Nailed the review. Some corrections, you can't just buy any USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, it won't work. You need to buy the cable specifically from Yi, which is currently out of stock (correction, back in stock now as of yesterday at the Yi Store). If you put it into the Yi Gimbal, because the right mic is up against the motor, you will hear motor noise. Fortunately, you can flip the gimbal arm around on the Yi Gimbal so that the right mic is not pressed up against the motor. Take a look at my channel for the gimbal motor noise tests. Also, you fail to mention that with the Go Pro Hero 5 Black, you can only shoot at a bitrate of 60Mbps at 4K 30fps. With the Yi 4K+ you can shoot 4K 60fps at 135Mbps at the highest setting, so a big difference in image quality. I also started a subreddit for the latest up to date discussion about the Yi 4K+ at: www.reddit.com/r/yi4kplus/

      Thank you for these updates!
      1. Have you tested any other cables? Would love to find one that works while waiting for the restock.
      2. Great point about bit rates - game changer.
      3. What do you think about my summary at the end of this video? What is your opinion on GoPro 5 Black VS. Yi 4K+?
      Keep crushing it!
      Sean

      @idrinkforbadges6018 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1. I have not personally tested other cables, but when the 4K+ came out, it took about 30 days for Yi to finally release their USB-C to 3.5mm cable. During those 30 days, a lot of people have bought and tested cables, and all did not work.
      2. Definitely a game changer, and there is nothing currently available in the action camera market that will have 4K 30fps with EIS or 4K 60fps, except for the Yi 4K+ which is the reason that I bought it. Sony does, but it doesn't have a screen for this same price point, and can't do 4K 60fps.
      3. Great summary. As with every product, everyone has to evaluate what features they want and what they will use. Do you want 4K 60fps? Do you want 4K 30fps with EIS? Do you want to use an external mic? Do you want 135Mbps bitrate? If yes to any of these questions, get the Yi 4K+
Do you want an action camera that doesn't need a waterproof case, and don't care about all the above features because the highest setting you are going to use is 1080p 120fps? Get the Go Pro Hero 5 Black.
Finally, if you don't care about 4K 60fps, and don't need an external mic (can't use external mic on original Yi 4K), and are on a budget, the original Yi 4K is an fantastic deal for $180-$199

idrinkforbadges. the yi4 k just had a beta firmware update and the bitrates in high quality shoots at 100 instead of 60.

    • @idrinkforbadges6018
      @idrinkforbadges6018 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's nice to see that the original Yi 4K got a nice bump in image quality in the beta firmware from Yi. Before, you had to use the bitrate hack. They are also doing great things in the firmware like improving the color. I love that Yi is able to roll out these changes and improvements to the firmware very quickly, unlike Go Pro, who is very slow at these changes.

I have also tested the Yi 4K+, and I also noticed that its biggest glaring weakness is sound quality. The audio is practically unusable, even when using the external mic adapter and connecting a quality external mic. The sound is tinny and noisy. The ironic thing is that its much cheaper non-4K sibling, the Yi Lite, has very good usable audio (records bass!) from its internal mic. This issue was addressed to Yi over a year ago, but there has been no response, thus far. Sound quality is very important when using these cameras for vlogging and travel.

I have original YI4K: I figured out that I get better IQ out of camera if I shoot 4K and defish in post and still wider view and room for post production stabilisation, if I shoot 2,7K with defish on. I hardly wait to get 60p version to have best of both.

You need the waterproof case that comes with it... but then yes... you could use that with car mounts, body, head, etc. from gopro.
Sometimes is a little tight "fit-wise" - but I've always got it to work with my gopro or generic accessories.

What I would like to see is the integration of bluetooth voice recording in the Yi 4K or 4K +. That would really seal the deal against the GoPro!!
I use a Sena communication system when I ride my motorcycle and if you want to record your voice for vlogging, you have to use a bluetooth piggy-back device to record it on video. Now, if the Yi would integrate that onto the camera, it would be amazing!

