    Another tip that I have learned to consume less energy at my home is to charge all my electronics at work. I know it sounds very cheap and silly but it helps!

      It makes sense if that device is in stand by regime or if electricity is actually going through it (phone charger). But it makes no sense if you have a casual lamp with on/off switch.

      I knew the TV was up to no good -- and more than meets the eye! (ha ha) -- I heard a theory once about how much electricity it takes to turn the light on vs to how much it takes to keep them on, say, if you're going in and out of a room, say, every few minutes. Anyone know about this?

    • @truecrimelover2022
      @truecrimelover2022 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bohospacechic5149 yes but according to mr. Electricity website with the cdl and led light bulbs it's not a big deal because within a few seconds you have paid for it. It used to be a few minutes with the old bulbs though esp. the higher watt ones.

    I hardly use my oven,but when I turn it off I open the oven door & let it heat my apartment ☺

      Eek. Unless they're the kind that float in water I'd be so nervous about fire safety. I could only do that if I had the floating candles, and then one main one that I would carry around with me so I can make sure nothing catches or it doesn't get knocked over by the cat or something.

    Bright light sometimes bothers me in the evening, so I sometimes use my salt lamp or selenite lamp. And they only use a nite light bulb. My salt lamp has an adjustable dimmer on it to and I love that! EVERYTHING in my house runs on electricity. I don't watch TV. I miss long day light hours in the fall & winter. I charge my cell phone in the car when I can.

    You should buy a portable washer and dryer. They're very small and are about $150 on Amazon. They're energy efficient and will save you more money not having to go to the laundry Mat

    • @Kyraann.

    • @chiefsmoketheprophet
      @chiefsmoketheprophet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kyraann. that sucks because really the portable ones just plug into a regular outlet. And then you could just store them in a closet, they are that compact. They're not like the conventional Washer and dryers in the laundry Mat with all the hookups. Anyway I hope whatever you decide works for you. Definitely look into them they're super cool and convenient. I really enjoy your content. Btw.

      Thank you 💚 I honestly never owned a big tv and my mom was always frugal when it came to TVs as well so when we were kids we always had those small TVs that people usually pass down to us. I really don’t miss it all. I just purchased a laptop to do better editing on my videos and that’s kinda it what I use it for ( no internet connection) I’ve learned fast by realizing I did it want to live my life borrowing money off of people and always being broke. Now I’m so use to my life style that idk where I would be if I hadn’t change.

    Where I live in Australia, electricity is very expensive, there is no off peak rates, it gets super hot in summer (35-40°c, around 95-104°f), super cold in winter, especially at night of course (0-3°c, about 32-37°f) and insulation is HORRENDOUS (no double, let alone triple glazed windows, thin walls, gaps in doors and windows...) so for 2 people, being mindful of our electricity consumption and with gas stove, we pay anywhere from 230$ to 300$ a quarter. All your suggestions are really good. I don't know if our ceiling lights are energy efficient, but we can't change them. A good thing here is that most plugs have a switch on them, so we switch everything off (not the fridge of course, like you said), even the washer. I think it's the same thing as unplugging, right???

    • @pelagio999
      @pelagio999 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      $230-300 a quarter?! That’s pretty good. I am from Arizona, USA. I know many many people that have an average MONTHLY bill of $200-300 for electricity. Our average bill in their winter was around $60 and summer is around $150-200 per month.

    • @miyounova
      @miyounova 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pelagio999 yeah but that's because they crank up their ac all the time! And also, we (2 of us) probably live in what you guys would consider a small place in the US. We kept our bill "low" because over the summer if it was 30 or under, we wouldn't turn on the ac and if it was over 30, we would only put on the ac to 28 (i know some idiots who would put it on 21, but then, you need a sweater in the house in summer!). Over the dead of winter, we only turned it on for 15-20 min at night in our bedroom only, which is small, or if even with jumpers, gloves, scarves, hats etc we were still cold. And thankfully, our place is not huge. I wish we didn't have an open plan kitchen/living and radiators, just like in Europe, so much better.

  • @roxmdr
    @roxmdr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Unfortunately I live in South Texas, ac is kind of a necessity 😩 but I am totally changing bulbs and unplugging anything not in use. What’s y’all opinion on power strips? Use one and turn off works he same as unplugging or am I being ignorant?

    I have put a lot of my appliances on a power strip so I can just shut off the power strip and cut the power to all of them. I did use to unplug my tv at night, but it started having problems and we we contacted the manufacturer they told us the TV needed to stay plugged in. Weird, but it stopped having problems when we stopped unplugging it. I wonder why on earth would them make it to stay plugged in.

    Do you literally unplug things or just switch the socket off? I’m puzzled to understand why you’d need to unplug everything when you could simply switch the actual socket itself off, or maybe you can’t do that in the US?

    • @Kyraann.
      @Kyraann.  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yea we can’t switch the socket off in the us like that :( I honestly think I would need my landlords permission for that. The wire box is in the basement locked.

    • @ExLibris-Alys
      @ExLibris-Alys 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Kyra Ann OK. Plug sockets in the UK have a little switch on them so to turn things off you’d simply do it that way. You don’t need to unplug things or to use the mains switch. I’m really surprised you don’t have them there. I always turn everything off at the plug. And I recharge my phone on my commute because the buses here have usb plug points so that you can do that, just like most coffee shops, so I never pay to charge my phone 😁. I’m fairly new to your channel and you have some good ideas Kyra 👍🏻
