Hi all, I was in the US Navy air wing. Nuts and bolts on jets are subject to A LOT of vibration. We would wire tie them in place. The 'wire nuts' or bolts have a hole drilled through one "corner" of the head (which can be done with a drill if you can't find them predrilled). A wire is run through the hole in the torqued down nut or bolt and attached to others in series or to a tiedown spot, if it is singular. There is a special rotating clamp plier tool to twist the wire to cinch the connection but it can be done by hand. It's hard to explain the nuances of the various configurations to apply the wire holdfast using text comments. There are videos online showing how it is done. This eliminates dependence on "nylon" nuts which can still loosen up or "lock tight' which makes them hard to remove. I've been a fan of the channel for years. Hope this comment may help someone out there. Cheers all, Thomas
around thw world? great! read the book A WORLD OF MY OWN by Robin Knox Johnson from what I remembered he never used the engine once Don't think that was allowed
You guys got this, it might seem all complicated and everything from your perspective, but the two of you are so powerful that it's just gunna happen yo. You will be at the end of this journey looking back at this moment thinking WOW we really did that, we brought two kids through that... we inspired 1.85 million people through that, (and here's the three million yet to come) it's gunna to be like, "are you serious did we really?" You will look back and think, YES we did. You will look back to this moment and think we have touched the lives of Millions... and made our lives better doing so... and when you finally cross your own path, when the two of you have have journeyed all the way back around to where this all began... I hope and pray that it is all the more magical the second time around =];) thank you... thank you for inspiring me to do the same ^.^ you all have a wonderful day.
Just had to stop after the first minute because I have to assure you that as a mom of a 5 year old boy and of a 10 months old girl, there is absolutely no judgement for flying. I keep watching your adventures for months now and I am always amazed how you manage with two boys on board. KUDOS to you two! Now back to watching your amazing plans!
I agree, flying is not an issue when you have yr two boisterous boys. Are you doing any meet ups when you come to England, as would like to say Thank you in person for saving my sanity during lockdown when I found you on TH-cam.
Sadly there are people out there who are looking to criticize mostly with absolutely NO Justification thus they are called Haters. Thing to do is to ignore them they are totally irrelevant, as ;parents you should do what you feel is best and to hell with haters.
People can judge all they want. Children need to come first and your mental state is critical. I flew for a living…wait till the kids say I don’t want to sail anywhere…can we go on vacation using no sailboats! PLEASE MOM. Mine did but it was flying❤
I'm whatcha call a lurker - I don't often comment but I always Like. I want to say that I can't imagine anyone judging you for taking two toddlers on the easier travel route after living in such close quarters for so long. You don't show the meltdowns (kids and parents!) but anyone who has raised kids knows that's part of the deal. I admire you both so much. You are amazing and your videos are accessible, informative, real and gorgeous. Thank you!

As said a million times before, "It's always something." You came, you say, and you carried on. May God continue to bless your little family as you continue to take all of us along on your wonderful adventure. Thank you for your share.
The beauty of these videos u all deserve Grammy awards utube style! The quiet the stress but handled so beautifully strategic boat handling much respect to both u n forest. Elaina ur a Rockstar
You guys always manage to find the best people to help out onboard, Forrest is up there with Andre as an all time favorite crew member for me! What a guy!
I love how a trip with a 4 year old and 2 year old alone to you is a break 😂 I don’t want to travel with one two year old alone. Props to you and give yourself so much credit!
Good on yer both for sticking by your decisions. When you introduce kids into the mix it changes priorities for a while. You absolutely made the right decision. 👏👏
Would love to see an episode where all the amazing crew got together, from Andre to your cousin, David, and Forrest. All the Nannie’s…. That would be a blast.
DANG dudes! What an episode. You really captured the intensity of that night sail into a busy port but at the same time you came across as completely in control and knowledgeable. Fantastic. Really looking forward to the upcoming boats. Thanks guys.
I really loved this video especially😅 the way Riley and Forest stayed calm while meandering through the bay. Elana made the best choice flying with the boys!
