The highest honor of humanity to the noble, humble Shaolin monk. To protect the weak and see injustice addressed. Cultivate one inside out with spirituality. Truly Chinese civilization is great and admirable.

When I saw the dents in the floor in that special room made a tear come out bcuz it shows how humans can surpass themselves if they try

Yes, we can transcend our weaknesses and our ignorance if we try.
When the student is ready the teacher appears.
      Good luck.

The question is, whether the authors differ between "learning" and "mastering" a skill to an efficient use. You can learn kung-fu in two weeks the same way you can learn how to speak a new language, perform a surgery, paint an impressionist picture, or dance ballet. All of them in 2 weeks. Be realistic.

These are the questions. 🗿 True King Fu does not stay still, it either lessens or increases.

In 2 week you can bearly learn 10% from geometry, 10% it's a lot, more to it to master that 10%. Fast learning happens only if you trained yourself for fast learning.

As a disciple of Grandmaster Wong Jack Man, I’ve been teaching Shaolin Kung Fu since 1984. Every weapon form and traditional open hand form requires at least six months to learn by even the smartest people I’ve trained in the last 40 years. My beginner program is over one year long before you can even start a weapon.

Sorry, I couldn't resist 😆 All jokes aside and with all due respect I watched this with pure interest and fascination with other cultures and their martial arts but even Buddah has a sense of humor! Many comments like yours are very interesting and some are just funny! That's why I read the comments!

I practiced Kung Fu for 10 yrs on the West Coast of the usa. It gave me a good foundation in the art. But the way it is taught at its origin in the Shaolin Temple is quite different. The intensity that your body must come to endure, acceptance of the pain, accuracy in the forms was all something that comes to you over time and practice. When I was starting out in the art I had to block punches to my face by the teacher coming at lightening speed. And I had no experience. I realized that I had to meet the challenge to learn the art. You do fall in love with Kung Fu as it is one of the deepest teachings about the self that you can practice. Jason was recognized by his masters. Surviving two wks of training at the Shaolin temple is a stellar accomplishment!

Wow this was great. I've seen dozens of videos of the Shaolin Temple and the monks training but it was great to see Jason Lee go there and his experience and impressions. I love that he kept a good spirit and even laughed while also knowing the dangers and difficulties. To me I think if you cannot laugh or don't enjoy it then you should find something else to do. I only practice a small percent of what they do and that's ok for me. When I was younger I was flexible and practiced more. But I enjoy the movements and the forms.
This video gave me inspiration to work and train harder. I have great respect for the Shaolin Monks. I am doing an online Self Mastery class with Shaolin Monk Shifu Shi Heng Yi and it's challenging but also fun.
I have done quite a bit of spiritual studies and that is the end goal. Physical training can really help build discipline but I'm more a free flowing Taoist and like to keep things a bit on the lighter side. It was funny to watch Jason try to keep up with the little younger monk! I give him a ton of credit and enjoyed this video immensely.

I kind of like kung fu it's just like karate each martial art is powerful in its own way and it's on right it's all about improvement the way how you make it work it's all about improvement it only works when you improve and try to do it better and try to make it so I can save your life and all depends you just got to be careful and not to make a terrible mistake because of one mistake could lead to your downfall or death but it's how you use it that counts and how they can save your life that matters and count take your pick for any other martial arts brother Kung Fu it's incredible and amazing but it's not the only martial art there are many more that can unlock the power 🥋☯️👊💪😉👍👊☯️🥋

The guy learned 2 forms in 2 weeks and relearned how to center his chi again. Everyone beaking you can't learn kung fu in 2 weeks. Been doing martial arts for 41 years now. Trained with lots of masters just a black belt in Shaolin Kenpo, and a black belt in jujitsu, Japanese not brazilian. This guy has trained in bruce lee's style for 20 years. Do you think that they had to teach him horse stance, no he knew it just not their way. My grand master taught me there are only so many ways to throw a kick or punch so after a 2rd or 4th degree its forms and whatever your style says about chi.
Could I teach a martial artist 2 new forms in 2 weeks training 3-4 hours in the morning and then the same in the afternoon, ya i better be. can I teach them to master it no. Some of you people take yourself way to seriously.

