Am I the only one who thinks the clips of Tim Curry Joker sound terrible? Not even comparing to Hamill here, he just sounds too whiny, especially whenever he says "Batmaaahn." Less Clown Prince of Crime, more Clown Toddler of Whine.
I can't tell if it's just that I'm so used to Hamill being perfect or if I found Curry genuinely bad here, but yeah. And I love Tim Curry. The idea of him potentially being the '89 Joker always sounded like a cool alternate timeline.
It's great to see footage from Tim Curry's performance as The Joker. I remember the announcement of Curry's casting. Then later, I read an interview stating he'd been replaced, having never recorded any dialogue, meaning we'd never know what his Joker sounded like. But he HAD recorded dialogue, a complete episode, apparently! His take is a little more Brooklyn mob boss than I expected, sort of like a male Harley Quinn or something. Thanks for putting together this in depth look at all the BTAS Jokers, it was very eye opening!
What a great watch this was. You finally gave me full scenes with Tim Curry that I’ve never seen or heard. I knew he was originally cast but I’ve only heard his laugh, not a full scene.
Man I miss Kevin. Every time I see him at the end of one of your vids, it puts a small smile on my face. (Also, when the video first got to Crisis part 3 (which I haven't seen yet.) and heard the voice, I was like "That is definitely NOT Mark Hamill, lol. 🤣)
3:16 - 3:24/ I'm actually inclined to believe Mr. Curry about developing bronchitis. Just think about this chronology. Around 1989, production was underway on IT for the ABC television network. But that wasn't Tim's only acting that year. Between 1989 and 1990, he also recorded 45 episodes of PETER PAN AND THE PIRATES, voicing Captain Hook. Heading into 1991, the time in which BTAS was officially in production, you can bet that Tim Curry's vocal chords had taken an awful beating with nearly 3 consecutive years of acting. He's only human!😂❤
How many people can they say they've played an iconic hero? How many people can say they've played an iconic villain? Mark Hamill has done both as Luke Skywalker and the Joker. That makes him truly special.
Definitely can see curry’s mannerisms and design in the early episodes that featured the joker so it’s interesting to see how Mark is the voice while in the early episodes was Tim’s movement
Don't pay attention to a stupid, animated movie nobody cares about. The DCAU begins with BTAS and ends with Batman Beyond. ANYTHING post 2006 is just bad fanfiction.
It can't be the real DCAU as we know that universe carried on 50 years into the future. It also had Batman in his original outfit even though the Justice League Watch Tower was orbiting earth by which point Batman had a different outfit.
I remember watching Crisis part 3 the day it released n went insane over Conroy’s return but was confused why Hamill wasnt n literally did not know til just now watching ur video that they rereleased it with Mark Hamill’s voice. I just got filled with the same excitement i felt seeing the scene for the first time. Conroy and Hamill acting alongside ea other again. Wow 🥹
@@seasonembrace3624 - Yes, it's a reupload. The only part that I don't remember being from an older video is the quick update on Mark Hamill actually voicing the Joker in the re-upload of Crisis Part 3 (the part in which Vee called the movie out for using a placeholder voice was first released on July 23 2024 and titled *"Mark Hamill is NOT the Joker"* ) But everything else come from older videos, all blended together, which can be confusing since it's not indicated anywhere in the title, video itself, or even in the video description... And most people have such shot memories in the first place (see the "Mandela effect" for solid examples), a good chunk of them probably don't even remember watching the original video anyway ^^'
The OG yellow eyes , yellow teeth joker was the perfect character design. Especially in the Mask of Phantasm. And Mark Hamill is and forever will be the Joker. Just like Mr Conroy as the Bat.
The graphicaudio audiobooks with the full cast has one guy that plays both batman and joker and hes phenomenal. His name is Richard Rohan. They are MUST HAVES for dc lovers
Would love to see a future video of times Joker seemingly broke character and allowed his facade to drop. At the end of the day, no matter how theatrical and chaotic he is, he is a man with a goal. Ex: • The Killing Joke: Joker telling Batman it's too late for him to redeem himself. • Mask if the Phantasm: When Joker says "To find out who's iced the whole gang" the words "to find out" don't have Hamill's Joker-esque sound possibly indicating the former Jack Napier itching to take revenge on the Phantasm ... possiblyavenging the last remnants of his former life. • Arkham Origins: When Joker let's out his true anger when saying "We both exist because of them" referring to Gotham and Society as a whole destroying who they used to be. • The Dark Knight: Joker confused and angry the people on the boats refused to play his game and disproved his desire to prove one bad day is what it takes to show everyone is as ugly on the inside like he is. • Batman Beyond - Return of the Joker: When Terry McGinnis calls Joker's Bluff and gives him what he wants Joker can't accept it. Also possibly when Joker dies proclaiming "That's not funny, that's not ..." • The Dark Knight Returns: Despite trying to drive Batman to kill him he is still shocked when Batman takes out one of Joker's eyes with a Batshuriken ... "Are you out of your mind!?" • The Batman: After hijacking into Joker's Mind via Hugo Strange's device Batman runs into Joker's past life who helps him find the Kidnapped Ellen Yin before Joker mentally murders his past memory of himself. • ETC
Tim Curry's voice is too guttural and not as high pitched as Mark Hamill's. Though Curry has one of those natural Joker faces. I often think his character in The Shadow (1994) was a close idea at what he would he looked like as Jack Napier had he been in B89.
9:32 There’s actually 2 different versions of the Batman and Joker scene & one does actually have Mark Hamil as the Joker. The one in the video was the first one before they put him in so I’m pretty sure the second one is what people are talking about.
Tim Curry does some amazing voicework, but Hammill mops the floor with Curry when it comes to The Joker. We won out, as fans, in my opinion. But again, Curry does great work in other places. I still want to give the actor his laurels.
Mark Hamill, to me, isn't quite the definitive Joker (sorry, I have an odd love for Cesar Romero, he's my Joker), but he is definitely in the top three for voice acting. Besides, he was also the definitive version of the Trickster, multiple times!

