Jeremy: your style is my style. I own a quiver of V4 Swings, Sk8 850 and 950, Eagle X 700. As for stabs, the 850 with XXXS 160 and the 950 with XS 160 and the 145 for the 700. I don't need bigger foils because I only wing (so I get your fantasy quiver has bigger foils for surfing). Anyway, it felt great to hear you endorse what I like to. Love your vids. Cheers.
Sup bud! Sorry, somehow I missed this comment. This is great to hear! Yeah I have a bud that has the 750 and doesn’t get to ride it enough, I think the 850 is the way to have maximum fun out there. And the thing is fast so only some people would need to go faster. At least I’ve never had to go faster to stay on big waves. Really great to hear about these smaller tails. I may ask them to try a bunch of different tails this fall. That’d be sweet to dive into that. Cause the 200 was really cool IMO, but everyone is calling it stiff. Sometimes I like feeling more stable and locked in. Thanks again for the comment bud! Fingers crossed I’ll be on more FOne stuff this fall!
Interesting to hear f one 700 x riders… Im on Eagles too, 990 and x700, just bought the x600, since I don’t need the 990 any more (x700 is fine from 11 kts ) , but like a little smaller x and f one just brought out the 600. Really keen to test again. Don’t use sk8, never had a chance to test…
When you were speed testing those foils at pbay you sounded like one of the jets passing overhead, fast and with quite a whistle! 11:25 Very nice of you to pick the time you passed me that I was actually upright not the 20 times I was in the water haha.
hahaha yeah you were there! they were loud, Matt was saying the same thing that day. the 4th harmonic was always exciting. I got a bunch of black and blues on my legs from crashing that day at high speed. lol and no prob bud, I hope that was your god side! see you out there soon!
Loving the channel and all the good vibes. I’ve been riding the sk8 1050 and 850 for a year now both prone and on the wing from small to well overhead punchy swell and have ended up using the carve 180 xxxs monobloc on the 1050 and the 160 carve monbloc xxs on the 850. I find the longer fuse with the small tail on the 850 pairs well but keeps a good pump cadence and pitch stability. But the 180 tail on the shorter fuse helps the stiffer bigger foil turn better and pumps great. I found the larger 200 tail too stiff for me but I do like super loose feeling foils. I’m light at 70 kg. It really is personally preference and tails make such a huge difference. Just thinking aloud. Look forward to your Armstrong comeback. I was using Armstrong before I switched.
thanks bud! I look forward to changing up the stabs next time I get some stuff to demo, I'm definitely planning on requesting all the different carve stabs. I have 5 different Armie stabs and change them up all the time for different sessions, so I'm a stabaholic. love how they have all different fuse lengths too, but the 60cm Armie fuse I use for everything is shorter than all the FOne stabs... maybe the XXXS is the same length. so I'm totally into the XXXS size, but it's been fun to play with the longer ones cause I'm just not used to that. good times. I wish you an awesome weekend!
Awesome breakdown! I’m so bummed I didn’t get to try these with you. Im hoping f-one offers a larger eagle x, thinking I’d like a little more foil than 1000 for a DW step up from my 1500 seven seas. It’s probably best for my wallet that they don’t have bigger sizes. 😀😉
Yeah man I wish you could have tried some of this stuff! And I totally agree, a bigger eagle X would be really good. Like a 1200 would be ideal. I still wanna try your 1500 out in the wild. Fingers crossed for a good fall!
Haha I'm waiting for a flight home so great foil fix while waiting first comment as well . Great review that aspect 8 you know my thoughts it's the magic number 😊 I think the Eagle x will be a machine for upwind downwind runs My mate grant has his sk8 im frothing to try it 👍. Your riding is looking amazing keep ripping mate speak soon ps red sea dives where amazing as expected 😀
woot woot thanks Chris! yeah man the sk8 is good, the 8 is a great AR. I don't know if the big sk8 is good at pumping cause it's big or if they are all good, but it was really fun both pumping out and riding on the waves. LMK if you try your mate's and what you think! dude jealous of the diving. I basically haven't had a dive sesh since I started kiting in 2007 and I def miss it. safe travels! look forward to the next vid!
