Got mine brand new in Jan 2022. What a car! There’s a sense of occasion ever time I drive it and after 16 months and 9000 miles that hasn’t changed. Sublime drive, amazing engine, exquisite finish for a £60k car. I had dozens of cars and never kept any more than 2 years but this one is for the long term. If you can get one and keep it, it won’t be long until this kind of car is gone
An excellent review on the 840i! I had a 650i for thirteen and half years and traded it for the 2021 840i XDrive.i am the happiest BMW owner in the world besides you Lad! This car is by far the most technologically advanced vehicle in the world, hands down! It’s fast, it’s comfortable, it’s sexy and best of all it is unique, and that’s what I love! Everybody is buying Corvettes, yeah they are cool but everyone has one! I don’t want what everyone else has! That’s no fun!
Picked mine up today. 69 plate. 5108 miles. One previous owner. BMW manager. It’s bloody awesome. My brother hated BMW’s. But since me getting a six abc now this one he has changed his mind.
Great review....I had this car delivered last July and love it. The B58 engine is as sweet as a nut, design wise its certainly a head turner, comfortable with all the spec you could want coming as standard - has to be one of the best BMWs currently available. Yes its a huge chunk of change but there are deals out there to be had ;-)
This 840i it’s right in the middle, with great sound(not like 850i or M8) but totally suitable for everyday driving with more then enough power of that great 6 cylinder engine. I really love it, it is great Car and the best BMW is currently making. 640d gran coupe was great but now this is better. Great video!!!!!
I really can’t believe your comments on the BMW 840i Gran coupe!! Linking it to the 640d Gran coupe!!?! I owned two 640d Gran coupe’s and a BMW 840i gran coupe!! But you really mirrored my exact comments ?! Now I have just picked up my brand new BMW 840i coupe!?! How lucky has my last 10 years of driving been?!?!

THANKS for the great reviews from a real driver reviewer.
10 years ago I would have been a customer for this car.... just not anymore. I still want bits of it... a full leather dash and HUD (oh...and android auto) might convince me to move back to BMW with the i4 or iNext. But more likely I'm either heading for Porsche or staying with Tesla for the next car. The problem for BMW is that I'm not the only one... half of the regular BMW sedan customers I know have either bought a Tesla or are hanging on to their current car for a year or two longer to see what's around the corner.
you have a android and you want to drive a porsche or tesla? get a iphone 11 pro max and you will have the best of both worlds my friend. i honestly dont know anyone that drives expensive cars and does not have the latest iphone or the ipad hanging in the car or the booth for the ipad. enjoy your next car good taste
@@dublinairportplanes I think you have the wrong idea of where iphone owners fit in the pecking order. Sure I had one before the first decent android phones... I had the original iphone and 3G. But Android is just objectively a better OS, iOS is generally the OS of non-technical users and those with limited needs. Most BMW owners I know...at least the ones buying new BMWs... use Android. Anyway, the point is that BMW is the only high-end carmaker without android auto support, and that has more to do with corporate politics within BMW than anything else. And those corporate politics and BMWs general lack of software engineering talent meant that with my last BMW I ended up having to buy an ipod touch just so I could use spotify, because BMW connected supported every app on android except spotify. With my Model 3... I don't give a damn about smartphone connectivity because the existing software does everything I need, but iDrive is not up to that standard and I don't trust BMW to provide ongoing support for their software after they abandoned making even minor updates for bluetooth support in iDrive on my i3 within the first year of ownership.

Both have their pros and cons and as you righty said iOS is for people who want things simple and nice and android you can make it your own. Enjoy driving 😀
Thanks Bob, I think I would have this car on my list too. Don't know when it will be released in Australia. And yes there is something special about a 6 cylinder engine note.
I can recommend the Meguiars big yellow drying towel for moments like this :) have BMW really made the 8 series that good to justify its existence over the 6 series? Surely they are nearly the same car?
Good film. I’m returning to BMW after three disastrous years with Porsche. Got a new Mini JCW outside and my plan now is a 650i GC for the second motor 👍
@@ZedaaaaHD Watch the Panamera review on my channel but know that in addition to that, Porsche GB rejected my request to reject the car (it spent 4 months in total during an 18 month period in the dealership for unscheduled repairs) and it rusted at six years old. And because it was a ‘bolt on panel’ which rusted (a rear door) Porsche told me the anti corrosion guarantee didn’t cover it. They are disingenuous and disinterested because there is always another customer… So yes, for me anyway it was that bad. I will never return to them.
A nice car for sure, but....it’s too big to park, the depreciation will be huge and no one would touch it after 5 years of ownership due to the cost of things going wrong. I’d take the 840d for the greasy roads but only after a massive discount, on a low APR PCP, over 3 years.
You missed his whole point. He stated multiple times that depreciation was not relevant to this car in that he'd never sell it. As for "it's too big to park", wut?
Hi Bob, thanks for a great review, makes a nice change to have a happy reviewer. I have that brilliant engine in my BMW640 GT and I confirm it does bring a smile to my face. BMW UK are not going to import the 640GT from Germany anymore, which is a real shame. Does that apply to ROI?
After three generations of true 6 Series, the fourth - which is a big hatchback - is nothing but a 5 Series GT that meant to bring more money for BMW but it actually hasn't. It's just a regrettable attempt really ...
I did not have a good experience with my last 5 series. Gearbox went at 150k driving nicely.... bad experience with the dealer in Dublin South so I went for a Mercedes... .For 125k you get 2-3 years warranty ? a joke... if their cars are so good why not offering 7 years...

Beautiful car. I actually think the new Kia Stinger would give 90% of the pleasure at a fraction of the cost. The Stinger 3.3 (367 bhp and 377 lb of torque) is a rocket - faster than the 840. And like the 840i, it focuses more on comfort than bone shaking hard suspension for handling. But yes, a 2nd hand 840i would be a good buy as someone already mentioned and I believe the 840i is the only 8 variant to be offered in rear drive only too. Not sure why BMW didn’t give it the 374 bhp BMW M440i engine but will probably save that for the mid cycle facelift.
This car was in development before that engine was introduced, thus they were already focusing production around this engine making it simply impossible.
Have car manufacturers gone completely mad or what? Now they're giving their flagship cars to be reviewed by any TH-camr/car "journalist" who asks? I understand that Porsche has an interest of giving their newest and most badass model as soon as possible in the hands of Doug DeMuro, Carwow, Chris Harris, Supercar blonde, Schmee, etc. Basically to anyone with millions of subscribers which guarantees massive exposure to their new car within a few weeks. I have nothing against this guy and I admire his effort, but is it really in BMW's or Bentley's, or any other car manufacturer's interest to simply give a 100 000$ car to a guy whose video will end up with 20 000 views? If they are actually doing this than it's about time for me to open a channel, get 200 subscribers, call my local Porsche dealership and try out the new 911 Turbo S.
