    Hello.
    I was taught that phonemic awareness is the most advanced skill in the phonological awareness continuum, whereas you stated that phonemic awareness comes first. Wondering if this was a mistake or if you could explain.

    • @KathleenJasperEdD
      @KathleenJasperEdD  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. Phonemic awareness is a more nuanced skill than phonological awareness. For example, breaking up a the word track by onset and rime is less nuanced than breaking it up by individual sounds. But I’m always careful in saying which skill comes first. For example, breaking up the word bat using phonemic awareness (b-a-t) may come before other skills when using simple words. While it’s easier to explain skills in a linear fashion, rarely are they acquired linearly.
      But yes you are correct that phonemic awareness can be more complex than phonological awareness, depending on the words and sounds we are using. Thanks for watching 😊

    I’ve tried your backwards method, but start running out of time, because I eventually end up reading the whole question again.

    Hi Kathleen,
    I’m Hugo. I’m really struggling with praxis 5857 PE. I have failed at multiple attempts. My problem is that I haven’t found accurate test study material. What I’ve studied and what shows up in the exam are not congruent. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

      We understand how frustrating it can be to struggle with an exam, especially when you've put in the effort to study but still find discrepancies between what you've prepared for and what appears on the test. Here are some steps you can take to improve your chances of success:
      Review Exam Content: Take a close look at the exam's blueprint and specifications. This will give you a clear understanding of what topics to be covered in the exam.
      Utilize Multiple Resources: Don't rely solely on one source for study materials. Explore different textbooks, online resources, practice exams, and review courses that cover the material relevant to your exam. This will give you a broader understanding of the subject matter and increase your chances of encountering questions similar to those on the exam.
      Seek Advice from Others: Reach out to classmates, teachers, or professionals who have successfully passed the exam. They may be able to provide valuable insights into what study materials were most helpful for them and offer tips for effective studying.
      Practice, Practice, Practice: Practice is key to success on any exam. Work through as many practice problems and questions as you can find, paying close attention to the types of questions and the format of the exam. This will help familiarize you with the material and build confidence in your ability to tackle similar questions on the actual exam.
      Stay Positive and Persistent: Exam preparation is a process, and setbacks are a natural part of learning. Stay positive, stay persistent, and don't get discouraged by past failures. Use each attempt as an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and adjust your study strategy accordingly.
      Keep focused and determined, and you'll achieve success in your endeavors. Good luck!

    I enjoyed your segment on Reading Foundational skills. I found one discrepancy in the video. You use the word track for an example using it as a syllable exercise. Track has one syllable not four and to use it as a onset and rime it would be: oneset: tr and rime: ack. I would have used the word exercise or baby as an example to help with understanding the phonological awareness piece for test takers. I knew where you were going with it but track was not a good example.

    • @KathleenJasperEdD
      @KathleenJasperEdD  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, to clarify, I did not break “track” up into syllables. I broke it up into individual sounds: t-r-a-ck. There are 4 sounds in the word “track.” It is a phonemic awareness exercise. You can review this at min 4:19. In fact, I only mention syllables once when I use the word “peanut” (2 syllables) later in the video.
      Phonemic awareness involves breaking words up by individual sounds. Thanks for watching.