Good for you for putting you and your kiddos first. Anyone who has a negative comment…they have issues all of their own. I am so proud of you two for doing what is right for YOUR family. Praying for safe travels for you both. 😊
Really enjoyed content. Thanks for being authentic and real and what a sail adventure and learning experience for sailors. Looks like the next episodes are going to be an adventure. It’s fun.
Please don't worry about judgment about anything you do. Just live your lives as you see fit. Most are just thrilled to come along on whatever journey you take ❤😊
Truly, you could compare Riley, Elayna and their different crews as like being like "astronauts of the sea," in my opinion. The knowledge they have to have, always having to be completely aware at all times of what's happening with your boat (the repairs), the long hours and so much more. Plus they fish for their own sustenance, take care of two amazing babies and also, as well, teach people about our world. Wow!
Been watching you guys for a long time now and I still don’t know much about sailing, but the animation while explaining is super helpful. Without it, I might just fast forward past it. Appreciate the work that is goes into these videos!
This one was so exciting!!! I was scared and thrilled when yall were anchoring under sail!!!! Oh my goodness 😂Riley, YOU ARE A ROCK STAR❤ Thank goodness mama and boys flew out❤ The Fairest of Winds to you guys❤
Having brought up 2 hyper lads, you totally made the right decision. The kids come first and foremost in your decisions now. I've been watching for years and you guys got me through the horrific lockdowns here, where my Dad was dying. You guys inspired me to push my exploration boundaries and we just enjoyed a fantastic month in Australia. I wish you well for the future. Many thanks.
You guys are the best!!!! Boat life I have seen.. Please never worry about what the negative people in this world have to say , you guys are great and just do you ❤️
Congrats Riley and Forrest! I am PROUD of you two. You have proven that you are true sailors with your seamanship skills , resilience, navigating the challenges of the sea and teamwork.
I also had to stop after the first few minutes and say never never never pause to be yourselves because of what others may think! Because of who you are is why we watch you!🎉
I know you both go above and beyond to give relevant videos to ur audience. Flying the boys, no worries. Do what u need to do and what works best for u. You're the pilot of ur ship and ur life-onshore and off. Blessings and smooth sailind⛵
Ain't gonna lie, I'm doing the pee pee dance in anticipation of these upcoming videos! Love, love, love you guys! I love this channel because you SAIL, not motor, through so many situations. The trek into this anchorage is a massive testament to your expertise and intricate understanding of how sailing works, how it is mathematical, and why it's vital to understand how the vessel you are handing reacts. Riley, you are a legend! This was amazing to watch! Every video is such a treat! Thank you!
Hello I’m Naia it was my dads birthday a few years ago we got your merch and you sent my dad a note ! We are in Bali right now to and would love to see you guys we’re here for 3 more weeks and me and my family have been watching you for four years! Hopefully you see this text!
I think that was an awesome call Elayna definitely you and the boys fly back. So glad that you are taking time for you. Gosh you feel like my kids I worry about but so glad that you are all well and so excited for the future videos. Love you guys big hugs all around.
There’s not much else I can say about what I just saw in this last video. No judgements on ya mom for making the best decision to fly ahead. Riley, you are a Master Captain. We could see the wheels turning in your mind as you discovered the problems and made your plans. Forest complimented your plan of action and you both executed it precisely. Total and absolute success. On to the next.
This episode was INTENSE! When my kids were young, I sometimes would visit a friend or family member for a few days. It was so good for my marriage. Absence indeed DOES make the heart grow fonder! ❤️
Your sanity and peace of mind is so much more important than anyone spewing negativity. Always make the choice on what is best for the kids and you two and you will never go wrong.
No one has the right to judge anyone else !!!!! Plain and simple. You two always have the BOYS best interest in mind !!! We your true followers know 💚💚💚💚 so excited for you all !!!
