    As long as you are moving, you are making money! You can keep moving for $0.85 or sit at home waiting on $1.50 🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽. Just remember, moving or not, Progressive still wants their insurance payment, truck note still due, mortgage/rent is due on the 1st.
    I don't have the option to sit and wait 🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽 but that's my choice.

    There will never come a day, when any customer will risk his/her company's future by risking and resorting to low ball, low rent expedite costs. Let's open our eyes. It's etched into any Company's business model and budget to pay a higher premium for critical hotshot expedite. By any means necessary! But before that premium pay reaches the actual road warriors'(driver's)wallet, the broker/carrier industry are finding more and more ways to get their greedy paws on that premium cash. And the drivers continue to do an excellent job, so the Companies are pleased with their timely freight. But unbeknownst of the driver exploitation occurring daily. The eighth most dangerous job in the country, and they're taking away your hazard portion of the driver pay.

    Brokers are the issue. If we continue to give in, they will continue to groom us, while they rake in the bigger percentage. It's tough decisions 😕

    • @Eagle-Xpress
      @Eagle-Xpress  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not all brokers are like that. It's tough for them too because their customers shop around as well for a cheaper rate. If one broker can't give customer the rate they want they will find another broker who will. It's simple. Just like brokers with us if we can't drive for 70 cents and that's what the load pays then they will find someone who will... And they always find someone we know because those loads dissappear becasue someone took it for that rate.

    • @williamrobinson6680
      @williamrobinson6680 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I believe as an independent contractor, we're legally allowed to see the original rate confirmation. What is the original customer paying.
      That's why you'll see varying levels of documentation to "mimic" an original contract. Cut and paste, partial, made up confirmation. Some as little as, "$750 to you."
      A driver may see three or more broker/carriers for one load! Sometimes, fake carriers without any trucks. Just a middle man to skim your cash.
      Regardless, I think by law, the independent contractor should see the original contract and agree to his/her percentage. Carriers at times, avoid disclosing pay, by saying "PERCENTAGE ". Well percentage of WHAT!? Percentage of Ford's contract at $3000? Or percentage of the third broker/carrier down the line at $1200?
      Cut and paste: "$720 to you!" Lucky guy!
      Don't spend it all in one place now. Your transmission is about to fail with 350k mi!

    I worked for Panther expedite in 2015. The rates are exactly the same as you quoted today. With all the inflation, Covid era you would think rates would go up. All local factory jobs pay and others made a substantial gain over the last couple years. Why are the rates the same as they were 8 years ago? I think the brokers are taking the extra. Why would they have to pay any more if they got Daryl Daryl and Daryl working for them.

  • @Sarasdad91
    @Sarasdad91 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's not just greedy brokers, although they are a big problem. It's to much competition as well. I've been doing this since 2012, and it was good money back then, $1.10 to $1.20 per mile, but with the cut throats taking 35/40 CPM, it's tough for us. Also many retirees are expediting now because they realize they don't have to spend money to buy a motorhome and see the country. Since most sprinter freight is no touch, they can make money while they're seeing the country, delivering freight, and this is saturating the market.

    Semi's make far more than a 1.50 mile. Maybe watch some TH-cam truckers. Many are making $3 a mile and more. I think any body driving for .75 a mile expediting is a sucker. Minimum $1 mile.

      Dry van semi trucks are driving for $1 to 1.50 a mile average with full loads right now. I don't need to watch anyone when I have friends and close people in the industry doing this so I know the rates. You can open any load board for semi loads and you will see for yourself.

    I have a question. If u bid .85 to.70 where is the profit margin for eagle express. Bidding all day wether you are doing it or someone in your company is takes time and is very hard to do on the road driving alone. Load boards aren’t for free either so I’m questioning the actual rate at which you win the bid because you can’t do it for cost and stay in business while only paying yourself for your loads if you have other drivers. Bottom line what is your profit margin before your drivers pay.

      More saving then spending that's how you can afford it. And 85 cents a mile is not cheap. Semi trucks are ranging $1 - 1.50$ a mile and they have a lot more expenses than a cargo van. 5 to 6 mpg vs 20mpg in a sprinter.

It seems to me the best time to enter a business such as this is during the 2nd half of a recession, assuming you have enough other income and savings to ride it out. The weak hands will fall to the wayside and the strong hands will remain as the economy starts to recover and rates pick back up.

This assumes a $60k van, 100k payable miles per year, 20k miles per year dead head, repairs, and a gas engine lasting 480k miles before needing a total rebuild. An average of 75 cents per mile should net about $25k per year. Is there another way to save more money or make more? I can easily drive for 80 cents a mile and make very good money. And so can any other driver. There's no cargo van out there who's driving for 1.80 a mile on any descent mileage. I can function on less than 30 a day on food. The amount of discipline isn’t hard to achieve and knowing what you need to keep your self going nutrition wise. But to sit idle for aiming for a particular cost per mile for a long time is just ridiculous. I’ve learned a ton of pointers from you Andre and from other expeditors to make in in the industry. It’s not easy but it’s completely achievable. Keep up the good work. I hope one day I can work along side with you in Expediting. I’m just on the other side of the Cascades north of Everett.
