    Today we pit the new GoPro HERO 6 vs my old favorite, YI 4K+!
    YI was the first action camera with 4K60FPS, but GoPro has caught up and not only features 4K60, but other major improvements and enhanced shooting modes. GoPro HERO 6 can also shoot 2.7K 120FPS and 1080p 240FPS!! That's pretty massive!
    One key difference to notice in today's side by side comparisons are the quality of resolution, clarity, color, dynamic range... the YI 4K+ is recording a much higher bitrate (amount of data recorded per second), and thus you'll notice the YI having better clarity.. very interesting!
    Let me know which one YOU guys think is better in the comments! Is it worth paying the extra $$ for GoPro?!
    Thank you guys so much for watching!
    Stay tuned for more GOPRO 6 and other tech videos coming soon! bit.ly/authente...

    Yi:
    - better image quality, sharper image, visibly higher bitrate (less blocky artifacts),
    - natural colors
    - sound is clearer but NOT in wind!
    - slow motion videos (lower fps, but higher quality),
    - much cheaper!
    - waterproofing: needs a case
    GoPro
    - has better digital image stabilization,
    - vivid colors
    - wider image,
    - lower sound quality, but better wind noise reduction,
    - slow motion videos (higher fps, but lower quality),
    - slightly better in low light,
    - waterproofing: no case needed

    • @Foremi
      @Foremi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Gopro is using HEVC in the 4k60 mode where as the yi is not, hevc gives the same detail for around half the bitrate. Since the gopros 4k60 bitrate is around 80mbps thats the equivalent of 160mbps h.264 like the yi.
      Also if you record in flat color mode and color correct you have more flexibility than with the yi. The yi is overly warm. The hero 6 may be overly saturated and contrasty in gopro color it is at least more neutral.

    • @furulevi
      @furulevi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      But the Yi is still sharper and more detailed with less blocky artifacts after uploading to youtube...

    • @Foremi
      @Foremi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Because most of the comparisons are bogus. You cant take 2.7k 120 and compare it to 2.7k 60 and expect the same detail and the same with 1080/240 and 1080/120. You are talking literally half the data per frame. Pause it at 7:20 and the Hero 6's details in the plywood and logos on the plywood is drastically better. I'm not sure whats up with the comparison at 2:20, mine does not look like that in high action scenes. I think ALOT of the extra "detail" you see from the yi is artifical over sharpening like most of those china cameras have.

    Honestly as more professional Yi 4k+ makes more sense to get as much higher bitrate and sharper image quality is actually very important. The higher FPS doesn't matter when the image quality is just trashed. If want to have better stabilised footage the price difference, you can just buy an Action cam gimbal instead, which also great for motion timelapse and more.

    I think you should cover that enthusiasts have overclocked the Yi 4K+ 1080p to 150FPS. I do believe that 720p could run at a whopping 300FPS as well. All in all the customization ability of the 4K+ is really alluring.

    Thank you for such an amazing review. great job on that. Here's my question tho. Can I connect the Yi 4K+ directly to a computer if I wanted to do a live recording? Like could I use it in a church for my Drummer, and stream it live?

    Great video, very detailed comparison. You should include the Sony X3000 to the GoPro 6 and You 4K+. I switched to the Sony last year for all my mountain biking videos and I have no regrets. The picture quality, color, sound and image stabilization is way better on the Sony.

    I love the YI 4K Plus. My colors are richer than what I see in your videos, also my low light performance is better. I personally had a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and GoPro Hero 5 Black and both had three major problems that resulted in me returning both shortly after purchasing them: SD Card Errors, blank back screen that required removing the battery to stop, and the Hero 5 Black also over heated and also occasionally shut down on its' own without any warning or reason and it wasn't hot. Just 3 to 40 seconds in, it just turned itself off and at least a dozen times when I thought I was filming with it, it was off without my knowledge. The YI 4K Plus has been flawless and I love it !!!

      Dr Dimento hows the battery life?

    • @drdimento
      @drdimento 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite awesome actually. I have yet t to kill the battery recording for 1/2 to 1+ hour increments. Just guessing a couple hours at this point. I am totally impressed with the photos and video and especially indoor medium low light. My GoPro Hero 5 Black and 4 Silver inside were awful. I like the color hold on the YI 4K+ also. The GoPro's both either failed or overheated regularly and often shut down without video when I used them. In fact, when I used the GoPro's in a professional situation (had to have the video) not once did they come through, both shut down (which is why I returned them). I tried the SJcam units and while they functioned a lot like the GoPro's they never overheated or shut off on their own, but the low light quality was worse than the GoPro's. The quality of video, the battery life, and the price of the YI 4K Plus are a definite PLUS (pun) in this fellers trick bag.

