2008 Mercedes Benz C300 W204 ESL Fault Fixed with an Emulator
**DISCONNECT the car’s negative battery lead FIRST before starting your repair!**
Tools used:
Ratchet wrench
10mm socket
E12 torx socket (steering column frame)
T45 torx screw (steering column joint)
13mm socket (nut securing the ESL)
Trim removal tool (cluster trim)
T20 torx bit (dashboard cluster)
T10 torx bit (ESL PCB board)
2 Flathead screw drivers (EIS bezel)
Phillips screw driver (hood latch)
Long nosed pliers (ESL housing pins)
EIS bezel removal tool (eBay)
ESL Pin removal tool (eBay)
Parts used:
*ESL Motor (eBay)
*Programmed Emulator (This service requires your EIS module & 1 working key)

Great tutorial that explains why today I just paid over $1700 to the MB dealership for this job. My regular great technician explained that because of theft the dealer has it where they’re only able to repair my GLK ‘11 truck.🤦🏾♀️
To those of you who swapped the motor, and the ESL is still not responding, I had to file down the axleshaft on the motor, it was too long and hit the ESL housing which caused the motor to jam. I noticed when I put my new motor in that it was a tight fit, and the axle wouldnt spin freely, it should be supereasy to spin with your fingers, thats how you know if its jammed or not. Might even be why the ESL in this video didnt work after you swapped the motor out.
We probably fried the micro chip reassembling the ESL. We’re glad plan B worked. Thanks for your input. Cheers! 🙂

had this on my e250 lucky the esl was off saves time don,t need to strip all down got the new esl main dealers and green key will need id and reg docments

I'm currently facing the same problem. I remove the steering lock open it, changed the motor; but by mistake, I broke the capacitor which is on the PCB. I purchased the capacitor with these specs: 47 UF, 35 V. and then made soldering over the board. and still, the lock isn't working. Do you have any advice to move on !!
I’m afraid you might have fried your ESL / ELV during the process. You might consider finding a service provider in your area (e.g. eBay) who sells and provide a plug-and-play system. For my area I’ved used this provider’s link on eBay. I just sent my EIS and 1 original key to the provider.

I was in contact with Mercedes repair shop , he offer me a new ESL and workshop key to be used to configure it with $ 500... do you think using the emulator is better??
and do you think changing the capacitor requires reprogramming for the PCB... Iam pretty sure the board is not fried
@@mohammedaqrabawi7133Yes. I opted for the least headache which is a plug-n-play using that provider on eBay (cost: $119.99 plus shipping). I believe that provider is from the east coast. It took about a week and a half to get my programmed plug-n-play emulator module plus my EIS & Key🙂. Its worth the wait and no issues. Cheers!👌
Hello mate. Mine is still fully functional and it’s not locked. I need to remove the ESL to send for programming as it throws intermittent codes.
Is there any way I can remove the ESL without taking the steering wheel off? I am trying to see how you removed yours.

Yes, I did not remove my steering wheel in this procedure. I was able removed the ESL by disconnecting the steering column/rack (held by 4 bolts) [1:00 vid time line] from the steering knuckle (held by 1 bolt) [0:44 vid time line]. After loosening the steering column and pulling it forward carefully I was able to remove the tachometer cluster to get access to the EIS for removal. Hope this helps mate. Cheers!🙂
@@mekanik3787 so to take the els out you don't have to take the steering wheel off? You only have to take the wheel and speedo out when you do the esi?

If it's not locked there is no need to remove it. They do not need the old lock for programming, only the EIS and a key as the OP states.

Hello I have the same issue on my 2012 c250 my steering wheel isn’t locked I tapped under the steering column and was able to get it started my question is what do I need to repair it I’d like to get an emulator

Hi.. sir if the ignition switch goes to lock position ...if I fix a new steering lock ....then also fix new ignition switch or not .......then it wants key programming or not
If you mean your EIS is locked up and you can’t turn your EIS using your original Benz key then your EIS is faulty. Fixing your steering lock issue using an emulator you will need a specialist to program it to your Benz. Cheers!

@@mekanik3787 I ran into an issue. My steering wheel is locked, but I can manually move it (it's not the automatic moving one). Do you have a tutorial in mind or tips to remove the ESL? I heard it's hard to do with a locked steering wheel
@@KalebRowland These youtube links might help you. Removing Benz steering column is fairly straight forward but if your ESL is stuck on lock, you might need to further search on youtube on how to remove an ESL from the steering column. Cheers!