Just wanted to chime in on the tail discussion. I’ve got both the sk8 850 and the 1050. I’m 70 kg and prone and wing to a good standard and had the foils for a year in all conditions from small surf to well overhead. I find the 200 tail to stiff on both foils and have ended up with the 160 surf xs monbloc on the sk8 850 and the 180 xxs surf monobloc on the 1050 😅😅 monobloc on the 1050.
@@bushmanbrothers awesome, thanks for chiming in! I didn’t even know they had surf tails in smaller tails. Maybe I can try a bunch of stabs next with the sk8. I usually ride a 140 on Armstrong stuff, but sometimes on crazy days I’ll put a 205 on for stability. the regular fuse for Armstrong stuff is shorter XXS fuses, so i always like riding FOne stuff cause they feel so stable with a little extra length. stability is nice sometimes. thanks bud, i wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!!
Here's what I'm thinking on those seemingly non-intuitive results on the tails, those foils are thin so your surface drag is in a more significant proportion to displacement drag. So as you push the upper drag speed limit, your pitching moment from the high up wing force vector is overpowering the ability of the smaller tail to correct. So what's the answer? The small tail, but with a longer fuselage. P.S. As a hobby designer, your in depth reviews of different foils push my understanding too, thanks!
sup bud! I totally think you are right, a longer fuse would def help. the cool thing is these foils didn't pitch up or anything at high speeds, it just felt more chaotic and tweaky. so there's something about stability that can help you achieve higher speeds, but it's only part of the equation and prolly a subjective one at that. I ride a 60cm Armstrong fuse 100% of the time (I've ridden a 50 for a while and came back to 60) and that fuse is shorter than all these FOne fuses. pretty sure still longer than the XXXS, if maybe only by a little. thanks again bud, I wish you an awesome day!!
Love it! So I guess the million dollar question is if you could do it all over again and pick your ecosystem from the beginning, would you go Fone over Armstrong? Those Sk8’s seem to suit you really well
ohhhh no you didn't! boy that's a super tough question. I love the Sk8 and the Eagle X. I also love my Armie stuff right now. I'm starting to get into pumping, and the Armstrong v2 HA foils really got me into that, plus they kind of have a lot of characteristics of the previous MA foils. I currently only have the HAs, and I really love them. I feel like they can do more than the FOne stuff in ways, or they kind of sit in the middle (but not exactly the middle). they are really user friendly and have performance. that said, so does the FOne stuff. but I'd probably want 4-5 FOne foils to cover my bases, where I feel like I'd only need 3 Armstrong. right now, the Armstrong foils perfectly match my progression. the easy answer is I'm already in the ecosystem, so it makes deciding waaaay easier. sorry to say but it's kinda a toss up!
@@OCEANBOUND1 Love that someone asked this as I am currently in this position of trying to decide between F-one and Armstrong. Leaning to F-One since I have their boards, but everyone around me is on Armstrong. Thanks for the sharing of your experience. Hi, man, thanks for great video. I am riding the Eagle X 1000 for last month and a half pretty much in all the time now and love it. I would like to try on your advise and pair it with a bigger tail from for SUP foiling with DW board. Do you think that the older DW210 tail would also actually help when it comes to connecting move waves?
sup bud! I had the dw 210 for testing last month and it was the one I used the least. I didn't know before that FOne has smaller surf stabs, 180 and 160. so I was all about the 200, but others say that it's too stiff. so maybe the 180 on something short like a XXS or XXXS would be fun. even the XXXS is as long or slight longer than my standard Armstrong fuse, so they still pump being so "short." I thought the surf pumped the best out of all of them, and it's def more fun to turn. LMK what you get!