    • @drdimento
      @drdimento 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to take so long to respond but I was waiting for a batt kit that gave me a charger and two extra batteries. I've been using the camera on road trips and the batt life is pretty much OK with what I do. If you'd like I'll film to crash on several different situations and report back? Ohhhh, and definitely like this over the GoPro Hero 5 Black, especially in that it actually works every time I use it. The GoPro 5 (like the 4 I had also) crashed eery time I turned around. The Yi Plus works. Yes !!!

      If you wanna look and feel like a Pro' go for the good brands, but if you wanna feel and look cheap always go for the chinese brands. Let's be honest but there is always a down side with chinese "cheaper" brands.. Stolen tech, cut corners, spying software, bad user interfaces.

    Regarding price and (especially) sound comparison, one should consider gopro's out of the box water resistance. Flat vs Vivid is a dead end comparison since both are subject dependent. Surely both camera outputs would require tweaking at some point. Beyond that, I would take higher bit rate everyday.

    At almost twice the price of Yi, it is really disappointing why GoPro cannot beat it outright. Better clarity and dynamic range is the core to any camera, it is amazing how the expensive GoPro cannot beat and 6 months old product.

      VTC Drone are you both kidding? the eis from gopro is godlike + doble of frameratr(fps &slowmo what people wants, otherwise you take the older model) gopro 6 crush yi 4k+ destroy yi 4+ . better to compare yi 4k+ to gopro 5. i would better put my money to have more framerate and stabilisation. 4k60 1080p240fps for 500€? with stab? dude thats not expensive

    • @VTCDrone
      @VTCDrone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is undeniable that dynamic range and clarity, Yi4K+ beat Hero6. And though those are not the only factors, those are two of the few core factors in videography. Basically in a normal mode, if you do a lot of shaking GoPro win for their stabilization but, if you just walk or quick pace, then Yi4K+ won. Both need to be bum down to 4K30FPS to use EIS. In addition, I didn't think most people use a lot of slow-mo.
      The very fact that Hero 6 cannot beat a 6 month old with nearly half the price product outright is very disappointing. Do remember one is $300, the other is $500.

    • @thedeafgenius
      @thedeafgenius 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you see this, one important thing to compare would be battery life. I have had gopros and changed to Yi because of the battery life. It is true my camera is still the Yi 4K(not plus) so we are talking about a worse camera for sure, but still Gopro has been disappointing all the time in terms of battery life. Could it be that now they got it right?

    1. Gopro hero 5 and 6 freeze a lot, how ever YI's interface is fast and smooth.
    2. Gopro customer service is not good (kind of rude) , YI doesn't even need service (i own 3 YI camera and 2 gopro) All my gopro freezes , kind of sucks.

    • @vivealexcheng
      @vivealexcheng 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the glare on Yi 4K plus is very pronouced, but the overall quality of the image is much better on the Yi side. I don't like that GoPro had to dial up the saturation to make the image LOOKS better, that suppose to be the kind of trick done by lower end cameras.

    • @8928chris
      @8928chris 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheng CHENG I think they have made this choice because the largest part of users use the videos without color correction and they are much satisfected in this way... Of course the images of the yi have more details but when you put the sun directly in the frame you see a lot of aberrations. Is this a big problem? I don't think so....

    • @vivealexcheng
      @vivealexcheng 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's true, but he also compared the slow mo smoothness of two cameras at different FPS, so he just compare them at the highest setting anyway.

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's also a little misleading unless you are comparing specifically the smoothness of the footage. I think a better slow-mo comparison would also include the same clips played back at the same fps to really show how much "slower" a higher recorded FPS allows.

    Great video man, I'm sure someone else has probably pointed it out, but when you are doing the ultra slow mo and comment that the yi looks a lot sharper but obviously not as smooth due to not having the same frame rate. I don't think you're taking into consideration the high framerate / bit rate. If you did this test with 2 gopros, shot 1 of them at 240 and the other at 120, the 120 one would look sharper because each frame of video would have twice the available bytes as the 240 camera. Same reason if you compared any highspeed gopro shot with a normal 30fps shot the 30 fps will have way more detail and look much sharper because each frame would have lots of more data per frame to make it look good. Obviously the Yi camera has a lot more data flowing as you showed in the earlier shots. But it's a no brainier that with these action cams, more FPS means less detail.

