can almost feel it. Daryl Johnston with those good hands recovered the fumble.
I remember watching this game on pins and needles. Remember being worried about the wet field as I was rooting for the Cowboys. This was football at its finest. A heavyweight battle of epic proportions!
RIP to John & Pat!!🙏🏾🙏🏾💯💯
Even then at the time, for those 4 yrs, everyone knew whoever won this game was going to win the super bowl.. both teams were just stacked.
Phenomenal defense from the Cowboys.
Every wildcard game is a playoff rematch. NFL Throwback should be busy making videos for each of them, and I especially want to see the old school games from the 60's and 70's.
how's that?
Same here
“You get upset at people talking to you about being upset.”
That’s like my relationship lol 😆
The video quality is incredible.
Other than the Super Bowl victories, this might be the most important win in Cowboys franchise history.
I miss the days of John Madden and Pat Summerall
There will never be another Broadcasting duo like Pat Summerall and John Madden.
The 49ers were really really good.
The match, the rivalty that fall me in love for this game and a dieharder fan of Cowboys❤❤❤
