    I travelled alone to Moscow, St Petersburg, Tallinn, Helsinki and Reykjavik in May this year and so surprised that I love Moscow the most!! Russian does not looks the most friendly by appearance but they are very helpful!! There are guys who just came forward to help me with my huge luggage up the stairs to the metro or train station and just walked away without even giving me a chance to say thanks. And despite most do not speak English, they will try to help when been approached and somehow we can communicate with 2 different languages. Amazing affordable country with a very manageable metro and train system for solo traveller.

      Fran nijntje Hi sorry to hear about your experience. As a Chinese female travelling alone and not knowing a single word of Russian, I am really lucky having met very nice people during my trip in both Moscow and St Petersburg. In fact, I do not have anything bad to say about both places. Just to share, I also had my meal at Mac next to Yaroslavsky station and I left my sunglasses in Mac washroom. Only discovered my loss half way in the metro back to my hotel. Went back to find and surprised that the cleaner kept it and she returned me my sunglasses when I used hand sign of spectacles to her. In Kremlin, the lady in the queue behind me offered translatation so no problem for me. Also I took some traditional costume photoshoot in a studio in St Petersburg. The boss and his wife upon seeing me limping (as I had a fall), they not only drove me back to my hotel, they even drove me to pharmacy to purchase some ointment and bandage. And they suggested and drove me around on an impromptu 2 hrs night tour of SP at 9pm.

      El HM Loh Fran is telling the truth. That's how it is in russia, especially if you're not white. Dunno why you're confibbing, but don't be giving people any ideas of how wonderful moscow is while in reality it is the wild west and might cost you your life. Moscow has the highest murder rate of any big city in Europe, and if you're not white your chances of being offed are exponentially higher.

      Tal What I am sharing is really my personal experience in Russia when I was there for 1 week+ in end Apr/May. Everyone has their own travelling experience and I am not the only one with good experience in Russia.

    I think the most convenient way to get to the city center is an Aeroexpress train - 30 minutes and about 7 dollars and you're in the heart of Moscow :)

  • @busthebest
    @busthebest 7 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    There are trains called AeroExpress from all of Moscow Airports to railway stations which are mostly placed in the city center. It takes for about 40min and costs $15.
    And one more thing - you dont stay at the left side of the escalator in moscow metro, this where people walks.

    • @stefantrandafir1099
      @stefantrandafir1099 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They said about AeroExpress in the video

    • @Randhawa-in-USA
      @Randhawa-in-USA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used to use the Aero Express but with luggage it is troublesome.
      Now I use the Yandex Taxi app.
      The problem is I don't get SMS / Text on the international / non-Russian number.
      If traveling with little luggage that you can easily haul I'll prefer Aero Express.

    I know this was several years ago, but I recently found you. I went to Russia in 1991. I was stationed in Germany at the time. Flew Aeroflot from Munich to St. Petersburg and then took the overnight train to Moscow. Still remember the first time I saw the Kremlin and St. Basil cathedral. Took my breath away and I couldn’t believe I was there. Amazing to go to the Pushkin art museum in Moscow and see their Matisse collection and go to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. I love watching your videos and reminisce.

    That's so weird, you were in my hometown. I live in Europe now, so it's especially nice to see Moscow :) Btw for 10 dollars you could take a train which goes directly to the center of the city, so you don't have to lose time in traffic

      For the visa, you need a a local to “sponsor” you and vouche for you. That alone can be a lot of work if you don’t go through a travel company. You need to prebook all your hotels and flight out. There’s a few blogs that explain way better.

    Here is a tidbit of info @karaandnate about those escalators in Moscow. The reason that they are so high and the subway is so deep is that the subways were originally designed to be nuclear fallout shelters when the subways were built during the Cold War. While the Soviet Union was in power, no one was allowed to take pictures in the subway without permission and permits!!

    • @postgradsibstud9321
      @postgradsibstud9321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ptrd7546
      @ptrd7546 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're both right and wrong. The escalators are indeed high (on some stations, mainly in the city center), and they are indeed designed to be uses for shelters if needed, but the shelter thing is not the REASON for them to be deep, it's the EFFECT of them being deep.
      K&N go out at "Kuznetsky Most" station (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuznetsky_Most_(Moscow_Metro)). The name translates as "Blacksmiths' Bridge" and it's called a bridge for a reason. There is a river (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neglinnaya_River) that has been put in a tube underground and built over, but it's still there. And the ground is not strong enough for the metro to be shallow, so it has to be deep for purely engineering reasons.
      If you check the map and the dates, you'll see that although "Kuznetsky Most" station was opened in 1975, it is connected to another station called "Lubyanka" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubyanka_(Moscow_Metro)) that was built in 1935, long before the nuclear fallout threat appeared.
      Of course, since they've built the deep underground facilities anyway, it would have been wasteful not to make them available as a shelter, during WW2 first, and then re-equip against the newly identified fallout threat once that threat came around.