Will Forest be traveling with you guys all over ? He’s really such a great guy and big help and seems to love sailing also. Can’t wait til the show starts and your journey begins. What wonderful memories for the boys. Oh my gosh. You really should write a book Elayna on all your experiences good and bad. Love you guys. Stay safe and healthy 🫶🫶👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙
Super proud of you guys for doing what's best for *YOUR* family! In 10+ years when your boys look back and watch this video, they'll know that you guys put them before the opinions of strangers! That's love, and that cannot be debated!
In 50 years the boys will be living in a world where oil has run out and climate change is in full effect. The world will be fucked because of the massive consumption by the generations before them.
I am always greatful for your videos, all of you, and how well matched your guests and occasional crew you vet!! Your recent episode had me on what can go wrong out in the blue! And you navigation skills are top shelf both of you! I've trucked all over North America and mostly Canada. You HAVE to fix what fails trouble shoot, improvise , forward think and be calm. At minus 40c and no one to hear your May day call you've got at best 90 minutes before your engine won't start at those temps. Very proud of you both. And a mate that has your back and a lady that loves you. You may not have it all together but together you have it All.
Wow what an incredibly intense evening. You couldn't find 2 better sailors to manage a dangerous situation like that. Kudos to you two. Good call to fly the kids. It would have been mayhem otherwise.
Just been watching this whilst 2kids are having a nap & cooking dinner (feel like I’m winning today!) it’s been so chilled and uplifting, Love you guys and love the seeing Elayna singing xx
In relation to the judgement about flying - I'm watching your life if it involves you deciding to fly then good, you do what's right for you, and I'll continue to watch and live vicariously xx
I met a European family of 5 traveling around the world with their dog in their tiny 20 ft. sailboat. They were humble, kind, hard-working - a loving family. No complaints or self pity. Very refreshing and impressive.
We’ve raised our now 17 year old aboard sailing. Either Dylan, our son, went to family or Dylan and I met boat at end of boat delivery by hubby and crew. Yes, we know how it is with littles under feet while under way. Do you, and everyone else can do what they want. Stay true to you, only way to keep your soul happy! Cheers!
Awesome episode! Riley and Forest you two showed tons of courage and skill to get into that mooring. Forest's review was spot on, waiting would have just caused more problems that you might not have realized until it was to late.
17:44. "we've managed to fix the problem". Problem solving in high stress situations is a skill that is priceless. Education can only get you so far. Being able to execute a thought out plan, in a skinny minute, is extremely rare in most people. It's no surprise Riley has been a successful sailor.
I do not Think you need to apologize for your choices. I think it is wonderful that y’all are so flexible and are honest enough to work with what your family needs. I look forward to the next ‘leg’ of your journey while you wait for the finish of your Tri. Safe journeys!😊
We would like nothing more than to see La Vagabonde sail around the world. It would bring back that raw, uncharted vibe of the first few years. It would be an historical project. It would keep all of our eyes glued to the channel! Oh...wait....your flying?
Can you just imagine what the sailing trip with engine trouble and epic night sail through a labyrinth of ships would have been like with 3 more people, 2 of them little kids would have been like? Congratulations for having the wisdom to fly them.
You make the decisions for your family because you know what is best especially when dealing with two small kids. And look! With the boat breaking and dealing a very stressful situation dodging tankers you were right! Riley… I really am not being negative here but the word you are using “orienTAted” is really “oriented.” I think you are extremely smart and know lots of stuff about a lot of things. I just think you would want to know how to say it correctly. Safe travels 🌴
You guys are amazing. I love watching the adventures your family goes on. The fact that you guys are raising two beautiful boys on a boat is an amazing feat in its self I'm so excited that you guys will be coming through the US in your trip around the world. Good luck guys stay safe and beautiful.
No worries ppl are going to judge no matter what you do but you are doing a fantastic job as a mother u do what’s best for y’all and let the judgy ppl do there self I love watching y’all and how blessed y’all are 💕💕
From a boat taking on water to a boat with no engine… 😮 your skills and knowledge are really being put to the test! Thanks for taking us along! Xx Shann
Smart move flying with the boys….even smarter given the circumstances. Can you imagine trying to get into port while the boys were on board. Anyway I am so excited to see what is coming up. It must have taken a lot of work getting this all set up. There are not many times I wish I were younger but this is one of them. I love sailing but as I live a long way from the coast and I am a grandma, I have to live vicariously through you. Thank you for letting me enjoy the ocean that you travel.
