whats hilarious going by the bad ending and dragon quest builders, both times the dragonlord promises you land - only to effectively kill you both times (the fallen hero took a long time to be killed but he dies). meanwhile, the nature goddess, in appreciation for your service in builders, fucking gives you your own archepellago (which literally is what dragonlord promised you both times, a realm you rule over) with zero strings attached.
There is something that is just *wrong* with being able to just cast Hurtmore on Dragonlord. The game explicitly wants you to use Eldrick's Sword on him, to the point there is a significant amount of attack increase from the Flame Sword (i actually sneak in Castle Charlock at the earliest opportunity to grab the sword and run out right after I nab the Armor so I can grind with it). Unless you are level 25+ you aren't doing to be able to damage him with anything else. NES version has a defense of 100, and the Metal Slime has a defense of 127. If you haven't enough attack power you have a 50/50 chance to do 1 damage. You can't score critical hits (excellent moves) either. Dragonlord is supposed to be a gear check to see if you got the thing you need to beat him or not. That or grind to level 30.
The Super Famicom ending is much much better. After the true ending it got a backtrack animation on all the places you've visited. This one is just a boring ending credits.
