K’rrik has some of the most absurd openings. Love it.
Hey Mike my son is a huge fan of yours. Anyway over the past few minutes of watching you play game 3 he’s gotten much better at playing baseball (he plays in the 11-13 year old division). I just wanted to stop by and thank you for teaching him how to throw so well.
In all seriousness, I made a mistake earlier in the game that cost me the win too - but it might be harder to spot if you’re not paying extra close attention.
Starting after I cast K’rrik on my turn 2, I should have:
- not have used Cut Down. This was very silly on my part, since I was weirdly obsessed with casting something on each of my opponents turn in the name of ‘efficiency’. This is even after I had already convinced Mike not to attack me by threatening to block with Dockside and reanimate it again! It’s easy to forget sometimes that even in cEDH, using your words and politics can be super effective.
- cast deadly rollick on Mike’s end step targeting Korvold. This would have prevented Ashani from being able to respond with Dualcaster
- cast Entomb on Nick’s end step, burying Gray Merchant of Asphodel
At this point, on my turn 3, I would still be at 27 life to start since I would have cast Entomb instead of Cut Down. Next, I would:
- activate Wishclaw fetching Overeager apprentice. Note that this is a ritual that is a creature spell, meaning it doesn’t use up my deafening silence spell for the turn. (I can now pretty simply assemble the Gary / Chainer loop)
- activate apprentice for BBB, sacrificing it and discarding one of the irrelevant cards in my hand.
- cast Chainer and activate him, bringing back Gary.
- activate Chainer, bringing back apprentice.
- activate apprentice for another BBB, cast Final Parting (my one noncreature spell for the turn) with anything going to hand and Dimir House Guard going to the yard.
- activate Chainer reanimating DHG
- sacrifice Gary to DHG and then activate Chainer to bring him back, completing the set up of the loop and having just enough life to spare!!!
For any of you up and coming K’rrik pilots out there, while the deck can be blisteringly fast, it is also surprisingly resilient. This could have and should have been a turn 3 win even powering through a turn 1 deafening silence and going last!
I had a great time with Nick, Mike, and Ashani - it’s always a treat playing with the wonderful folks at PWP, and am happy that reviewing the game has made me a better K’rrik pilot and Magic player. Cheers all!
- Peter

Appreciate the breakdown, I love your deck and the creativity it enables
White bordered Sacrifice?
The opening hand of that game was very nice, I was sad to see the rolick came back at you! Thanks for the write up Peter, I always enjoy seeing you play K’rrik here with PWP.
That last game had all the feels of my offline casual playgroup. "Dude, you're going to alpha strike Brad and Chad? Kyle will just kill you on his turn." "Yeah, but I get to kill TWO of you bastards. Kyle only gets to kill ONE!"
I mean he probably should've Swordsed the Jetmir
Double points for killing 2 players, so that means you win LOL
@@bryantan4228 He could have casted it again right? Honestly, with that much stax pieces, korvold couldnt do much, should probably let Ashani live and killed Nick.
@@guilhermebasso9219 He could. But that's 6 less tokens from Tilonalli's Summoner. 6 4/1 double striking tokens is a lot of damage
As a non blue player myself, this is one of my favorite videos of PWP ever. Some of my favorite decks in the format represented and I really wanna give Jetmir a try even more now.
I see K’rrik I click like. I love mah boy!
I'm on board...no post. My favorite commander
I see Ashani's Korvold I click like. I love mah dragon!
Saaaaaame. K'rrik is one of my favorite decks to see go off.
Peter is such a master pilot too
I love those Krrik stormy turns
What a steal in game 3! Never thought I’d see something I saw in Standard years ago come to pass in cEDH
That last swords to plowshares the very last game felt like a punt. I’m curious why he was concerned with ranger captain since the board staxed out. And he knew what could kill him. He shouldn’t be worried about anything but Elesh Norn or Jetmir which swords could interact with on cast… make them have deflecting swat. & if they tapped out they couldn’t activate it bc Thalias/glowrider & cannonist etc.
