Best review! We've been using the new Yi for a couple of weeks and I agree with everything you said, esp. regarding the screen, battery life, USB-C port cover. Despite the weaknesses, our A-cameras are now GH5s @ 4K/60p & the Yi 4K+ will definitely integrate better than dropping the framerate. Even at 30p, we love stretching video to 2x slo-mo for some cheap drama. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this comment :) I'm very impressed with the fact that it didn't overheat. The quad-core Ambarella H2 is a great processor. I'm not sure why it didn't have slo-mo features like 1080p 180fps or 720p at 300fps because I'm sure it can deliver it.

I feel the same Jon. Watching other websites reviews on this sort of stuff it just seems odd sometimes. I watched a video review of these three camera on some video website and the guy literally said "if picture quality, image stabilization and stabilized at 4k isn't what you need then get the hero 5 black....." What? Really, why wouldn't you want that in your camera. Love this website.
i have two Yi 4k's and one Yi 4k+ also two Sony FDR X3000's and the cameras that impress me every time are the Yi's! (Yi uses Sony sensor and lens elements) i sold all of my Go Pro garbage, the hero 5 is absolute junk! Go Pro still corrupt the last video file if the battery goes flat while recording while all other camera's don't. If your going to carry an external screen for the sony then just use your phone for the Yi.
i bought my first action cam (first use is vacation trip), first i bought yi 4k+ but this colors and WB... i was not happy with it so i return it and buy x3000. videos from it is really great: colors and boss, but i miss the a lot of manual settings which give 4k+, the low light video is really noisy (from sony).no cam is perfect, the best is your set x3000 and yi 4k+ IMO. about the screen. yi have dark screen :( but sony have small screen and not build in is a bit annoying. i have to think where can i put in to comfort use :D. i hope next yi improve WB and colors to x3000 level, add OIS, get brighter screen and put normal jack for mic :P , then this cam will be perfect IMO.
I just got it and I'm quite happy with it and I don't have that door problem. If you don't care about 4K 60fps, then the Sony would be OK if you don't mind the shape of it. I bought it so I can add a 4K 60fps camera to my travel gear list.
Glad someone said something about the shape of the Sony. I have the 1000 and the 3000 and I love the video but the shape sucks and makes it stick out and harder to use.
Hey! Look what I did here. I enjoyed this episode, hit the subscribe button (you had it somewhere on the screen) and I joined the WORLD DOMINATTTIIII..... 💥
I find your points invalid a little bit. Yi 4K+ is a GoPro killer. Here is why: You din't like the Yis' screen but you didn't bother that the Sony doesn't even have one and for the GoPros' screen many users say that the touch isn't working properly many times. You didn't like too much the Yis' stabilization but GoPro doesn't even have one, so is useless without a gyro gimbal. The internal mic on all of them isn't excellent for a really good video result, an external mic is necessary anyway. So the Yi 4K+ looks fully featured than the others to me. Golden ratio with less money. For the usb cover I have no words, it's not a point to be worst camera.
If you wanna look and feel like a Pro' go for the good brands, but if you wanna feel and look cheap always go for the chinese brands. Let's be honest but there is always a down side with chinese "cheaper" brands.. Stolen tech, cut corners, spying software, bad user interfaces._+
@@camranh_royal Stolen tech lol, don't you think GoPro would have sued their ass off for that? Why is it still on Amazon? Stop reading the "fake" news. LOL
I purchased Yi 4K+ just from watching your NAB vlog - testing it in the Maldives in a few weeks time, but 60fps & 135mbps was my reasons behind the purchase, especially when editing with PP 2017, the flat colour profile with no sharpening is better than GoPro IMOA. Thanks for the continued great channel, Im sure the missus has tuned you up since this vlog :)
Very well done the comparison. I chose the YI 4k +. The best result with regard to stabilization certainly supplies the Sony with the optical image stabilizer, since the electronic yes can not come along. But - Camera costs almost twice, (329€/529€) - no comparable good display, - unfavorable design, ?? - no 50 / 60p at 4k - less adjustment possibilities The FDR-X3000 was synonymous with me in the narrow choice, but then I have decided for the YI 4K + and my decision so far not regret. Another advantage for the YI 4k + is the DJI Osmo Mobile, which I use for my iPhone 6s +. With a modified adapter, I can also use the YI 4k +, that would be with the Sony not possible. Supplement FDR-X3000 is also suitable for DJI Osmo Mobile. The biggest advantage for me, however, is the smooth playback of the 4k video clips of the X3000 in the video editing program Edius. The clips of the YI 4k + I can not play without stakes on the Timeline. For this I need a new PC.I ordered the FDR-X3000. In a few days I can compare the two cameras myself
Hello, great video. Can you tell me which settings are you recommending on yi 4k+ for lowlight? My lowlight videos are grainy. What settings are you using and why (specially metering mode, shutter speed, wb, iso, color) Thank you!
