    Love my PDPs. Got one for EDC and one for USPSA/PCSL. I don't understand the whole "snappy" argument. I've never felt that my PDPs are any more snappy than any other brand. I have other pistols (other brands) that have a 'snappier' recoil impulse (subjective). Maybe I'm just more used to the PDPs and Walther's in general since I've been shooting that brand for 20+ years since I had a first gen P99. I switched from Glock due to the ergonomics of the Walthers and, while I have tried a bunch of other brands over the years, I keep coming back to my Walthers. They're just comfortable and 'feel like home'.
    It doesn't really matter what brand one chooses as long as it works for that person and they practice with it (a lot). Walthers are what work for me.

    I have 2 PDPs - a modified 5” FSI take my classes with and a modified PDP Pro
    It does have slightly more recoil than most of my other 9mm but it also has some of the best ergonomics, the best trigger and it’s as reliable as any (except maybe my 509T) so I usually run those

    Actually selling my pdp compact and got a Glock 45. Started with glocks and tried to get away from them but nothing shoots as well. My pdp compact was just so flippy Put a brass backstrap and a 15lb spring and it didn’t help at all. Everything about the gun is perfect except for how flippy it is. I’m sure the full size 5” isn’t as bad but doubt it shoots better than a Glock IMO

    The push feel reminds me of 320s and my x5 i use in competition. After years of use im definitely used to it but letting friends shoot it who use shadow 2s, or glock things it definitely suprises them

    ZRT guide rod definitely helps with the recoil impulse not by significant amount but enough.
    I would love a steel frame version

    My friend has over 25k rounds through his and he runs it hard and from what he told me he maybe had 1 or 2 malfunctions related to cheap European ammo. Wear and tear after so many rounds is also not as bad as I thought it would be.

  • @swiftaudi

    I agree the recoil impulse seems to snap up. I find it hard to control.

  • @TheRancor53
    @TheRancor53 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The snap is real, perception is from the tighter chamber, though a velocity test on GB guns found it was only about 30 fps or so faster out of the barrel-some reviewers have run a Mantis on one and it weirdly returns to zero faster than Glocks. Good pistol but so many choices now we’re spoiled on which brand to pick. Likewise institutionalized on Glocks 😅

    • @sunnycat69
      @sunnycat69 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It turn standard ammo to +p lol That's what I would account the kick for as well. Compared to a glock with plus p

  • @SpecTrain
    @SpecTrain ปีที่แล้ว

    My perception exactly. I don't have thousands of rounds through them, maybe I could figure it out, but for me it does measurably make me shoot slower. Like shooting sub .15 splits the gun just isn't fully back to zero yet.

  • @jeffreydeloach5023
    @jeffreydeloach5023 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So if I am gonna get back into competitive shooting after years, would you recommend the Glock 34 gen5 or PDP? (I have opportunity to get each)

    Swapped to the ZRT guide rod with the 15lb spring, and I feel like I am not waiting on the 4" to come back as much. I just wish the grip texture was better on the front strap.

    I've always felt like they've had the best factory trigger and to think they actually have a performance trigger is a hard improvement to come up with.

    • @S1deshowRob
      @S1deshowRob ปีที่แล้ว

      The canik mete/rival series actually has a better factory trigger believe it or not. At my local matches they’re even more common than CZs these days. If you get the chance definitely try one out if you like the PDP. I actually find the rival less flippy than the PDP also but that might just be subjective

    • @MinuteBracelet
      @MinuteBracelet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@S1deshowRobi used both the rival and PDP and have to agree that if you are optimizing for gaming, Rival is the way to go. I actually had the Rival first, and the Rival is a lot better than the PDP out of the box for competition and comes with a bunch of goodies to get you going fast - I ended up getting a PDP because I was so impressed with the Rival that I wanted another Walther pattern gun, and got the PDP as a “duty”/self defense oriented version of the same gun. The grip on a PDP is more positive but i dont think the Rival is inherently less snappy than the PDP, it just feels that way because being comp oriented the rival has a much lighter recoil spring than the PDP, which has a really heavy recoil spring stock for reliability reasons I assume.

    • @S1deshowRob
      @S1deshowRob ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MinuteBracelet that might be it, the rival also has a stainless steel guide rod while the walther uses a polymer one

    • @MinuteBracelet
      @MinuteBracelet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@S1deshowRob the guide rod itself usually doesnt matter except for weight distribution, its just the spring really

      @@MinuteBracelet oh I see, I do like how the rival’s takedown levers protrude a little bit also, I use it as a gas pedal and it works pretty well for recoil control

    I’ve only owned one Walther and it was one of only two guns I’ve ever completely given up on (the other was a Kahr). I know every manufacturer makes a lemon once in a while but usually I can sort it out without sending it back to the factory. I know I should probably try another one because so many shooters rave about them but once bitten twice shy I guess.

    • @boomee78

      What walther was it?

    • @nbonner75
      @nbonner75 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@boomee78 it was an early P22 series (I don’t remember the exact model). My guess is that it wasn’t even manufactured by Walther but was probably made under license by some other company and sold under the Walther brand. Like I said, I probably owe them another try (it’s been more than 20 years).

    I totally agree with the recoil impulse. For newer or less skilled shooters I think it's a deal breaker, I find it harder to control and thus for self defense I wouldn't choose it though I enjoy shooting it due to its nice trigger and ergos.