Just seems not great.
I did not realize that Vilis would trigger off reanimate, but I guess the way the card is worded Villis is on the table when the life loss happens - I guess I've always been playing that wrong
Yeah, reanimate + vilis = draw 8 cards
Now this is pod racing! Can we please see more of these "no partners, no blue" match-ups in the future?! What a crazy set of games!
After watching magic arcanium, the ugly sweater contest has a whole new meaning in this video specifically
Man, that K'rrik game was BRRRRRRRRR!!
Love to see non-Thoracle wins! Loving the K'rrik sleeves btw
Love me a good Culling Ritual into Naus win!
Love this kriik deck. I joined a local league before I had to have back surgery and I’ve won 5 of 6 games with it so far. It’s awesome.
Sardian Avenger showing up! He puts in WORK in my Isshin deck, those mana rocks come back to bite folks pretty hard.
JETMIR!!! LETS GOOOO. I FIEND ALL THE JETMIR VIDEOS
I am so proud that you call it "Sardine Avenger" just like me.
I love saw in half, such a cool card and Gary was the first creature I thought of when I pulled that card lol
Tiolani's in Jetmir is clever tech. nice!
When Introducing Nick's Hand the Mana Confluence turned into A Chromatic Star.
I love Ashani's games!
Holy cow that game 2! Nice! ❤❤❤
Lmao that ending! Hahaha
6:05 i believe in cleanup you first discard to handsize, then afterwards until end of turn effects end.
You are correct, and it was missed. MTG rules are tricky!
Tillonalli's Summoner is now going in my Jetmir deck
I've been waiting years for tiolanis summoner to find it's home. I was so hyped when he kept it.
I like Peter sleeves they came from scourge alters
The joke was good. I just wish there was a "commence laughter please" or a laugh track for that. Good laugh and thank you for seeing yourself out but come back. We need the main channel voice please.
Damn, the sardine avenger hits hard
I’m so interested as to why Jetmir wasn’t the obvious target for swords. It would have at least slowed down Nick a little bit
Sometimes in the moment, it can be hard to see the best target when the board is gunked up with so many options.
I felt giving that wish claw to Peter was very dangerojs
Tiulani summoner win. I love it
I definitely was getting tired of all tne Blue/partners. Great idea
Great video! Wish it was a bit longer though
Oops in that 3rd game. Had to removal and chose the wrong target lol.
Well I was gonna play my krrik deck and after seeing this I definitely am.
What type of sleeves did Krrik have and link for them? :D
Where do you guys get those little mana counters? They look very useful 😅
Finally, some good ol’ edh gameplay wait a minute oh god everyone is dead
The title gives me life
ITS TURN 2 PETER
At 8:55 Sanctum Prelate turns into a Glowrider for like 2 frames lol
Wow good eye!
At 6:41Peter and Mike should have both taken 2 damage from Sardian Avenger, right?
I don't think Sardian Avenger sees them being destroyed as it was also destroyed.
@@maxweisbard9454 idk blood artist effects see other creatures when a board wipe happens i imagine its the same with this case but idk I’m not a judge
I like the pass card 😅
Sans blue cedh?? lololol should be interesting to watch
I need more Masterpieces! Stop playin with me lol
♥
I figured one of these were going to be an Ashani win because there's little to no interaction. Dude crumbles against any type of responses since he's always going for broke.
Is that how grinding station works? It sees itself enter?
Yup. It's why some cards, like Emiel, the Blessed, specificy "Whenever *another* creature enters the battlefield..."
I’ve recently learned that you don’t need creatures on the board to cast twinflame because twinflame says “any number of creatures you control” and 0 is a valid option
Unfortunately if you check the rulings on twinflame you'll see that the number of targets of a strive spell don't change when copied, making that a mostly moot point.
