    This thing worked like a charm. Located my EVAP leak in less than a minute once I got it hooked up. I was contemplating buying a $100 part in hopes it would fix my problem. After hooking this up and finding my leak I was glad to see it wasn’t the part I was going to buy but instead a $10 water separator. This thing saved me a ton of time and money.

    Just failed a SMOG TEST in Cali with an 0456, 0457 small leak codes. Mechanic wants $165 just to do the diagnostic test, a smoke test. There are a lot of smoke generators on youtube, but yours is, by far, the most professional. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with the public.

    Just a add on to this set up is adding a propane regulator they'll drop your air compressor PSI to a safe 1 psi because a lot of systems will get messed up with anything over 2psi

    • @HedoBum

      The most obvious reason I found is to make sure your oil level isn't too low. Sucker gets hot without enough oil on the wick and it does dissipate quickly.

    • @lavachemist
      @lavachemist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HedoBum It would be pretty easy to make a sight glass for monitoring the oil level, especially on the taller version of the Mr. Fusion. It might be a worthy addition if you're worried about that.

    Thanks for the vid. Made myself one today out of ABS. One thing I did do differently was using some liquid tape on the bolts (outside of plastic) so if it slid for some reason it couldn't ground out the to body or engine. I know there is a fuse in there also to protect against that but I figured it wouldn't hurt and I already owned the liquid tape.

    New subscriber here. I've seen videos in the past of people making their own smoke tester. Your's is the best and easiest by far. It never crossed my mind to use plastic plumbing and run voltage through it. It just seems counter intuitive but you proved me wrong since it's very hard plastic and very little voltage running through it. I'm running to Lowes tomorrow and to my local vape shop.

    BREW2L How are you doing! I went to Lowe’s today to go find all the parts on your video receipt and I found all the parts. After I found all the parts I went back to the pvc plumbing section cause I realized I grabbed the wrong Flange and in the process of doing that a worker asks me if I need help with anything and I told him what I was going to do with all the parts from your receipt and he said that it would all melt in seconds because pvc can’t tolerate heat, I ended up putting all the parts back and not buying anything because I don’t have knowledge about this project like you do, if you can please make another video regarding this matter talking about what a wick or heat of any kind can do to pvc I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! :)

    Good video. I added a shutoff valve, 0.5 PSI propane regulator (CAMCO Olympian 59013 from Amazon) and ring end 12VDC power cables with battery clamps. Made power through-bolt seals from high-temp silicon rubber. Mine leaked smoke from around the cap, which I resolved by smearing the threads with plumbers putty and reinstalling.

    • @timtucker7762
      @timtucker7762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So 0.5 PSI is the input pressure? Would it work with no input air, maybe just plugging the input? I wonder if it would build enough pressure on it's own?

    • @marshallartz3194
      @marshallartz3194 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@timtucker7762 0.5 psi was recommended in several different build videos, etc. to not overpressure the car hoses. It seemed to work so I went with it vs. reinventing the wheel. No idea if it's optimal. Smoke does dribble out on it's own without pressure, but IMO pressurization is better to speed the process. I fed a 12V plug-in pool toy inflator nozzle into the pressure regulator. I've even seen designs where people pressurize by blowing into the hose.

    I built this yesterday, but I had to order the resistance wire. I tried using mig wire, but count get the right resistance.
    Did you just use one strand of the 26 gauge stainless wire or was it doubled up?

  • @91rss
    @91rss 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    we took a strip of paper 1 1 /2 wide and the diameter of the pipe, then divided it into 4 marks, , wrapped the paper around the pipe then used those marks to locate the holes

    Thanks for this “Mr. Fusion” build! I just finished piecing mine together, looks identical to your mini fusion. The hardest part was waiting on the 26 gauge wire from amazon, since no one in town kept it in stock.
    Keep up the good work!

    Made my own worked well aside from being unable to find coil wire.
    Any suggestions on alternatives?
    I ended up using an old soldering iron in place of the wire works well but not very portable.

    2 ohms is to hot. It ignites the wick. Use 4.5 ohms and it will smoke and not catch fire. Great video

      @@davidspomer5091 more ohms requires more power, but seeing as the supply us fixed, theoretically it will allow less current to pass.