@@OCEANBOUND1 Thanks mate, I will try to go with 210 since it pretty flat and seems to fall into the category of what Axis foils used to recommend for pairing with PNG models. I loved PNG 1150 for dock starting and doing laps and usually, I've paired it with 200cm with a very similar profile that F-one offers in DW210 also longer fuse helped to flatten out the pumping cadence. The winter is coming to Europe (Mediterranean Sea) and it usually brings some minor swells, so I am trying to do some modifications to the setup. Probably the same as you, I've noticed that in small not very steep bumps it's hard to make 145 tail going cause it just doesn't like going slow. The board sort of releases from the water and you start flying but you just feel like you can't really pump it yet so hopefully a slightly bigger tail will improve the low end and make it more user-friendly in sub-optimal conditions
Awesomeness!!! Great review!! Also makes me even more excited to try my newly acquired sk8 1150 when I get back. Btw do you know a shop that would rent any wing or sup foil gear around Mystic, CT or not too far from here?! I have another week to spend in the area.
sup bud! and thank you!! unfortunately I don't know any shops in CT, Mystic is about 2 hrs away from me so I never go there. The shop on the Cape Inland Sea rents, that's all I know. man yr gonna love that 1150! I was totally stoked on the pump and high performance for a wing that is fairly big. LMK what you think!
Sup bud! So I only rode the 7 seas twice. It was easy and predictable, good glide, but I preferred the 1150 sk8 so I just kept playing with that one more. Lol it’s a funny problem having 4 weeks to cover 4 foils, 4 stabs and then board and wings on top of that. I wanna try to get a bigger 7 seas to paddle with. And maybe I could get a smaller one to rip around on with the wing. Do you ride either?
too bad you couldnt test the 7 seas 1300 ...so the pump of the eagle x 1000 is better ? i wonder one time if you are not gonna change your whole quiver for fone 🤣 i wonder what will be your feeling when you get back to your regular quiver , could be great to have a comparaison between the two brand ( i loved both ,but couldnt ride amstrong properly)
yeah I'm really excited to get back the Armie stuff. maybe tonight, but wind is so light around here for the next week at least... boooo! I'm super curious about pumping the Armstrong stuff now. the last FOne session was my best pump session to date, and it's hard to tell if it was the foils/conditions or if I'm actually improving. I've has Armstrong for years... and I've been progression with their designs so none of it feels weird to me, it always came at the right time. but I get that they aren't easy or for everyone. I'll really be focusing on pumping in the next few weeks, I hope to have a better understanding soon! remind me in a few weeks. as always, thanks for the comment bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!!
hmmm so you will be paddling it? or winging too? these are wing specific, but I did get that 90L to work with my 77kg. I not THAT good foil SUP'ing but good enough to make it work. the work I've done lately paddling the dw board made me better at paddleing straight on something that doesn't track that well. the longer the better, dw boards will def be easier to catch waves IMO. if you are all-in to F-One and want for paddling, then prolly go for the 105L. paddling straight wit a reverse J stroke will take some practice. the rewards are high when you start connecting!! good luck on yr journey bud!!
5 foils 2 tails . .from one brand ... and a ton of foils from the other... You are dreaming HIGH!! And now .. I imagine now difficult what is better ... all so good. (read your answer to the qustion below .. I imagined exactly that answer 😀) Have a good weekend
what's up bud! it's been a MONTH! totally awesome, I really feel super lucky. for the record there were 4 tails, lol. I tried the 170 and 210 which were good for the Eagle 1190 and the 7Seas 1300, and I tried on different speed runs and whatnot but I just kept coming back to the 200. I'm looking forward to winging on my Armie foils for the next few sessions to see how my riding has changed, cause a month of FOne stuff def had it's impact, super super curious about the pumping. that last sesh blew my mind how good it was pumping and I gotta find out if that was just me or the foils. thanks as always bud, I wish you an awesome day!!
