It’s interesting that you have received so many questions at the border. As a Dutch person i’ve been to Russia 5 times in the last year and a half and I never even received a single question even though we are seen as an unfriendly nation by Russia. They only made a joke once and asked if I had weed on me😅.

It is not real security check and you don't come to air side. It is like in several other countries, there is a pre security check before you can enter the airport building and come to the arrival area or the check in. Same is in Turkey for example. The real security control to come to air side is later.

Hi Josh, I had the pleasure to work in and out of Moscow and St Petersburg for 20 years. I saw the good and bad of the country within this time. The architecture, museums and as you said the Metro is stunning in Moscow as well as St Petersburg. The people I worked with were amazing, but sadly we lost the office over what has happened.
You are right, Moscow is a bucket list city, in Winter as well as summer.
If I remember, the Raddison where you stayed is part of Stalin Sisters, which are 7 near identical buildings around the city. I used to stay in the Hilton Leningradskaya which was also one of the sisters. The hotel was just amazing, we stayed there a lot and even received an invitation to the staff party which is something that I will never forget.
We always flew BMI (back in the time) and then British Airways in and out of DME and then the Sapsan train up to St Pete's. The BA crew were not allowed off the aircraft, so it was one of the longest working days for them within the BA fleet.
It was always interesting going in and out of immigration, even with a full working visa sanctioned by them...!
Happy Travels , your vlog brought back a lot of fond memories.

I just returned home to California from Moscow a few days ago, around the same time this video was made. It was my fourth visit since February 2022 and my experiences were similar on the Aeroflot flight I flew between Moscow and Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Last week, upon exiting the country, I was taken back for a 30 minute "interview" at passport control. Completely understandable given the terrorist bombings that have occurred in Russia and the lethal aid being supplied by the West. It's worth noting that, unlike the EU and US, which harass Russian visitors extensively even before the invasion, and now make visa issuance to them or entry all but impossible in many cases, Russia has kept its doors wide open to Western visitors. In four visits and more than six months of aggregate time there in the last two years I've not had a single negative experience. Such incidents at passport control and others mentioned are small inconveniences compared to the wonderful experiences that await. Nice video Josh!

You mean that the state that is at war is exchanging fire with country they're at war with? Wow, who would expect that, maybe if russia didn't start this war.
Also, explain harassment, what kind of, in what way. Russia right now is terrorist country, increased and more frequent searches of their citizens are obvious. Not to mention the fact that even before the war, russians were the main ethnicity caught smuggling tobacco, drugs, and were involved in all matter of illegal trade, to name a few. So I don't see anything surprising in the increased searches at border crossings and airports.
Let's also add disrupting GPS communications over european countries, spreading disinformation, attacking civilians in european countries, especially refugees from Ukraine, without reason (like the case from last year, 2 adult russians beating up to death a 12yo boy, because he was speaking in Ukrainian).
If your (not your your, I'm talking vabout russians) citizens abroad and your government behave like a bunch of drunk gopniks, don't be surprised if they are treated like a bunch of drunk gopniks.

I considered me as a friend of russia - had many friends there and visited 12 times since 2001. Saw many beautufull places and shared meals with many good russians. The things happening in Ukraine changed all that, and no matter how much I see what I miss I wont go back until things have totally changed there. But I feel the loss, because Russia and most of the russian people are beautifull . The hospitality especially is number one, bring a bottle of vodka and you are allowed into peoples home if you the right attitude. I hope to come back again one day before I die.

    2. If you are flying to Russia, you should have Yandex or Uber apps installed. So that you don't have to ask the guy at the counter for a taxi. Hey Josh, welcome to Russia! Thank you for your message about the dark side of many countries around the world, It's very refreshing to hear a Westerner say this after the demonization that Russia, her government, and her people have been subject to for over two years.
As a Russian repatriate with family members living abroad, travelling has become quite a bit more expensive; I used to fly to my other home country for roughly $350-450 for a round trip back in the day. Now the same flight would take me twice as long and cost north of $600, often significantly so.

Hi Josh. Nice video. Enjoyed it a lot. Russia is a fantastic nation. I traveled many times to Russia also in winter. I even married a fantastic lovely Russian lady. Unfortunately its not so easy anymore to travel to Russia without a good reason. I truely hope that this will change in the future. Also learned the Russian language to communicate easier , i know its not easy but i can recommend it! Many whishes from Flanders and keep on making nice videos!

Flew Kostroma Air Antonov’s and Vologda Air Yak’s and also Rossiya Superjets. Aeroflot is underrated in many people minds. Moscow is beautiful city. Wish you good luck Josh!

In 2023, Forbes compiled a rating of airlines that make low-cost and regular flights from Russia abroad. Analysts have compiled a list of the 30 most popular destinations and compared the airlines that fly there by average prices, number of flights and available cities. The list of 30 popular cities for departure from Russia from September 2022 to August 2023 includes Yerevan, Istanbul, Tashkent, Dushanbe, Antalya, Baku, Bishkek, Osh, Minsk, Dubai, Khujand, Almaty, Astana, Tbilisi, Samarkand, Tel Aviv, Namangan, Kulyab, Chisinau, Bukhara, Ferghana, Belgrade, Urgench, Phuket, Bangkok, Ganja, Bokhtar, Denpasar (Bali), Dalaman and Paris. Aeroflot became the leader of the rating, which received maximum points for the frequency of flights, as well as for the route network.

EU ATC of course have to be involved due to proximity but according to international offshore border rules, the flight path is always on narrow international space between the EU countries. I am surprised you are not aware of that inspite of being an aviation expert.

They (border guard, part of FSB) interrogate people from "Unfriendly countries" and also Russians who left the country avoiding mobilization or who emigrated some time ago. And that's why they're asking if you have a Telegram account - if you're a Russian citizen and you wrote something against the war or Putin's regime in private conversations or even if you're subscribed to some "wrong" channels - you'll definitely have a huge fine or even could be imprisoned from 2 to 15 years.

      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

I would never take a taxi from the airport to the center. The train runs often, is much more comfortable and faster and you don't have to worry about getting ripped off. I have taken the train many times. The subway system will get you to your final destination quickly. Anyway, unless you have friends or family in Russia, it is not a good idea to help the Russian economy at this time. And you should have shown the people getting up to grab their luggage as the plane was still taxiing to the gate and then the mad crush forward as it arrived at the gate. That is standard on Aeroflot flights and other airlines going to and from Russia.