Don't think we've commented before but we've been watching for 4 or 5 years.... After enough of your videos we decided to sell the house in New Zealand and move to SEA with our 18 month old for a life full of adventures on the water and around the world. Your videos will be big catalysts for some people watching. They have changed my life personally (and my husband's) and also as a mother too I have gained a lot from seeing how you parent your boys. Never apologise for flying instead of sailing!!! Looking forward to many more videos ❤
Cannot wait for the new adventures ! You can see the passion for sailing in Riley's Eyes. You guys have come a long way. Proud of the way the family has grown and the great parenting skills!
I am an old guy living with my new Philipino family on Minanao. I can't get around much anymore so I watch you and your family chronically. I love you all through your ups and downs!!
GREAT STUFF, Boys own stuff......Have done this (two of us) a couple of times, in our 10 ton 36 foot Moonfleet: an alongside tow using the tender. Lash the tenders tiller midships (this only works if the outboard behaves itself) the tender gives propulsion, while you steer the ship. Barnacle Bern SV Cadbri in Aktio Greece. 👍👍😎😎
I enjoyed this episode very much. This is, of course, the way everyone had to sail before motorized power was a thing. I think of my grandfather, sailing coastal schooners in maritime Canada, hauling whatever cargo that needed moving without any reliable engine backup. Brave for sure but also very skilled. Also, we that regularly sail small sailboats do this all the time, but that is a different ball game. Dinghies.
Definitely would never blame you for anything especially taking a break from that pile of crap of a boat. And taking care of family comes first! Love you guys thank you for all the absolutely amazing videos!💙💙
This is when my inflatable dinghy with a 9hp motor is gold. Just tie it to the side at the stern, can take you anywhere you need. Done it many times. I cant count the times the engine overheats or has some other stupid thing go wonky as you try to anchor. Usually at night, or as you roll into a bunch of ships or big rocks etc.
No judgement, much love. Really like the adventure as it comes, may it be on boat or plane im just happy for the oportunity to tag along. But always prioritazing your mental health first, we only enjoy as long as you enjoy!
I absolutely loved this video! You had me on the edge of my seat watching you maneuver the boat to anchor! I am totally amazed how well you guys do handling the boat with issues and raising your boys at that same time. Kudos on a job well done as parents! You guys rock!❤❤
Love this movie guys. The way you started it was awesome. You’re absolutely right, some people will always have something to say about your life and decisions. Too many judge mental people who feel the need to critique your every move. I can’t imagine how hard it must be sometimes. Keep being yourselves. You guys are amazing.❤️
I am so freaking stoked to see these vessels close up through your eyes because I want to find my dream boat to live on. I have a great feeling that my future boat is on your list to explore! 🎉🫡🤑🚣♀️❤❤❤❤

Would love to see an episode where all the amazing crew got together, from Andre to your cousin, David, and Forrest. All the Nannie’s…. That would be a blast.
Riley and Forrest did great manuvering the boat to the crowded anchorage. Super interesting to watch how you two coordinated getting it done.
This is your best video in just soo long! Brilliant on marketing and heartfelt boom booms plus Riley showing he’s a genius 🤙🏼💜😘
Neutral… JC haha😂haha😂 YASS
Sailing or flying, life is an adventure and each version of travel has its own usable TH-cam content. Loving it guys. I get it with the kiddos.
I’m blown away ….Constant problem solving!!! You all are amazing!
DANG dudes! What an episode. You really captured the intensity of that night sail into a busy port but at the same time you came across as completely in control and knowledgeable. Fantastic. Really looking forward to the upcoming boats. Thanks guys.
My daughter is 2 next month and I couldn’t imagine doing any of the things y’all do. You are the most amazing mom!
