Know the material. AKA, Know 4000 years of history and every in and out detail of the subject matter. That is your best weapon. Don't memorize facts, memorize concepts. Critical thinking to the max.

I just listened to one of your origin stories about being a substitute in HS. I totally relate. I was tapped to teach 8th grade earth science and it quickly evolved into mayhem, especially 5th hour. The prinicpal probably hated me for sending so many students to his office. Now, I am just a substitute again, working on my PTK and Chemistry. Thank you so much for your insights and stories and your beautiful smile. Also...I did give treats, but now it's stickers!

Without a doubt, I've seen one of the test makers prep questions on the actual exam in I'm 99 % sure the same format. Definitely focus on those problems. This is my second attempt at the math portion of EC-6 and I'm hoping to pass it this time around (fingers crossed).

May you please help me find Praxis for North Carolina Elementary Education practice/blueprint?? Thank you!
It looks like for NC you only have to take the Praxis Elementary Math 7813. I could be wrong, so please check. That math subtest is part of a larger exam--the 7811. However, according to your state, you only have to take the math portion. You can sign up for them individually.

I got a 200 on my praxis for Social Studies (ets even sent me a certificate), but now i have to take the MTEL and it's been revised with a lot of workd history content i've never studied. I'm feeling very intimidated by the exam and since i'm working now, i dont have a lot of time to learn all this new content. I hope your suggestions help me target the best way yo study.
Focus on targeted study methods like practice tests and leveraging online resources or study groups for efficient learning. Prioritize the topics where you feel less confident and break them down into manageable chunks. You've got this! 🙂

What would you say to a high schooler (like me) wanting to get into education? I don't know which way to go to become a superintendent but also get into state curriculum, Could you help me?
Hi There,
I am thrilled you want to go into education. That is awesome. First I would focus on becoming a teacher. To be a superintendent, you will first need to be a teacher, then an administrator (assistant principal) then a building principal. To lead an entire district will require you to have lots of different experiences from the classroom all the way up to the district office. You'll also need some degrees. Here's what you'll need:
A bachelor's degree from a 4 year university - This does not have to be in teaching. However, it sounds like this is what you want to do, so you can major in education and get your degree in that.
A master's degree in educational leadership - To become an assistant principal and later a principal, you'll need to have a masters from a certified leadership program. You can do this while teaching. And you can take it one step at a time.
A doctorate in educational leadership - This comes MUCH later after you've had some experience. With the doctorate, you will gain the academic experience coupled with the real-life experience needed to lead a district as a superintendent.
I worked in curriculum, and it was one of the BEST jobs I had in education. This was my path:
Bachelor's from Florida State in English - I thought I wanted to be a lawyer. That didn't work out. I bartended instead LOL. I did that for a long time after college not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. It's ok to not know exactly what you want to be. Take chances and try new things.
I got a job as a substitute teacher just to see if I even wanted to be a teacher. Turns out, I loved it, got certified, and got a full-time teaching job.
As I taught, I worked on my master's and specialist degree in educational leadership. Three years into teaching, I had the opportunity to work at the district office in curriculum. This prepared me for my assistant principal job, which came next.
Finished my ed leadership degree and became an assistant principal. This was an amazing job too.
Quit public education to start my own company using everything I learned in my career in education. This is what I do now.
This is a really long response, but I was so excited about your interest that I had to take a deep dive. I also have a new book called Teach: A Survival Guide for New Educators. It's not impossible. You can do it. That is a very tough test. So much content and a lot of it is outdated, unfortunately. I believe in you.