I think Tim really struggled to balance the silly with the intimidating and if Mark didn't get the part Joker would have absolutely sucked in this show in the long run. Tim should have just used his normal voice and accent.
You're not. I prefer Mark
Yeah I think it does sound kinda bad I prefer Mark Hamil

At one point, Tim Curry was every Cartoon Villian
Mark Hamil’s performance in Crisis was fixed. Download a refreshed copy.
Yes, he mentioned that at the end of the video.
How can I find it
@ Mark Hamil’s version is now on a file available on Apple/Itunes. They may have updated it on Max as well.

Fun fact: the joker in crisis was supposed to be Hamil but they forgot to dub the lines with Hamil on the initial release and it was updated later lol

if that's the case it's crazy how many people tried to excuse that voice as the joker

Warner Brothers really had the audacity to kill my childhood on screen in Crisis on infinite earths part 3.

My theory about Mark Hamil's voice in Crisis is that it is him, but has a layer of A.I on top to make him sound a bit more youthful.
It actually isnt that at all, it was stand in audio from another actor. I dont know why people keep spreading this rumor

well, i'm glad we finally got that mystery cleared up; it was driving fans nuts
So many years on and Mark is still the best version of this character :)
There’s a lot of DC characters that scratch their chin.
Tim Curry's voice is too guttural and not as high pitched as Mark Hamill's. Though Curry has one of those natural Joker faces. I often think his character in The Shadow (1994) was a close idea at what he would he looked like as Jack Napier had he been in B89.
The more Joker the merrier. Would also enjoy your take on Ceasar Romero's stint as the deadly ghoul.
Best Bat channelll
I mean even though it's the same continuity, Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures really are two different shows.
Indeed. BTAS is Earth-92 and TNBA is Earth-97. The space between them created the revamp and some retconning but mostly the same narrative.

even if Mark Hamill gets laughed off the Internet I'll always love his Joker portrayal
On crisis it kinda sounds like the same voice actor who voiced Joker in the Injustice animated film.
I love the part where he says “I’m the Jokah, baybee” and Jokahs all over those guys
I was always under the impression that the Joker in "Dreams in Darkness" was played by Bruce Timm.
