She did alot in terms of being The first Blue Eyed Soul Singer in Pop. To many she kicked the door open for alot of Blue Eyed Soul Singers in Europe. Amy Winehouse (RIP), Duffy, Natasha Bedingfield, Adele, Ruthanne and Nadine Coyle of Girls Aloud. She created controversy when she refused to play a Segregated Audience in South Africa and then she also went to The BBC (British Broadcasting Company) to get them to do a Special called Ready Steady Go: The Sounds Of Motown. She did the first Interracial Duet with Martha & The Vandellas with Wishin' & Hopin'. One of her associates was Patricia Cole Arnold aka PP Arnold whose first big break was as an Ikette.

Dusty is my FAVORITE female singer that was part of the "BRITISH INVASION" that started after the Beatles hit the US for the first time. I have all her albums that she ever recorded LOVE her voice, her style, she was SO unique. She has a lot of songs that will just make you cry. One of my favorites of hers is "I ONLY WANT TO BE WITH YOU," one of her first hits in the U.S. in 1964, She also performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. Beautiful lady, who sadly passed away a few years ago. Check out more of her songs and also the one she did with the PET SHOP BOYS "What Have I Done to Deserve This,"

Dusty Springfield was a hit in Europe, but her brother was a songwriter and he made this song. It went to No.1 on the hit parade in the UK and the USA. When she toured the US they thought she was a Southern Black Girl, because they had heard her on the radio. A White Girl from England never entered their mind. Full of Gospel and Soul.

Dusty Springfield was an English pop music singer who was heavily influenced by American r&b and Motown music. Her album 'Dusty in Memphis' is one of my favorites of all time. She had a hit comeback in the 1980s with the group the Pet Shop Boys. They did some collaborations, including the song 'What Have I Done to Deserve This? It's one of my favorite songs of the 80s and Dusty Springfield's voice adds a soulful touch. She had a lot of popular songs in the 1960s and 1970s, as well.

She was a huge Tamla Motown fan and was influential in introducing TM artists to UK audiences. She was deported from South Africa for playing to a non segregated audience, anti racist in actions as well as words. I believe she also played a part in getting Led Zeppelin signed to Atlantic Records (her american label at the time) on the basis that she knew John Paul Jones from him working as a session musician for her, maybe apocryphal but I believe it, She was just one of the best.

Not many people know that Dusty wasn't English, she was Irish. In fact her real name was Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien and both of her parents were of Irish descent. She was influenced by R&B and Motown but she was versatile enough to perform ballads, French chanson, country and jazz as well. She's one of the most notorious artists of the British Invasion in the mid-60's.

She was a pop-folk singer influenced by country music- went to Nashville to record, turned the dial on her radio and heard soul music. Her next tour in Europe had US soul artists as support- introducing the UK pop audience to soul music. She worked small halls to black audiences in the US to get the music right. She was much loved by the soul divas- she got them on to her TV show in England- making them household names in the UK over night. She was of Irish stock.

Why shocked? Britain has produced phenomenal amazing musical talent. You would be shocked I’m sure by many American musicians who have been heavily influenced by the UK and vice versa.

@@farrahwalker6222 Oh, I agree! Think new listeners would be shocked because she sings with a bluesy R&B style, which is American

English singers like Dusty and Tom Jones had that "soul" sound. She had a powerful voice no matter what kind of song she did. She grew on me and became my favorite British female singer. Back in the day [they label us "Old School" - what's that mean? I'm still going to school? lol] many in my generation didn't care what your ethnicity was...we just enjoyed the music, [we all liked the Supremes, the Beatles, etc] while others....eh....there wasn't all this separatism like today with 8,000 channels specializing, putting people in categories...labeled boxes musically...AM radio generally played all that was available, [FM was just getting started, in stereo] if they weren't owned by some specialized paranoid business people....Motown, British artists, Beach boys, some country crossover songs, and in hindsight, some really bad stuff too lol [Surfin' Bird?-hahaha] ...it certainly wasn't a perfect world but trying to get better....but it was not so separated musically like today...corporate controlled radio networks with talking heads galore spewing hate 24/7.......we didn't have that, the FCC had regulations that helped prevent that....the music was the thing....country music liked to separate itself from those stations at the time though...and some "adult" with the Sinatra stuff... today it's all divide and conquer rather than let's get together, even musically...

AGREE WITH YOU 100% and this is coming from a woman who grew up listening to the radio in the '50s as a child and the '60s as a teen, back when music wasn't divided and put into boxes like you said. I MISS those times and the music we heard in those days. Today can't compare with radio at that time
