5th Wheel Trailer to Toy Hauler Conversion Part 1 Axle Flipping

We need a bigger trailer. So why not build one. We found an old 5th wheel frame and started working. In part one we get to work flipping the axles under the springs and redoing the brakes and springs. Make sure to leave a comment if you have any suggestions or questions.

Young people wearing sandals working in iron work isn't very safe... broken or injured feet and toes are very painful. Please get your kids some leather boots.

Fill Ziplock bag with grease. Cut corner and use as a piping bag. Duct tape corner before you cut it. Makes everything less messy

Those are set from the factory to be slightly loose so installation is easy. They are self adjusting. All you need to do is drive backwards applying the break and they adjust themselves.

Can you provide a link or what search terms do I type in for the kit to flip the axles correctly?

Axle perches are what you need to search. If you're planning on welding. I found a kit on etrailer.com that had what looked to be bolt on perches. But I went right to my local trailer shop and got everything from them. I'd definitely recommend that approach if you can before you order online. There are different sizes based on your axle. How do you measure the bearings?

I took them in to the trailer place I get my parts from. Apparently its a pretty common size for the 5 bolt 3500# axles.

@@ziasadrudin I had around 6800-7000, I was keeping a really good spreadsheet and my computer crashed, so I don't have a better answer.