@@Vulpir the gatherer ruling says this “If such a spell is copied, and the effect that copies the spell allows a player to choose new targets for the copy, the number of targets can't be changed. The player may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, the player can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).”
It’s confusing cuz it says you can’t change the targets if you copy it then immediately after it says you can change the targets
I guess logic answers that? If there are no targets on twinflame and it’s copied say by dualcaster mage, you can change the targets but if there are no targets to change then it wouldn’t do anything?
@jensenchase7774 correct. The total number of targets stays, but for any targets you have you can change what it's targeting.
6:00 Wouldn't the cards discarded not be exiled since Necropotence returns to Peter before the cleanup step?
The discard to hand size is the first thing that happens during the cleanup step, before "until end of turn" effects end. Therefore, it will create Necro triggers, which will still be there after control of Necro is lost.
@@DarkEinherjar TIL. Thanks for sharing :)
Face breaker should only have made 3 treasures I’m pretty sure. Unless there was a token doubler I missed on mikes side in game 3
Double strike
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG thank you! I didn’t remember seeing it till you mentioned this!
how is nick casting path on a duel caster on the stack?
I thought that permanents don't trigger themselves if a card etbs which shares card type with the respective permanent.
Because I read the rules, and Tireless Provisioner doens't trigger itself if it entered the battlefield and being also a land due to Ashaya.
I think that those etb-effects only trigger if that respective already is on the battlefield not triggering itself.
We had to look it up too! It's why there are cards that say "when another permanent enters...".
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG
Ahhh! So when the card says that whenever a permanent with another card type enters the battlefield and I change the types to match, does that card entering the battlefield right at the moment trigger itself then?
@@dimitriosdoulgeris4659 Yes, as long as the static ability that changes the ETBing card's type is there before it enters :)
Edit: to be exact, the static effect should be there *as* it enters. Ashaya will trigger a Lotus Cobra because of her own static, for example.
@@fnx.M
Thank you! That opens some new doors for some combos for my Ashaya list, now it's even faster.
6:50 Doesnt Peter die to the Sardian Avenger trigger on Grim Monolith?
Asahni did not take the 2 damage from Sheoldred in 6:04?
Does Grinding Station see itself entering? That doesn't sound right.
Yeah we had to look it up ourselves.
I *SAW* what you did there
can someone explain to me how he got 3 treasures off facebreaker?
Without another valid target for the Twinflame, in game 1, doesn't the game just end in a draw if no player can stop the loop of Dualcaster making another Twinflame to make another Dualcaster, etc?
bruh are those coins heavy that did not look pretty landing on the mana crypt
They are super light! We designed them ourselves! You can buy them at our store.
Well I love doomscrolling on e621 and I don't see you all on there...
…yet.
Wow no blue I's pretty cool...
I love seeing K’rrik lose. Goddamn I hate that card
Why the hell winota exiled captain last game???? Wtf
K'rrik is a crazy asf commander
Why did mike path his own captain
Ramp
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG i meant to say swords, the last move on game three when he left himself open
Am I the only K'RRIK player that doesn't like necropotence and Grim tutor?
Yes
Grim tutor is another 1mv tutor in K'rrik, that's literally insane. Necropotence is free, you don't have to pay 30 life and stifle your ability to use K'rrik, just use it for value, 10 cards is 10 cards
Maybe the people in my meta have become so scared of K'rrik that running necro puts even more of a target on me. It also cuts off the discard line that's so easy to set up.
Seven life for a tutor that whenever I put it on the stack K'rrik would get swords/pathed.
I've been mainly on K'rrik for over a year and cutting these two felt so nice.
@@wilfulbuckle13 to each their own, K'rrik loves to go faster and faster which is why it's hard to make it as a casual deck, I would happily switch to Necroing for 30 life with a swords/path on K'rrik on the stack or tutoring for a JL or other ramp spell to get K'rrik back out, or a value piece
Some absolutely amazing games on display.
I have Path to Exile'd my own creatures just to get a land drop once... you gotta do what you gotta do. 🥲
