In the Emmy Award-winning miniseries Lonesome Dove, the unforgettable character of Augustus McCrae (Robert Duvall) visits his sweetheart and first love, Clara Allen (Angelica Huston), at her Nebraska home with his companions, Woodrow Call (Tommy Lee Jones), Lorena Wood (Diane Lane), and Newt Dobbs (Ricky Schroeder). Gus bids her a sad goodbye as he rides off into the sunset and to his fate.

Clara heard talk from the back and stopped dead on the stairs, for there was no doubt who was talking. The chord of memory that had been weakly struck by the sight of the horsemen resounded through her suddenly like an organ note. No sound in the world could have made her happier, for she heard the voice of Augustus McCrae, a voice like no other. He sounded exactly as he always had-hearing his voice so unexpectedly after sixteen years caused her eyes to fill. The sound took the years away. She stood on the stairs in momentary agitation, uncertain for a second as to when it was, or where she was, so much did it remind her of other times…
--Larry McMurtry's (Lonesome) Dove Novel
Lonesome Dove is a 1985 Western novel by American writer Larry McMurtry. It is the first published book of the Lonesome Dove series and the third installment in the series chronologically. It was a bestseller and won the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. In 1989, it was adapted as a TV miniseries starring Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall, which won both critical and popular acclaim. McMurtry went on to write a sequel, Streets of Laredo (1993), and two prequels, Dead Man's Walk (1995) and Comanche Moon (1997), all of which were also adapted as TV series.
This six-hour miniseries, based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Larry McMurtry, revitalized both the miniseries and Western genres, both of which had been considered dead for several years. Lonesome Dove earned 18 Emmy nominations and inspired a pair of miniseries sequels as well as two attempts at an ongoing television series.

Even happy scenes were poignant and so incredibly sad..
Such a well made mini series Robert Duvall was so good. They were all good.
One of the greatest miniseries ever made. They don’t make them like this anymore.
THE greatest
The most powerful, memorial two-word line delivered in a movie. "Lorie darlin". It conveyed more than pages of script could do. Perfection.
I've read that, years later, whenever Duvall and Lane would cross paths, he would greet her with, "Lorie darlin." (Or maybe Hello, Lorie darlin'"?)
Please tell me how anything can be better than that.
I'd never left that woman even though she lived in Nebraska.
Wonderful state, love the place.
Go Huskers❤
Even if your best friend was woodrow and you had lorie darling? Powerful statement to think you’d stay in a Nebraska with that
Damn horse trader, when hims so dumb….
Hope you have read the book or this won’t make a damn lick of sense
Very memorable scenes from a very memorable series, thankyou

Im listening to the audiobook right now. Almost to the end. Incredible storytelling and character arcs.
