  • I test 3 different types of throws and see which one gets the most distance! 3 reps each to get an average and max distance for each throw!
    1. Backhand huck
    2. Run up backhand pull
    3. Spin pull

Brilliant video . I am on the X-Step now , but definitely need to get the spin pull down.
However , when I go for hang time , it often costs me a lot of distance , I fid that that balance and trade off is really hard to perfect ,
Id love for you do talk about the different pull options in each of the 4 winds ( Up , down , Left , Right cross wind )

Good call out. I can definitely do that in a future video. No wind here in San Diego so I’ve been waiting for a windy day. May have to wait until I vacation somewhere in a windy place to do that one!

Question: I'm learning to pull, and I see a lot of people, you included, who move their arm forward (as if throwing) and back once before actually throwing. Is this a physical thing, or just a mental thing to keep the arm loose, or?
btw, great video, I love spinning for my pulls and I've never seen that anywhere else so I am glad to see this lol.

Thanks! Glad to hear it. Honestly it’s not really a cognizant thing but it’s kind of the natural motion of the arm when you’re preparing to twist hard to release the throw.

How much does actual arm strength play into a pull? For a 50 yard huck, it seems only ordinary strength is required, but I feel like the distance (and nature of the distance, with lots of hang time and curve) of a pull requires more? Or is that me just making excuses for my inability to pull lol?

that's not an excuse though. Excuse in that context is when you put the fault on something else. You were clearly putting the fault on yourself for being weak.
My opinion is that arm strength doesn't matter as much as arm speed does.

Arm strength is certainly a part of it but in my experience it’s not a very big part at all. One’s ability to generate torque with your entire body is the most important factor in getting distance and power. There are many throwers who are skinny but can throw far and there are guys who are muscular and strong in the gym that can’t throw nearly as far.

@@kurtegibson I've always wondered the "rivalry" you guys had with prime Wisconsin Hodags in those years. You guys went 49-1 in 2006 and they went 55-1 the following year, then the 2008 games back and forth.
