*3:11* Bret referred to no one attempting to see if his eyes could track movements. Thank goodness Bret survived a stroke and so much more. He mentioned in his book, "My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling," that while he was in the ICU just after he had his stroke, he has "blurry memories" of his first wife Julie and his children around him and of his youngest son Blade tearfully saying, "You're the best dad that ever was!" It was very sad how his career ended yet his children could have lost their dad. Now Bret has grandchildren. He's a survivor and an inspiration.

I guess this interview was before his stroke. He still seems relatively happy enough at this point, despite the screw job/Owen’s death, and the career ending injury. The stroke was the final nail in his coffin of happiness. Poor guy.

A year later in October of 1997 right before Bret signed with WCW he asked Vince for the last time to tell him that if he stays what his storylines will be. Vince told him you’ll lose to HBK at Survivor Series, lose to him again at the December PPV, lose to him again at Royal Rumble, then you’ll beat him on Raw next night for the championship, and then you’ll lose the championship at WrestleMania 14 to Austin. Bret saw 4 PPV losses in a row and understood By offering him such a crappy storyline Vince was forcing him out.

Goldberg most certainly did NOT end Bret's career. Bret screwed Bret. Had he taken a month or two off his career would have continued on. It was the repeated concussions over the next two weeks that ended his career. Bill Goldbert did NOT make Bret wrestle those matches. He got powerbombed and chokeslammed multiple times over the next couple of weeks. He admits in this interview that he had concussions in each of those matches. Thats 110% on him. I had a nasty concussion when I was in high school, and I had to take 3 days of rest at home, and then no sports or any serious physical activity for a week (and I certainly wouldn't have been cleared for anything like wrestling or football for at least a month). That was in the mid 80's. By the mid 90's they knew more about concussions and any doctor would have told Bret to take a minimum of a month off. He chose not to see a doctor sooner. He chose to wrestle those matches when he KNEW he had a concussion. Hell, after the 2nd concussion he still may have been able to come back, but he needed at least two months off at that point. And he kept wrestling and getting further concussions. Bret screwed Bret.

He probably could have sued, they didn’t attend to him after the match? That’s fucking terrible, then again independent contractors

This video is probably close to 20 years old. He hadn’t gotten over it YET. I wouldn’t have either.

I’m glad he’s living his best life and making money. Athletes get concussions. It sucks. I’m no expert and certainly I’m not Bret. That said a wrestler retiring months, and hardcore matches after a kick. Doesn’t exactly scream the kick was the culprit. Being “the best there ever was” for a wrestler with 0 charisma in a promotion that is pushing characters over talent, would be a better reason to retire, in my opinion. It is unfortunate that his concussion didn’t get him over like the screw job, and the stroke finished it.