Can you make a footage with Yi4K+ with different framerate? Very interest to see bitrate and details of 30, 60, 120, 240 fps. May be with compare Sony X3000
I'm not some freak fan of Yi, even that i got one, but i'm always surprised why almost no one making review about it, brings up it's exclusive feature of all action cameras on the market - live streaming. For me it was the reason why i bought it, cause i love livestreaming my climbing adventures on FB for friends, and i'm sure it would be reason for others aswell to buy one.
Just a quick question. Which one I should buy for indoors 4k videos? Tell me two. One relatively cheap and one you think is best value for money. Thank you.
Love your work! I am looking for an action cam can’t decide between gopro 5 /sonyfdr x3000/and the YI 4k+. There does not seem to be any youtube videos comparing the cameras from DJI Phantom/ Mavic COMPARED to the top action cameras? What is your opinion of comparison? I've not tried out the Sony FDR yet, but the YI 4K+ is awesome and I say if you're serious about getting some good footage it's a great camera for the adventurous types!
Great review and it's nice that you don't only concentrate on the specs but real world usablity! For me the ability to shoot 4K at 60fps is so huge that despite the weaknesses of the camera I see myself using it a lot more than my Hero 5. Have been quite impressed with the 4K+ after using it for a week now.
Hey these action camera comparison videos are really helpful. Do you notice any differences in the quality or size of the Sony's FDR-X3000's footage at 4K30p vs. 4K24p?
Great review, loads of useful samples. Did you try adjusting the Yi4K+ audio to get less peaking? The big advantage of the Yi over the Sony, is being able to use all the gopro form factor add-ons, like lens filters and mounts and especially, gimbals that people already own from older cameras.
7:46 actually the Yi lasts WAY longer as pointed out in any review! For someone like you recording 4K/60fps only on the Yi and claiming itlasts less is quite a noobish mistake...should fix that with a note or something, in 4K/60fps and 1080/60fps the Yi lasts more!
plus what matters is the picture quality, to my eye the yi is sharper than gopro and has much better image stabilisation. Saying that it is a worse camera because of the port cover being a bit loose is quite a BS argument.
you are the best! thumbs up! yi can do medium fov without loosing quality by 4k 30p right? sonetines the wideangle is too much for me so that would be great if medium fov can be enabled in 4k by the 4k+
How long does the battery last on the X3000? Also, is there any way to connect the view screen to the X3000, or do you have to carry around 2 things? Thanks!
Hey, I would absolutely love to see a comparison between the 4K+, FDR-X3000 and Garmin Virb 30. At daylight AND especially at low light conditions. Please. I don't have the money to buy all three of them and try them out myself
Enjoy your videos. Funny and informative. I've been enjoying my YI 4K+. My USB door is nice and tight... haha I upgraded to firmware 1.04 and my Samsung cards stopped working with it so I flashed down to 1.01. The new YI Gimbal 2 coming out looks real nice.
Personally still like the Hero5 and get some great footage from it. I had the older Sony Action Cam (100 series) and it always seemed very cumbersome to use in comparison (not that GP doesn't have its quirks). The ease of mounting and the fact that its waterproof enough for most needs without a case still earn it my action cam of choice. The Karma Grip also works exceedingly well and feels much more durable than the Osmo. None are perfect, but the Hero5 ticks the most boxes for me.
That's really depend on what your mounting this cameras . So I didn't got fully understand if I want to mount it on my helmet how it's going to inflict on my audio . does it has an audio plug ? How much time I can use that camera for recording ? if I have vlogs or something please I would like to know with a simple replay.. tnx ;)
Hey first off good video reviews. I am new to all this. My budget is 150$ i need a camera that i can use for anything and everything. Day and night. What is an action camera that you personally would recommend for my price range. Features, sound, video/still, accessories, battery life are very essential...
I've been using a Sony for a long time. The only problem is the shape (or platform) of the camera. It's very good to mount on the side of my head or helmet but it's so cumbersome when I use chest mount or backpack shoulder mount. I've been looking at Yi4K+ since it came out. Yep... still want it for EIS. Once I have stabilization I can't live without it.
Yi 4K is cheaper and has better low light capability than Hero 5. Also, I don't do much post production like colour grading so I don't really need GoPro.