    Yi is definitely sharper look at the scooter clip in the beginning, the leaves on the trees gives great detail with the yi

    1080p with 240fps from hero6 is quite blurry so I would go for another comparison - 720p 240fps from yi vs 1080/240 gopro

    I ordered the Yi 4+ bundle a month before GoPro 6 was out, because didn't know or heard anything about it first. So, I canceled it to wait & check out the GoPro6. and Now, i'm sure that Yi4+ bundle is the right choice for moi! :) like the video!

    After having a Hero 5 I doubt if I will ever be persuaded to get another GoPro :-( Here's a list: It was glitchy. It had many frozen screens. I was always wondering if it had actually recorded. If you start recording with the one touch button it won't restart if you pause the recording. And don't get me started on the sound quality or lack of it, yes you can use an external mic but the adapter will cost another $60 that's without a microphone and then it's not waterproof because you have to leave the door open. If they just sold it as an underwater camera they could get away with it. And the battery life was terrible. And not even a tripod screw thread. I'm not nitpicking, these things are important!

    Cool video! This is more like the comparison of Galaxy Note 8 vs Iphone X. The most saturated and vibrant looking one is always the best!👍

    Great comparison. The Yi 4K+ simply has much sharper picture quality due to that higher bit rate. The GP6 has better EIS but it overexposes alot the scenes with the whites washed out and details lost. Colours are more vivid on the GP6 but very unnatural looking.

    GoPro needs to make the bit-rate and clarity better, as well as the audio. Do those couple things and that extra $100 is worth it.

    Hello! I do not understand in your language, but visually it seems to me that GoPro has a more saturated picture, more viewing angle, good stabilization, YI has a better microphone, slows down video, but sharper than GoPro. I took YI three-axis stabilizer with AliExpress, like a normal firm ... Where do you live, what kind of beautiful places?

    I like both. They both have their positives and negatives. I wish Gopro had the Yi menu system. Very easy to use and select settings.
    I wonder what Yi will do to answer this. Haha.
    Great video.

    Nice video! The EIS comparison was great! Don't quite understand the value of comparing bitrate though when it's two completely different codecs (HEVC vs H264)? IMHO the Yi is leagues ahead regarding sharpness, and the lack of details but also aliasing on the GoPros high-framerate modes almost makes me think they record in lower res and upscale in camera... Not impressed.

    Interesting that I am seeing this video on the Yi 4k cameras. I am planning on using these cameras for facial motion capture and after hearing that I can record at 120 with this, I am happy to see this review

    The video stabilization is very important for action cam. Yi may need new model to compete with Hero6.

    What action camera to buy?!? I am an active rower and I coach rowing. Video analysis is very important. I have been researching for a month at least, various cameras and I still did not find one that I can say "I'm getting this one". All top brands have terrible reviews on Amazon - GoPro 5&6 and session 5, Garmin virb ultra 30, Sony fdr x3000. The same time, some cheaper options have excellent reviews - YI 4K, YI 4K+, DBPOWER EX7000, DBPOWER N6 4K Touchscreen, FITFORT Action Camera 4K, AKASO Brave 4..... So, I am really confused because I do not mind spending 400-500$ on a top brand because I want quality, but from what I have read in the reviews, it seems that GoPros are not reliable, have terrible customer support, and are highly overpriced and overrated. Any suggestions on what should I go for?

  • @BradsDrones
    @BradsDrones 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly, I am not impressed with the 6 at all. Of course, I am only looking at reviews, and don't have one. I am in the market to get a new 4K camera. I would prefer a GH5, but I have a budget. I would almost prefer to buy the Hero 5 over the 6, but the Yi looks good. I recently bought a CHEAP 4K action camera, and got exactly what I paid for (crap). That is the only reason I am hesitant on getting a Yi. I need to have something that is rock solid with the video performance. When I hit record, I don't want to have to worry about it not recording, or having some odd results in the video as I did with the cheap one. IF I knew the Yi was a solid performer, I would pull the trigger and get it. Thanks for letting me babble. Have a great day :)
