My favorite part of this section is the clear thematic line of who survived vs who didn't. Everyone who fought against their fear survived, but those who ran died. The knight Azan, fought to protect others, Nina fought while embracing her own cowardice to survive, luca fought to protect herself and nina, gutt's group fought to protect themselves and casca, and farnese fought so she could make sense of the events the next day, ect. Guts may be The Struggler, but this section highlights the most important theme of berserk to me, life is about struggle, and to struggle and fight, even if its in a "shamefull" or "pathetic" manner, will bring you to the next day, will give you another chance to walk tomorrow and forge your own path, even in a world of darkness.
There's also the fact that the ones who died were the ones unintentionally seeking salvation from evil, those who ran into the tower of conviction instead of AWAY from it. Those who did run away came out with their lives intact, like the prostitutes from Luca's crew. Those people who ran into the tower were the ones who have been conditioned by the holy sea church to fear and rely on them, people seeking salvation instead of trying to save their own lives like you said. There's no paradise to escape to. In berserk, there's no god out there to save you, so you have to go and save yourself.
@MidnaBlues id slightly disagree. I generally agree with what your saying but id disagree on the "saving yourself" point. There were lots who didnt work to save themselves: nina, luka, casca, azan, ect. I think its less, saving youself, and more about taking action. Thats why nina is in this section. She diesnt have the strength yet to do anything, but she develops the ability to take action. Maybe im overthinking your words but i think framing it as saving yourself is a bit overly simplistic. I see the ability to take action, and the ability to help yourself as 2 different abilities. The first is based on an internal awareness and the second is based on an external awareness. But i think ive probably rambeled too much. Im going to bed now
@Alex-oj7be I was leaning more towards having any benevolent god out there to save them, to rely on a divine savior instead of saving themselves and relying on other mortal men.
If Gramps is wondering why Casca's drawn to Griffith, don't worry. It becomes very apparent why she's like this in quite literally the next few chapters.
Griffith coming back is still one of the most important moments in the story. I don't know how intentional it is but Griffith himself is in all essences an anti-Christ figure. His return will only spell doom to all those who fall under his wings. I think the old man is really going to enjoy what comes next in the biggest arc in all of Berserk. A lot of amusing twists and turns but also tragedy as is common place for Berserk. He is making a lot of progress in such a period of time. I really enjoy these longer form videos.
And so begins Berserk moving from Dark Fantasy to High Dark Fantasy. Along with this we get to witness Farnese go from villain to being one of the main characters.
While there are thematic elements in this arc, this one still feels mostly about moving the plot forward. So it feels like your dad doesn't have much to add other than describing events. But these next upcoming chapters are going to be really good for him to talk about, and give input about, like with the "Lost Children" having deeper meaning behind it. Can't wait!
The creator said at its core Berserk is a love story. I could see it with Guts and Casca. But I think its also Guts love of opposing something greater than himself and the journey to overcome that thing.
Yes I agree! I like that the “love” aspect doesn’t become cheesy, Berserk has a beautiful way of integrating it so seamlessly while also being fairly realistic about the difficulties of that concept
@@LinguiniP Magic is the vehicle used in the story to explain it but it's Guts' and the others love for her that gets them to that magic in the first place. Plus her own mental perception of Guts inside of her psyche literally joins the fight against her inner demons to help save her alongside Farnese and Shcierke.
I think dad is missing some important subtext. Both times we have seen the portal to hell open up we have seen a common pattern. Skullboy gets right to work and goes after the same particular member of the godhand. He goes after Brainiac.
I disagree about nina at 9:10. Nina is a coward but that doesnt not make her wise, in facts it's the opposite. Out of the thousands of people that dried in this battle, Nina's choices and who she befriended directly led to her survival. That seems pretty wise to me.
@@WeebMD_Podcast amazing pick, absolutely amazing, especially since it touches on buddhism and taoism, very stoked to see your father's perspective on it, it's up there with berserk for me as a manga and the art is on par if not better than berserk if you can believe it.
Another great vid... Seems like TikTok is going to stop its services in US, Are u going to shift to another platform? Also, will be waiting for the next few Arcs...
I love how Griffith reincarnates as, like... the received image of himself. He doesn't look like the real human being that we saw in the Golden Age. He looks like the beautiful storybook hero of Princess Charlotte's fantasies.
"He's more Fem than To" IS A WILD QUOTE FROM A MAN HIS AGE.
“GRIFFITH!!!” We all said it once
It has to be done on occasion 😂
@ for me it’s daily Lol!
I just said "What a son of a... " the moment i saw that thing in the title
"HES WAY MORE FEM THEN TOE"🗣🗣🗣
Underrated quote 😂
The only good thing about his is that he’s a femboy. Femboys are cool.

YES! I love ish Dad spent more time on that! I thought Luca’s speech about that was so good and seemed like an interesting topic to deep dive into!

Been waiting for this video for months . Finally Griffith returns
Can’t believe he came back this way 😭
May his Name not be mentioned is back.
Sadly 😭
i loved this arc and how the characters had a sort of happy ending.

Don’t spoil it for the man.
@0smos1sisnatural He doesn't read this, his daughter does.

great video. seeing opinion change on farnese is so fun, it's like experiencing reading it for the first time again myself
Yeah! I feel like Dad is coming around!!! Hope he completely changes his opinion on her in the future!!🙏🏼😊

15:48 What the fuck is it with Gramps predicting literally every story beat dozens of chapters early lmao, holy shit!
But it's wrong. Magic n shit saves her

god i’m so exited for the hill of swords chapter 😭😭😭
I like how your dad asserts his own headcanons so matter-of-factly, like "Shyster boy views Casca as the mother he never had"😂
Hahahah right! I was sitting behind the camera like “when did he say that?” 😂 but I’ll go with it 🤷🏻♀️ 😭
I was waiting for this
Glad we could deliver!
Griffith comes back and still gets more love from Casca meanwhile she hates Guts
Since Luca leaves and is out of the story, he’s going to be so happy/excited to see her again toward the end of the (original) series. I know I was.
I’m glad to hear she comes back! Dad and I love her! 😊

It truly is!
