A gloriously detailed description on how to install your own headset. Sidekick Mia was unable to film today's showing. Email jrabikeshop@gmail.com for Utah's only 3 day Wasatch Bike Tour.
Great video. I look forward to the fulfillment of the much awaited "Build Your Bike" series. Thanks again and best regards to sidekick Mia. I hope we see her in the upcoming lessons.
Just shoving them in there dry? I've always greased headset cups before setting them into the frame. I do believe this can remedy some creaking before it happens.
The FSA ORBIT MX headsets look to be a very good design with pretty good quality for a reasonable cost. A good upgrade if you have a ball bearing and cage headset...😃
great vid, really helpfull because i took my forks off and all the bearings, crown parts and all that fell out. and i had no idea how to put it back in 😂
I have a rocky mountain 2011 element 70 msl frame and a 2017 fox float grip tapered fork on the way. I,m looking for a headset that would fit on the frame since the head tube also have tapered corners. fsa or any good brand
Joe N Many times you have to buy the upper and lower separate. You need to measure your head tube inner dimensions and find the upper and lower cups that will fit.
This is my first road th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
It seems like that.. I need to do this modification too. Merida on 2014 had straight head tubes I bought a hardtail late 2014 model and then on 2015 they changed it (or I think so)... :/ So now with a new fork we have to add some more money to that conversion. Bike cost 600$ suspension (a good one and mod) will cost higher that the frame itself... Bike industries theese days :D But it's for safety reasons I'm doing that.. I can't go MTBing on Suntours anymore....
Probably a stupid question, but can I put my headset into the frame with a vise? Sorry if thats a dumb question, but I haven't install headsets before.
Vladi1295.....that is exactly what I do....but I have a woodworking large bench vise....I cannot think of an engineering vise that would be big enough ....I like the `threaded studding ` idea too...as mentioned above.
I won’t tell you how I did mine 😬 oh what the heck some grease a hammer and a block of wood ! To impatient to wait for my mates tool works fine just makes you cringe.
6 year's later and you still just helped someone out i appreciate this alot
Please help me, I don't have a crown race
What do u mean
@@athrowawayaccount9817 I said i don't have a crown race in my headset. You get it?

Man this video seems really cheery... like it has 2014 vibe.... oh damn. That’s some good quality for 2014.
Are you installing a tapered fork on a straight head tube?

how would you remove a top and bottom cup?
David Ishmael cup remover tool,it's like a split tube at the ends, you hit it with a hammer to pop the cups out
Just get it!
Probably a stupid question, but can I put my headset into the frame with a vise?
Sorry if thats a dumb question, but I haven't install headsets before.
no...just get some threaded bar and a couple big washers and 2 nuts...a lot safer and a lot less of a chance to scratch parts than the wise

@@moonte7933 what about reaming and facing...isn't it needed?
