Yes I’ve had multiple compression injuries working construction. They weren’t too severe at the time but as I age I feel the pain and tension a lot more. I have been using a traction device for about a year. Simply amazing…after 10 minutes of hanging out I can literally fall asleep most times still with the head suspended.…so relaxing. Thanks Dr. Berg.

My most sincere THANK YOU, Dr. Berg. I have been a Martial Arts Instructor (Shotokan Karate) for 51 Years and have practiced the biomechanics of falling to the ground safely (Ukemi Waza) throughout those years. Nonetheless, after decades of this process I have developed a forward head posture due to falling to the ground literally thousands of times. What has occurred is something like an "Over Use" sports injury. Your kind info on the home therapy techniques have been quite helpful to me, and once again You have my heartfelt Thank You.

The C curve neck is responsible for so many functions and once you lose it, it can become a disease process if not reversed. I have successfully reversed mine through diligent exercises, traction, strengthening, and working on posture. I had a tailbone injury as a kid falling down the stairs and knocking the wind out of me, whiplash from car accident as a teenager and a head forward posture from my job as an adult. Add to that i'm very tall and lanky, weak connective tissue and developed cervical radiculopathy, stenosis, pinched nerve, elevated heart rate, insomnia, gastroparesis, brain fog, anxiety, and lost the use of my hands with searing burning pain, could not make fist, or turn my head, for about four years at the end of it. No wonder they call it "the arc of life." it really is because now that I have gotten my curve back, I have gotten my life back. I could barely move and function. It's possible if anyone is struggling. After my doctor saw my x-ray (arthritis at every level in the neck, military straight, bone spurs in the front) he said it was inevitable and from the aging process. I didn't accept that and went to work. The hard part was figuring out all the symptoms originated from the neck, and the process of reversal relieved my symptoms almost immediately when I started teh work on my neck.

    • @vincentvega3747
      @vincentvega3747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Glad to hear. Did you verify thru an x-ray that you got your curve back? I am going thru something very similar. How long did it take for you to feel a difference? If possible would it be OK with you if we could talk for a bit? Thx you very much for sharing your story.

    • @lalabyelulu4021

@@vincentvega3747 Sure. It took the better part of a year, but the last three months have been the game changer because I can finally look down for long periods of time without recreating symptoms. I noticed an improvement right away in some of the symptoms like the hand pain, but the neck did get worse for awhile because the therapy caused a lot of inflammation. My neck was basically cement. That was last year around this time. But I have full motion now, no neck pain or flares and the above symptoms are gone aside from some hand tingling and numbness occasionally. I also changed my diet adding animal protein and fat, cutting out all sugar to give it the best healing. Unfortunately my doc will not give an after x-ray because of the radiation risk, but I look better visually as far as posture goes. I don't have a dip at the bottom of the C spine anymore and I have built up the ligament and muscles around it so I no longer look slumped over and can hold my head up. Also my jaw mechanics are back to normal (I had the TMJ dysfunction/locked jaw), and tinnitus is gone; so this confirms in my mind that I have the correct mechanics even without x-ray. Hope this helps.

Dr B …. Absolutely no injuries however 38 years at a desk job creating a straight neck. Bad pain in neck/shoulders so I don’t let anyone touch or massage that area. Also had carpal tunnel in both wrists. Neck pain would travel down through T3&4. At a gym they gave me traction while sitting up- was wonderful! Was taught neck stretches-helps tremendously. I push my chin down to my chest while trying to hold my neck up.
After about 45 minutes the pain (like a vicious migraine up back of my skull) subsides.

    Had all af it.
At the age of six I fell down from a roof and landed on my head.
In the mid twenties I was skiing down a slope in the forest (clearcut) and the only possible way to stop was to sit down in the snow. Exactly there, there was a cut branch stuck in the frozen ground that hit my tailbone. My tailbone broke and the end of it is now pointing 90 degrees forward. (I had to grab the roof of the car and lift myself out of it ...)
In the end of my twenties I was involved in a (light) car accident.
Thank you for providing this! I´ll give it a shot!

I actually found out last year that my neck wasn't straight after one night sleeping on the couch and waking up with a painful and stiff neck and grinding sounds, yikes! I'm a healthy 37 year old lady and take care of my body pretty much . My doctor asked if I had any trauma and I really don't remember any tho I do remember fainting once a while when I was menstruating when young but not until last year did I feel any pain on my neck . Second bout of neck pain came again 2 weeks ago, it was terrible, I couldn't even jog as I usually do. I was recommended physiotherapy last year to align my neck but with covid things just slowed down here in Italy. I was told its "cervicale" in Italian and this video really helps me understand. I fell out of a 2nd story window when I was 18 months old and landed on my head. I actually landed on the cellar door and bounced off into the yard. My head swelled dramatically, my eyes bulged out and they thought I was going to die, or at the very least, I would have severe brain damage. My parents were pastoring a church at the time. They called for an all night prayer meeting and by the next morning, the biggest majority of the injuries were gone. They called a psychiatrist to come in later that day, and he said that I was completely normal-no lasting effects from the injuries. However, I do have the forward head posture and would've love to permanently correct it. Thank you so much, Dr. Berg, for all that you do.

