    Thank you for the suggestions. Here in New Mexico we make “Sun Tea”. You take a gallon jug with cold water and put your tea bags in it. Set it out in the sun for the day and at the end of the day you’ll have tea to drink.

    Thanks Lynn! Love what you're doing! People cant afford to turn a blind eye to whats going on. Shelves are empty and prices are thru the ruff! Not to mention gas prices. Have to be proactive! 😊

    I asked my HVAC technician, and he confirmed that because I have a gas water heater, I will still have hot water even when the electricity goes out. So while the water may be as hot as I would like it to be, I could still have hot(ish) water for instant soups, coffee, etc.

    Hi Lynn. Good video with important info. Think I will take a second look at what we have. We are on a well so if our power goes out, we don't have water so we have planned for that scenario. In the event the power is out for days, my hubby has made us a rocket stove that we could use to heat our food. For a moment, forget the food ... have to heat the water for the instant coffee 😊 Have a great weekend and take care.

    Canned beef, corned beef, corned beef hash, smoked oysters, smoked ham, Spam (great cold, sliced thin on crackers with or without cheese), yams, seasoned collards, mixed chopped greens, asparagus, baked beans, pork and beans, carrots, jar or canned mushrooms, hominy, all beans are good cold right out of the cans. I myself love the yams cold, it's like a dessert to me. Don't forget pudding..as long as you have water you can mix with powdered milk and make instant pudding....instant coffee with cold water gives you cold coffee. So many things can be eaten cold out of cans & packages that we hardly consider until we really start thinking about it.
    Great video Lynn.. thanks for sharing

    Good ideas Lynn. For those that have a gas stove, you can light the burners with a match, but the oven doesn't really work because of the electronic thermostat. Perhaps for the coffee drinkers you might think of picking up a percolator or drip coffee pot. Check Walmart in the camping area for ones they have. You could also boil water in a pot for tea etc. Also a kettle is handy to have to put on the stove. For those that have propane grills, make sure you have extra propane. Y'all have a Blessed day.

      Lol I have a propane stove and both burners and oven work but that's probably because it was made in 1959.

      After a tornado some years back wiped out the electricity, my husband heated water on the gas grill, set my Mr. Coffee as usual and poured the water over the filter and coffee. Worked perfectly. We then kept it warm on the grill.

    You can use the liquid from the can veggies to help rehydrate the rice and pasta...saves on water and adds flavor to the meal. I bought a single burner butane stove years ago, and have used it a few times. I went to a few Thrift Stores last week and scored a Brand New Still in the box double burner Coleman propane stove for only $19.00...I was grinning like it was Christmas morning!!!

    I'm in AZ desert in the summer the water comes out of the cold side at about 100 degrees. I would go to Wal-Mart and in the camping section I would buy a one burner stove that runs on either propane or butane and heat my food. Now if you are hiding and don't want anyone to smell your cooking then it may be best to eat it cold.

    Wonderful video Lynn! I myself always keep canned fruits like pineapple and mandarin oranges. Jerky and nuts. Lots of peanut butter crackers cereal and granola bars. I keep a stock of tuna and canned soups for my bf. I make sure to always have at least a few cases extra of bottled water. Always trying to build up on my stockpile a little at a time! I always keep pasta and rice but had no idea you could dehydrate them! Very interesting. 😁 Have a fantastic weekend thank you for sharing this information with everyone! 💙🙏🥫🍎🍌🍞👍

      Cheap foil pan with the catering heat cans and a metal baking rack can make a cheap catering style stove. When the Dollar Tree was still $1, it was a cheap cooking option for power outages. Now it is $1.25 for each item.
      You would put the can heat in the foil pan and top with a baking rack so you xan put a pan on the rack to cook with it.

    Great video. Funny you mention seniors hitting transformers. We just had a senior hit our electrical box and knock power out to the whole building. Luckily power was only out for about 10 hours. I definitely need to get a solar generator for running my freezers.

    I had a single burner butane stove (someone borrowed and never returned). That would be an inexpensive option. When I moved to Florida that was my only cooking for several months while I remodeled the kitchen.

    I used to live in Oklahoma and we had no power for 9 days but we did have hot water because we had a very old water heater with a pilot light. That made it easy to have a lot of food that was warm. I haven't gone without power here in Minnesota for more than 2 hours so far but I always keep food that I could eat without power.

    Oh Lynn... my teenage grandson eats the small cans of Campbells chicken noodle soup all the time cold. I don't know how he does it but he really likes it that way. Of course alot of times you can heat water with a camp stove or on your Propane grill. We twice were stuck without electricity for 7-10 days Once because of a winter ice storm/blizzard and once because of Hurricaine winds that came all the way up to Indiana from the Gulf Coast... crazy.

    Who knew minute rice is just dehydrated rice! I just drug my dehydrator out for these times were in & I'm gonna try making it. I was thinking you could make a cold salad with some of those canned chick peas, artichoke hearts & zesty Italian dressing. Thanks, Lynn :)

    • @allthinghomewithlynn
      @allthinghomewithlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That salad sounds delicious. I never knew myself the dehydrated race was minute rice and I was glad to find that out because I need to start working on using up some of the phrase I have stored and just turned it into minute rice. Across-the-board it would be a whole lot easier for me when I come home from work to have rice made in five minutes.

    Great video! I, too, have been curious about dehydrating pasta and rice. Do you cook it first, then dehydrate it? I also didn’t know you could rehydrate it in cold water. I thought rehydrating always had to be with hot water.

    • @allthinghomewithlynn
      @allthinghomewithlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it takes a little longer with cold water but it can be done. Yes you cook your race in your pasta as normal and once it’s done you put it in the dehydrator.

  • @tlrice72
    @tlrice72 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello 👋 You cook the pasta & rice first then dehydrate to make instant? I heard if you have crackers or cereal that went stale, to put them in the dehydrator to bring them back to life. I’m trying that next box of stale crackers. I ❤️ Walgreens!

    • @allthinghomewithlynn
      @allthinghomewithlynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you cook the rice and pasta first and then dehydrate it. They recommend and I agree elbow macaroni is the best. The ziti and bowtie etc. take a long time to dehydrate and a long time to rehydrate.

    I like the microwaveable rice pouches; the alternative directions show you can also place the unopened pouch upright in near-boiling water to reheat. Likewise, the canned items could also be placed in the same pot of water to heat through along with the rice. Still useful for gas stoves as well as barbecue pits and grated fire pits in the backyard. Be sure to remove the label from the can, wash the outside of the can, then vent the can before placing it in the water, before you heat it up. Canning jar tongs are shaped well for retrieving the can after removing the pot from the heat. And, save that water for tea or instant coffee!