Most are just thrilled to come along on whatever journey you take ❤😊
Whether it's flying, sailing, taking a train, bus, or riding a bike, the more experiences, the better!❤ 😊
Riley and Forest, you guys really proved you are real sailors there. This is the way!
Please never worry about what the negative people in this world have to say , you guys are great and just do you ❤️
Continue to follow what is best for each of you! Your well being is the most important.
Congrats Riley and Forrest! I am PROUD of you two. You have proven that you are true sailors with your seamanship skills , resilience, navigating the challenges of the sea and teamwork.
I also had to stop after the first few minutes and say never never never pause to be yourselves because of what others may think! Because of who you are is why we watch you!🎉
Impressive save Riley and Forest🏆
Thank you!
Pee pee dances all round 🤙🤣
Hello I’m Naia it was my dads birthday a few years ago we got your merch and you sent my dad a note ! We are in Bali right now to and would love to see you guys we’re here for 3 more weeks and me and my family have been watching you for four years! Hopefully you see this text!
Riley and Forest, You did a great job! BTW family first Elena bravo 👏🏼 ❤
I think that was an awesome call Elayna definitely you and the boys fly back. So glad that you are taking time for you. Gosh you feel like my kids I worry about but so glad that you are all well and so excited for the future videos. Love you guys big hugs all around.
Happy Belated Father’s Day Riley. The schedule sounds amazing.
Good call on flying. Awesome job sailing a broken boat into the harbor at night guys! Well done! Always enjoy your content - keep it up!
If you guys are in the UK you should visit ireland, south and north! Its a stones throw away and definitely not a trip to miss 😊
I'm excited for the new adventures!! Safe travels guys! 🙏
This episode was INTENSE!
When my kids were young, I sometimes would visit a friend or family member for a few days. It was so good for my marriage. Absence indeed DOES make the heart grow fonder! ❤️
These videos are fantastic.....great job Riley and Forest....very cool sailing!
Excited about the next adventure. Credit to you both love NN Jude xo
Could they have used the dingy to tow them to an anchor spot ?
Your sanity and peace of mind is so much more important than anyone spewing negativity. Always make the choice on what is best for the kids and you two and you will never go wrong.
No one has the right to judge anyone else !!!!! Plain and simple. You two always have the BOYS best interest in mind !!! We your true followers know 💚💚💚💚 so excited for you all !!!
Well, it’s good to hear somebody say that these days
P A I N and simple? 🤣
@@majoroldladyakamom6948 thanks ...fixed
I know 🥲 I’m so proud of both Riley and Forrest! They nailed it!
@@SailingLaVagabonde 🌊❤️🌊
Just been watching this whilst 2kids are having a nap & cooking dinner (feel like I’m winning today!) it’s been so chilled and uplifting, Love you guys and love the seeing Elayna singing xx
Sensible not to drive yourselves crazy on a 3 day passage. ❤🙌
Praying for your family. Will be so great to have your new boat finally. You are such a lovely family. God bless you!
For real your both amazing you know what's best for your family that's what makes you so exciting to watch
Your calmness reveals your brilliance. Well done.
You guys make the greatest videos. It is medicine for the soul. Living vicariously through the videos and loving every minute!
You guys are amazing. I love watching the adventures your family goes on. The fact that you guys are raising two beautiful boys on a boat is an amazing feat in its self I'm so excited that you guys will be coming through the US in your trip around the world. Good luck guys stay safe and beautiful.
No worries ppl are going to judge no matter what you do but you are doing a fantastic job as a mother u do what’s best for y’all and let the judgy ppl do there self I love watching y’all and how blessed y’all are 💕💕
My heart sings when I watch your videos.
They are the best.
From a boat taking on water to a boat with no engine… 😮 your skills and knowledge are really being put to the test! Thanks for taking us along!
Xx
Shann
Well said.
Glad you show real life. A lot of people want to get into boat life without a clue the skills needed! Great job!
It's been a pleasure watching your family, so bless.
If it’s the right decision for the family, then that’s all that matters! Safe travels and have fun!