All of them produce great pictures. If I want to upgrade my head camera I would definitely pick FDR X3000. It's about the way of mounting it. Sony is easier to mount length way. It'll fall flat if you put on to the side of the head or on the side of a bike. OIS is a big plus too. If you plan to use chest mount, GoPro or Yi will be better. GoPro is water resistance and has flat colour profile which you can use to make cinematic picture (grading) in post production. Yi produce nice picture out of the camera but a bit difficult to do grading.
Okay, thank you very much :) I have several videos to the SonyFDR X3000 looked at and almost all have confirmed that at the time the Sony is the best. Nevertheless, I will not take it, because the price is too expensive, the form is too lumpy and I will use it rather for water sports. Well, would you rather give me the GoPro or the Yi Camera? Once again thank you, that you at all answer first :) (I'm sorry for my English, I'm from Germany)
Go iPhonedo ! I sold my hero 5 T get the Sony Fdr-X3000 action camera many months back with your other review. My Sony action Camera rocks, I love the optical image stabilization. My channel has Sony Cam videos all over on it. I give the Sony 3.75/4. The night time low light noise does suck though. What is the best low light (no noise) camera for the money?
Dato Aliff Alex it's not directly related to number of Subscribers, my channel is like a single person motorcycle magazine type review channel and I was also winner of TH-cam nextUp, they made a special consideration considering my number is big compared to rest of the numbers in my country.
Is there any news available yet about a successor from Yi Technolgy for the Yi 4K+? I'm thinking about buying the Yi 4k+, but I want to be sure that they don't release an even better action camera this year :)
did someone see a Yellow halo on the display left corner up? when is black in a low light situation many people and me saw this problem... thanks for video and congratulation for the channel!
it is video because when at 800% we clearly see video noise. usually for a given resolution the higher the frame rate the lower the image quality (even in good lighting)

You should get the Airdog ADii instead of your other DJI drones.
I'm gonna get it and hack that cradle to house the FDR-X3000 :-)
I also did alot of research and the Typhoons and GoPro karma is not a good replacement for the DJi.

So you praise Sony's 3.5mm jack input but don't even try a USB-C to Jack 3.5mm that can do the same? With the YI 4k + both with the recordings as well as the handling of the camera I was very satisfied. Annoyed me however the very difficult editing of the clips in the video cut program. To work well with it you need a very fast PC.

When using the remote control via the iPhone, the video display on the display is not fluid. Every 2 seconds there is a dropout of about 0.5 seconds. This is very disturbing.
I have now decided for the YI 4k +.
Essential arguments compared to the Sony FDR-X3000 are the following in my opinion:
- The YI 4k + is much easier to use
- Easier and clearer in the setting of the parameters
- offers more possibilities besides the normal film recordings (Time Lapse Video, Slow Motion, Time Lapse Photo, etc.
- more settings for shutter, ISO, etc.
- a very good working EIS (up to 4k 30p), almost as good as B.O.S.S. The X3000
-. Also very good adjustment of the lens distortion up to 4k 30p
- 4k 60p
- The housing design of the YI 4k + and the size are more suitable for me
- the preparation of the camera up to the time of the recording takes longer with the X3000, I need 2 parts, the camera and the remote control
- the display of the YI 4k + has a higher resolution than the remote control of the X3000
The disadvantage of the more difficult video processing of the clips I accept

7:46 actually the Yi lasts WAY longer as pointed out in any review! For someone like you recording 4K/60fps only on the Yi and claiming itlasts less is quite a noobish mistake...should fix that with a note or something, in 4K/60fps and 1080/60fps the Yi lasts more!
plus what matters is the picture quality, to my eye the yi is sharper than gopro and has much better image stabilisation. Saying that it is a worse camera because of the port cover being a bit loose is quite a BS argument.
because of your outro :) liked - subscribed :) thanks for the review. I think i'm going to get Yi 4k+ thu!
you are the best! thumbs up!
yi can do medium fov without loosing quality by 4k 30p right?
sonetines the wideangle is too much for me so that would be great if medium fov can be enabled in 4k by the 4k+
I loved that thorough, comical, informational and educational review/comparison. It saved me from buying a gopro.
What do you use for mounts on the Sony? I'm using my old GoPro connectors and they arent holding steady. Thanks!
How long does the battery last on the X3000? Also, is there any way to connect the view screen to the X3000, or do you have to carry around 2 things? Thanks!
x3000 is great. Battery life is around 2 hours, but I have 2 extra batteries for it with me. View screen connects to the grip, very nicely!
Love the videos but the main reason i subscribed was see'ing the Team Fortress photos...respect!
excellent review. I love my Sony FDR-X3000 and i believe still it is the best.
what's your take on the fitfort action camera. Just bought it off of Amazon for 67$$.
