As a Japanese person who growing up with berserk I really appreciate your perspective and likes of kentaro Miura works and I really like to see all the video you will make
I'm curious. Have you ever read the english translation of Berserk. If so, could you share some of the subtle social context and language that are lost in translation. We Western fans would love to know whatever we missed out on.
@ Interesting question, but I'm learning English too, and that's why I read manga in Japanese and English, but the manga berserk I read in Japanese and I never thought to read in English in my life. But I learned recently there is a lot of miss translation in dub version more than a subtitle in anime, but for the manga is more adapted for the foreigners to understand more easily any situation in action or love story in manga. but the most you can do you just have to do like me learn the language for a few years and then use all the time meaning watch anime manga Japanese movie and TV series because most of my English speaking friend they learn at school, but after they keep working the language watching anime and reading manga, so they can't forget the language after. Sorry for my English if I got wrong like I said i’m learning the language.
I missed you both during the festivities! We're seeing a lot of growing moments for Guts: learning to trust others with what's most valuable to him, to not lash out in anger... slowly learning to rely on others, but also not to give them more that they can chew
Having such a good time reading alongside y’all! So much stuff that I didn’t appreciate as much when I read Berserk the first time. Thanks so much for the videos! It’s been wonderful listening to the longer ones in the car on my way to work. Bless you both!
I think Guts can trust Isidoro because Isidoro wants train under Guts. Even if Guts doesn't want that he can understand that Isidoro is ill inclinded to betray him.
Really yay! We have an unofficially launched Patreon rn (link in our bio) if you wanna join our Book Club! Basically gonna be asking questions in there and stuff and discuss the current chapters of berserk we’re on! 😊
Absolutely loving recapping berserk through your father's eyes. I haven't read any chapters since kentaros last chapter. Absolutely lovely commentary with a fresh perspective
Thank you and thank you for your videos Glenn and Crystal. I'm loving every one of them and I'm rediscovering my most beloved (Casca?) piece of art ever made. I really hope you can make some Q&A from fans in-between, I feel like the community gives so much nice feedback and little details to complement your dad's view of Berserk that it would just be amazing to see.
Wow amazing video, I love the fact that gramps likes isridro, and Ofc very nice to see gramps satisfied over the death of that demon goat, thanks for the video!
Any chance you can convince your dad to read a little summary on Carl Jung’s works to help aid with his understanding of Berserk. Miura was heavily influenced by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, as a lot of Japanese are. Carl Jung’s first apprentice was a Japanese man who opened up a school of psychology after training under Jung.
This is like me when I played a souls game for the first time since they’re akin to each other in many ways for storytelling and world building, hoping for the best
I wonder if our beloved geeky Grampa is noticing the changing of the art-style, It's slowly becoming more... fantastical? as more monster and magic is released into the world by the god-hand. It's something that i slowly began noticing my first read through when my friend pointed it out.
Oooh he hasn't figured out the identity of... what are we calling that thing? Egg of the World? Dr. Egg Man? Whatever. He doesn't know about its existence yet. And after this arc I think is the Farnese-Serpico backstory while they're following Guts until they catch up, can't wait for him to figure out that Serpico is Farnese's half-brother haha, he'll be thoroughly perplexed for a moment until he realizes.
What was your dad's thoughts on Guts being able to grab Lancelot's sword because of how calloused his hands were? I thought it was really great because it shows not only his hard work, but also his struggling throughout the series led to him being able to do that. Had he had an easier life, and therefore less callous hands, then he likely could have been defeated there and lost Casca forever. Sometimes bad things can happen for good reasons, I suppose. Also I felt bad with that exchange, "let me guess!", "No, not from the bible!". He got so excited only for you to shoot him down, lol.
It only goes better from now on. The end of Conviction Arc is peak and Fantasia has the best art out of the whole of Berserk, so you have so much more to enjoy and discover. Have a great ride!
He didn't talk about Guts grabbing Serpico's sword to win the fight! That was my favorite part about this chapter. I thought it was cool that Guts had such strong hands 💪
Because youre having that vinland shirt A vinland dad question: excluding thorfins dad and thorfins warrior dad, who is the best dad in the vinland saga??!
Honest its kind of refreshing to see an Berserk fan that doesn't completely hate Mina and actually wants a form of redemption for her. Personally me reading I couldn't get over what she had did doing the whole 'cult scene' since I felt she was unveiling her "true self" their indulging in her dark desires, even making her boyfriend eat/taste the cannibal soup, but I'm realizing something...while she 100% deserved that spanking she got from Luca, she herself much like Casca became a victim of these Insane cultists, and as a result her 'perceived' loyalty towards them was shattered. Actually know a person who's YT channel I won't name, called 'Hannah' and she too was apart of that whole 'crazy cult' mind-set. While she didn't do something as bad as Mina, the same 'mental illness' their can be applied with her. She goes on about dragons, and light-working, and what-not but she actually once told me up-front "I serve Sekhmet first and Always!" Eh, don't know if you know your Egyptian mythology but she's the goddess who served Ra as his Divine punisher and got obsessed with it to the point she came-close to Annihilating man-kind (At least the humans in the area) and apart from her Ferocious reputation, she's known to send Plagues and sorts of other horrors like that. Yeah, she can Heal, so they say, but saw that Hannah was having allot of unhinged, aggressive speech like 'Not giving an Eff no-more' and calling her viewers Dragons telling them 'people fear you!' adding 'You don't have to attack people now' in her vid. Luckily I managed to pull Her away from that whole nonsense, for a good period of time but this 'sadly' goes to show that people like Nina, Farnese and Rosine (Minus the Demon fairy bit) can exist in real-time, and in a sense deserve mental help, instead of just flat abandoning them like some others. Hope, I don't sound Crazy!