What I don't understand is how he's not flexible. Even in something as basic as taekwondo (when I was younger) we practiced stretching exercises for flexibility and yes my back would be against the wall and someone would lift my leg to touch the wall or as far as I could go. Then we did different stretches on the floor for flexibility. Basic head to knee stretches. I do the stretches even today.

No you can't. This is like saying someone can learn the piano in 1 week. Sure you might learn the basics and be able to play a simple melody if you practice hard, but you won't be able to play complex piano music or understand the instrument fully in that short space of time. It takes a lot of practice and years of work.
I studied Wing Chun Kung Fu for over 6 months and was still a beginner level even after a weekly training, 2 hours for 3 days a week.
In a week, you can expect to learn a lot of the basics of close combat, such as correct posture for balance and strength, basic hand blocks of straight punches, thumb and finger grips for breaking holds, closed and open hand strikes and elbow strikes, basic front and side kicks and use of the knee. Basically you''ll pick enough to be useful in some basic self-defensive situations if you practice hard for a week those few things.
However you won''t be proficient in Kung Fu against someone else who does Kung Fu or any martial art. You won't be able to use Kung Fu in a fluid effortless way in just one week. You could get to intermediary level if you're REALLY dedicated and were able to practice 8 hours a day 7 days a week with a good mentor and were a quick learner but for most people it's just not possible that would take months not a week. For most people who can only afford or have access to a mentor 1-2 hours, 2 or 3 times a week so it's going to take YEARS before you become anything close to proficient.
Mastering Kung Fu to the level you can readily apply and use it proficiently against a capable opponent requires years of weekly pracice and constant sparring training. With the master I practiced under, the senior students who achieved black belt level took around 5+ years.

How can a person learn a technique, form, etc., under the tutelage of these drill sergeants. I've been in many martial art schools, and a teacher who uses fear to instruct is a bad teacher. Seems like a bunch of sadists forcing students into situations they are not ready to handle. Kung-fu takes time. Its subtleties are not easy to learn. I suppose the Monastery markets itself as a tough obstacle course, so people feel accomplished. There's a saying in MA: hard styles are for hard heads.

2 week? Without other bassic you have before is no way! The very basic need 2 years only to learn how to breathing (chiqung) n increase stamina n body elastisity, your first fist/technic after those 2 years is how to defence not attack , you ll got kicked n beaten a lot !! You will hit a sea corral with your bare punch n kick coconut tree for 2 months with bare foot.

Real Kung Fu is yoga.
    One with God.
    One with the Buddha.
    One with Dharma.
Kung Fu is much more than fighting.

In the world of fighting the answer is yes are you already protecting and defending yourself when you've dodged counter and put the enemy down the term Kung Fu means skill learned over time instinctively know that if I man's intent is to kill you you're should be to get to him first so the answer is yes as long as you protect and defend and use your entire body as a weapon just let go of goofy woke confuse notions and you can do all things always put God first and always be on this path of justice and that will make you a Shaolin and always put Jesus is Lord and savior and always protect and defend the temple honor the path of righteousness the man makes the art the art doesn't make the man

That old TV series has perverted the meaning of the Chinese words Kung fu forever. They really mean great skill and are not a martial art style at all. Shaolin does have a style of martial art and it takes "great skill" and yet millions of American TV viewers now think there is a particular style called Kung Fu, there is not. In fact, Chinese martial arts include hundreds of different styles from many different sources and all of them require "great skill."
Ironically, there have been several "Kung fu" practitioners who have entered MMA contests and have lost horribly. Essentially what we know of Shaolin Kung Fu is not a combat sport in any meaningful way. It is a beautiful artform, no doubt, just not a combat sport.