Hey, I would absolutely love to see a comparison between the 4K+, FDR-X3000 and Garmin Virb 30. At daylight AND especially at low light conditions. Please. I don't have the money to buy all three of them and try them out myself
2:46 holy cow team fortress 2...sir you earned my subscribe
SONY 4 EVER!!!! great job man :)
What is your main camera? It seems like focus was struggling.
"with that guru guy" just killed me :D
I have an older custom quad that has a gopro gimble that does not work with gopro 5.. how does it compare size and weight to a hero 4?
yes, I want to see your review on hero 6 when it comes out 👍
hi thank-you so, which one is the winner? it seems like it's Sony?
I love your review great job nice video.
Enjoy your videos. Funny and informative.
I've been enjoying my YI 4K+. My USB door is nice and tight... haha
I upgraded to firmware 1.04 and my Samsung cards stopped working with it so I flashed down to 1.01.
None are perfect, but the Hero5 ticks the most boxes for me.
which gimbal do.you recommend for the sony fdr3000?
What did you shoot this on ? I'm guessing a Sony because I didn't even bother trying to focus from 7:45.
Once I have stabilization I can't live without it.
oOBeaverzOo Why did not you take the GoPro?
Yi 4K is cheaper and has better low light capability than Hero 5. Also, I don't do much post production like colour grading so I don't really need GoPro.
Okay thank you. And why didn't you choose the Sony FDR X3000? I'm only just thinking about which I should get from the three.
Okay, thank you very much :)
I have several videos to the SonyFDR X3000 looked at and almost all have confirmed that at the time the Sony is the best. Nevertheless, I will not take it, because the price is too expensive, the form is too lumpy and I will use it rather for water sports.
Well, would you rather give me the GoPro or the Yi Camera?
Once again thank you, that you at all answer first :)
(I'm sorry for my English, I'm from Germany)
Did somebody used or tested the external microphone on the YI 4K+ already?!
And what microphone would be best for it?
Thank you liked the video 👍🏻
thanks for another great review.
gopro 5 or yi4k+ ? i am 60- 40 % to buy gopro , i think he has better colors.
You must have been unlucky with the USB-C door, on mine I have a problem opening it since its so tightly shut...
You sound like the guy in despicable me.
Nice review, thanks!
+Catamaran Channel Thank you so much! I love hearing that. Check this out: bit.ly/igru
i was about to say the same thing, but had to scroll down to see other comments. .
What camera are you filming?
love the background music 04:07 - 05:25
Do you have the overheat issues with Sony when keep record 4K video?
Go iPhonedo ! I sold my hero 5 T get the Sony Fdr-X3000 action camera many months back with your other review. My Sony action Camera rocks, I love the optical image stabilization. My channel has Sony Cam videos all over on it. I give the Sony 3.75/4. The night time low light noise does suck though. What is the best low light (no noise) camera for the money?
does yi 4k+ has external mic input?
Ride With Rahul can you tell me how you receive the verification tick on your channel even tho you don't have 100K subs? I only got 3K
yes, through usb c- mic cable.
Dato Aliff Alex it's not directly related to number of Subscribers, my channel is like a single person motorcycle magazine type review channel and I was also winner of TH-cam nextUp, they made a special consideration considering my number is big compared to rest of the numbers in my country.
great review/ comparison.
*Absolutely hilarious comment about your ex and the yoga instructor* 😂😂😂😂
that made me cringe tbh. totally forced joke
*LOVE YOUR VIDEOS*
7:55 still using the GH5?
exactly my thoughts :DDD
He's holding the rig (can be seen at 8:03), so it must be some other camera. The RX100 V wouldn't make that mistake.
He did mean GoPro Hero 5, he meant Panasonic GH5!
Yeah that's the camera I was referring to, the Panasonic. I see now how that could be confused as the (G)opro (H)ero 5 though.
Yeh why the focusing issues? Is this the new Sony he got?
I don't care for the screen. I drive my motorcycle. The audio however I will have to wait and see. How long is 4k record time in total? On 1 battery
Is there any news available yet about a successor from Yi Technolgy for the Yi 4K+? I'm thinking about buying the Yi 4k+, but I want to be sure that they don't release an even better action camera this year :)
did someone see a Yellow halo on the display left corner up? when is black in a low light situation many people and me saw this problem... thanks for video and congratulation for the channel!
what camera have you used for the video indoor?
when comparing 4k image detail at t=4m04s-4m16s , was the yi4k+ in 60fps ?of 30fps like the 2 other cameras ? thanks
it is video because when at 800% we clearly see video noise. usually for a given resolution the higher the frame rate the lower the image quality (even in good lighting)