Interesting. I was taught that a forward head posture was the result of neck extensors that are too long and stretched and short and tight neck flexors. That the extensors needed to be strengthend and the flexors needed to be stretched in order to correct this. With forward rounded shoulders (which you often see with forward head posture) I recommend stretching the pecs and the anterior deltoids while strengthening the middle trapezium.

Absolutely agree. I like this guy but I don't agree with his rounding of the back stretching at all. Any rounding or arching under weight can cause terrible injury which is why deadlifters or squatters in training under load will sometimes use back braces.

I have had both Dr. Berg from a really bad car accident in 1981. I crushed my hip & pelvis; was in traction for 4-5 weeks and had pins and screws placed in my left hip. I still limp from that accident. I also was knocked unconscious, my head hit the steering wheel and possibly the dash (my car was thrown done 30 to 60 or greater feet) so I had a terrible concussion 🤕. I couldn’t remember anything but pulling out of the drive way. I’ve been suffering from bad to now, after my brain aneurysm in 2010, to severe migraines where now I wear a pain patch to keep me out of the ER constantly!!!!! I’m now experiencing severe neck pain after my pain doctor injected ?? Into my lower neck(occipital bone area). Ever since then which had been about 6 months I’ve experienced severe right side occipital neck pain with increasing migraines to bad headaches with back pain, dizziness, insomnia (terrible-now I’m on Trazodone for insomnia (150 mg/night). I take Tizanidine for my back pain/spasms.
So, I fit right into this brain stem (parasympathetic nerve system injury) - rest/digest well that’s me!!!!! I have developed scoliosis in my upper neck from using a mobile device after my brain aneurysm/stroke 2010 to assist my walking. I still till today walk with a cane for unsteady gait!! I’m a retired disabled critical care RN of 26 years.

For me: I had a car accident in my teens, thankfully it wasn't serious for me, as I haven't had head injuries, only the glass shattered on my arms, which they recovered later, but it was frightening as hell, and I did feel this sense of dizziness as I left the car, which almost turned upside down, but luckily balanced back in the last second, and I managed to open the door and escape, as a car hit us from the side, on my way to school, unfortunately for the poor driver; who was in a senior age, and hit his head on the glass, his face was covered all over with blood, and he lost consciousness, part of the reasons why I was screaming in terror at that moment 😅 thinking that he's dead, luckily he woke up in hospital later. but after that he was more like depressed and had back probs, and eventually quit working because of his health conditions, and returning to posture: I think I had a bad one in my teen days, yet when I ask my husband if I still have this prob now he says it's fine. Thanks for the info Dr Berg 😊

Dr. Berg -- Thank You! Very nice video! I have mild kyphosis-scoliosis and in New York City, I have seen Dr. Gary Deutchman for a long time. Also I have practiced Iyengar Yoga for Spine Care. Head-Neck translation excersises have been done far less then back bending poses. It's been a while I no longer live in NYC, and no longer have the quality of spine care I had before. My forward neck has increased with age -- but I have continued practiced what taught -- but what you point out has gotten my curiosity -- since I was told not to bend forward, even though I sometimes continue practicing head translation exercises. After twice had Covid, I began to have ringing in the ears, and when I sometimes listen to (international folk -classical or instrumental and lyrical --never hard rock or loud) music in EarPods, when I lay down, the music sounds less louder and without bass, than when I stand and walk -- the music sounds bolder and fuller.

This is so helpful and important. I need to listen to and watch this at least twice. I have been dealing with chronic migraines for years and have been getting NUCCA treatments for the last year to deal with my displaced C1 C2 that has been rotated out of alignment for probably many years.
Watching this video reminded that - DUH - I had a head injury when I was a kid! I was probably about 8, and I dived into the swimming pool doing a back flip, and bonked my head and came out of the pool with blood streaming down my face and was rushed to the emergency room and got stitches. It has NEVER occurred to me until watching this video that I might have had long term neck issues due to that injury! When you're a kid, it seems so innocent and your body seems so resilient that you take it for granted that your body heals automatically.
Anyway, I'm going to follow some of these suggestions. I've been going to sleep without a pillow for years and doing things like neck traction for years. But anyway, I really just appreciate this video so much.
