While I agree the narration for the starting hand isn’t necessary I still generally like it when you show the starting hand and was wondering why it wasn’t there for game two.
Comments about the new video format: I appreciate putting the ad BETWEEN games and not in the middle of one. I would like to see the hands of the second game. Instant replay of the big plays at the end of the video are nice. Nice job, good games 👍
Ashani's final life totals point to a player who knows their limits exactly and pushes wins through precisions. Fun games and great plays from everyone. Congrats to Alani!
Opponents misplayed heavily though, casting 1 cmc knowing they had dispel was still on the top. Then casting into the dispel knowing when it was in hand. It for sure was a winning position and some luck as well.
Ashani was on point with that counterbalance! Interacting when he needed to and being smart with his plays! I love seeing Ashani on the table and his decks and gameplay don't dissapoint!
Welcome to the death throes of Marwyn as a Cedh commander. Mono-G was already struggling, but I feel like the first game perfectly exemplifies how backbreaking bowmasters is to the archetype. It was already struggling before its printing, now it doesn’t have a chance.
It's not just the Bowmasters, there's also so many mid game draw engines that tempo the game out too. That's the issue with Bowmasters as it creates two in-game dynamics that put a stax player further behind . I would run cards like Skyclave Apparition or Broadside Bombardiers if they are in your colors for removal to it. Skyclave is currently better but with the new thrull from Murders of Karlov, that probably will change.
Why ashani plays no mindcrank on his list for the combo with bloodchief ascension since he already playing it? Im new on cedh and might be missing something simple idk
At least Flash is no longer in the format, there was nothing worse in cEDH than losing to Protean Hulk before you even got to take your first turn of the game.
Counterbalance technically triggers on every spell cast. For the sake of the narration, we don't announce it if the player chooses to ignore the trigger.
With food chain and squee was the skirk necessary, couldn’t he recast korvold over and over to sac the squee to also draw cards or is it just cleaner if you have a way to get skirk
Korvold is a mandatory draw. A different payoff was absolutely necessary there since the other players had more life points than Ashani had cards in library. Korvold certainly can draw an arbitrarily large number of cards once this combo is established, but given the Mayhem Devil and Skirk Prospector were right there there was no need to spend the extra time.
I dont think Ashani needed his Skirk Prospector to win Game 2. After you have infinite jund mana you can just: cast Sqee, cast Korvold, sac Squee, ping with Mayhem Devil, exile Korvold to Food Chain, repeat
uhhh... weird and demeaning "little bro" comment aside, I was kinda implying that the (disliked) bow masters design was helpful in resolving a play pattern I dislike even more
there goes another bowmaster game, where the player drawing cards uses a 2nd player's orcish bowmaster to control a third player and win the game. bowmaster players are tools. bring back hullbreacher.
@@emerson685 Yep, ye olde ancient hypothetical, they also likely could have just countered them, but their presence is still universally game changing. The dies to removal argument stands as the weakest counterpoint still. I honestly WISH they had removal or a counter for either that first game, but it ain't always like that.

always wonder this as well.

Also, an intro of "Playing with power, powerful cards, powerful formats" makes the video come to life. Need to bring that back

That first game so oppressive with counterbalance and rystic study
I mean that happens sometimes in cEDH lol

Yeah, I hate how Bowmasters sunsetting tymna/creature decks also largely kills stax, causing the meta to go full-tilt turbo.

Nice all-in from Ashani, that counterbalance was on point with all the spells that mattered.
That turn 1 catch of Mindbreak Trap on One Ring in game 2 was sickkkk
Ashani, this is why you get targeted regardless of who you're playing with lol
That second deck looked cool as hell
Ashani is just too good
If Ashani had a Jersey id full on heckin wear it when I played to support my favorite wizard chess player. That dude BALLS.
there are two arcane signets at alanas han?
Almost certainly an editting error
Cheating with power 🫡 (was probably just a mis edit)
Playing with Power: Powerful cards, powerful formats

thoracle boracle
At least Flash is no longer in the format, there was nothing worse in cEDH than losing to Protean Hulk before you even got to take your first turn of the game.
Respectfully, I don't know how you see a game with this much interaction going on and walk away with "but boring because Thoracle"
Counterbalance hitting a trickbind to counter a Dockside is just *chef's kiss* perfection
I fucking love watching Korvold go off. That's one of the coolest commanders imo.
Two Arcane Signets in RogSi's opening hand? That's the dream 😂
I was wondering what 2 signets were doing
Hang on.. 2 arcane signets for alana???
Definitely some weird decisions in this one I would’ve played rhystic study before counter, balance, and I don’t think Peter’s opening hand was a keep
Anyone know where Peters lotr playmat is from? I cant seem to find it online.
I’m confused, does the counterbalance not trigger on 2:58 when orchis bowmaster is flashed?
Counterbalance technically triggers on every spell cast. For the sake of the narration, we don't announce it if the player chooses to ignore the trigger.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG ah! Thank you for clarifying!
Peter’s mat is amazing
Alana seems to just keep having The One Ring 😂
Elves? My favorite!
Too bad they didn't get to do anything with how quickly bowmasters shuts them down

Why does Alana target Ashani so much with all the Bowmater triggers?
He was about to win
I dont think Ashani needed his Skirk Prospector to win Game 2.
After you have infinite jund mana you can just:
cast Sqee, cast Korvold, sac Squee, ping with Mayhem Devil, exile Korvold to Food Chain, repeat
Wait.... you'd deck yourself drawing with the Korvold triggers wouldn't you?
Yes
lol Ashani = collecting those scalps
Why give the wishclaw to ashani!? LOL!😅
Idk is killing Necro before cleanup was good ngl
Ayy i see the Lilith! Love me some digimon
“Ashani is playing Korvald” -- Ya’ll fucked.
Day 3 of asking for Derevi "my precious" combo deck rather than stax to see if it stands a chance at the CEDH table
Gotta love that double arcane signet in Alana's opening haha
Everyone certainly loves to hate bowmasters, but truthfully I disliked the games spent feeding 3 rhystics a SIGNIFICANT amount more.
Can we just hate both?
it's not a challenge to see which card is more hateable little bro
uhhh... weird and demeaning "little bro" comment aside, I was kinda implying that the (disliked) bow masters design was helpful in resolving a play pattern I dislike even more
As an Inalla player, I felt that turn 1 Mindbreak Trap in game 2. It feels so bad
Ashaniiiiiiiiiiii you're amazing!!!
Bow masters is busted
The One Ring and Bowmasters are so miserable. Who let those through development?
i hope to god bowmasters is banned soon
Grow up
because i don't like a magic card?@@LateTeens709

Wow 2 good games! Ashani was killing it! Counterbalance was awesome! And as always food chain wins games!
What a boring ending to an interesting first game.

I'll die on this hill: BAN Rhystic Study and Orcish Bowmasters.
Why?
Or play removal

Bowmaster is only good in cedh. It's pretty easy to play around in casual.