I just picked one up on a crazy lightning deal from amazon. I was looking to replace my SJCam 5000 and looking at some initial comparisons of just the view finder, I can see that this will be a pretty good improvement and audio on the SJcam was trash. So I can do a little more with this one in the car and on the go. Stoked.
That 2.7 wide view setting is clutch. Ill have to play around with that.

Sorry, but USB Type C does not mean faster transfer speeds. its just a connector. Behind there can be USB 2.0, USB 3.0 or USB 3.1. in the USB departement. Of Course there also can be Thunderbold (or some other Stuff) behind it. So its just a connector which can be very different in the specifications behind it.
Great review though! Thanks. I also love the Yi 4k :D

plus it isn't realy cheap but you didn't mentioned it is cheap and i think this might be the gorpo killer though
i bet gopro probably adds 4k60fps on the gopro hero6 haha

    Hi Sean
Looks like a good camera but doesn't justify the price in my opinion when the SJcam6 legend is roughly £100 less and comes with lots of extras. The problem I have with action cams and I use the SJ legend on my metal detecting videos is getting a good mic able to withstand the Scottish weather and still deliver good sound.
A review of mics for action cams would be appreciated mate
    Regards
    Alex

SJcam6 legend is apples and oranges compared to the Yi 4K or Yi 4K+
      SJcam6 doesn't even do full 4K. Full 4K is 3840×2160. Highest that SJcam6 does is 2880×2160 at 24fps.
SJcam6 sells for $159, while original Yi 4K is around $180-$199. I think it will again come down to what features you want and care about.

      Hi Idrinkforbadges
True about the 4k and as you quite rightly say it is down to what the user wants, for me 4 k isnt a deal breaker as most ppl watch my videos on tablets and phones, but if someone can suggest a good budget waterproof windproof mic to go with these cameras that would get my interest.
      Regards
      Alex

What are your settings because my yi 4k+ seems to have some blurring in the background roughly in the 10-20 yards at 4k60fps and it is not nice at all. Edit December 8th, 2018, the camera had a defect and has been replaced since. Everything is perfect now.

Great review, I just wondered if you had any tips on how you get the camera to connect to the app on a one plus 5 phone? Have updated the firmware and it connects fine to my iPhone 5s but just haven't managed to have any joy with my one plus 5... either with the Yi action app or the yi pro app.

I like the kit of the Yi 4k but I'm not able to use an external mic. Should I wait for possibly a new Yi to come out and get this Yi 4k+ at a lower price or do you not think there will be another one coming out soon and I have to get the accessories separate? Thank you!

Quick question, is the yi 4k plus, is still a good investment for 2018? To upscale my video footage for my channel? Coz right now i am only using my vivo v3 phone. Looking for upgrade that not so expensive.

Amazon has the Go Pro Hero 5 Black for $349. Best Buy will do a price match if you want it now ( just bought a Go Pro at Best Buy and they did price match). As good as the Yi 4K+ is right now, because the Go Pro doesn't need an extra waterproof case and has better audio, I would go with the Go Pro right now while it's on sale.

so my partner and I own a pet sitting company. We want to start taking shots and videos of our "adventures" and possible doing some light vloging and such. We were thinking about getting the small drone from dji when it comes out ($500) and a classical cannon 70D but do you think we could get by with this action camera or a go pro since we could also use those action shots capabilities that we wouldn't have with a DSLR?

I heard one review which said that the usb cover would fly open by it self. But, I think that Yi has fixed that problem because my new yi + does not have that problem. Therefor about your tight cover. You'll probably damage your usb cover by using a knife. They do sell finger nail strengthener which might help. lol

THe reviews i have see for the Yi 4K+ say that it's weakness is shooting into the sun or light source because it has trouble maintaining contrast and color saturation in that situation. Almost every single footage sample you showed was exactly shooting into the sun!!!
