I have an unopened Hero 5 and I’m hoping to use it with a helmet chin mount for extended motorcycle trips this summer. Primarily I wanted to read license plates and the road in case there are accidents. I will have an Insta360 for videos. My question is: do you think wide 4:3 is the way to go for me in this case?
I picked one up about a month ago for $50 to use trail riding in the truck. For my needs, it's fantastic! I see them regularly going for $90-$125 on marketplace. *You CAN remove the front lens. Pull very hard on the lens and turn it to the left ( if you're looking the camera head-on ) It is kind of hard to do, but a few pulls and turns should do the trick. There are replacement lenses and filters available on the zon.
Great video, Carl! I recently dug out my old GP Hero 6 from storage and lent it to a friend to use on a 3 month trip to Bali. Played around with it a little beforehand and it's actually pretty good. Surprisingly good. These older action cameras still pack a pretty powerful punch, if you know how to use it within its limitations. Also - Häggvik ftw! 😁 Cheers!
Thats great! They really do still hold up, atleast for most applications. Especially if its for social media etc. And in the right hands an older version will probably beat a new model in more inexperienced hands. Haha good eye :D
@@carlscinema7086 Yes, well put, I completely agree. I mean, they probably don't hold a candle to the OG BMPCC for example in terms of general image quality (DR, etc) but in the right circumstances you really can't beat them. Haha yes, Sollentuna born and raised, although I don't live there anymore. :)
For sure, but then again they don't really compete with each other since they are so different. No auto settings at all on the Pocket for example and if you throw some water on the camera it will stop working haha. But that's to be expected since one is a mini cinema camera and one is a small actioncam.
I got one officially refurbed from GoPro in 2021. Looked perfect and cost me like £100 or so. Using a cheap HDMI to USB converter woked great as a webcam. The image was perfectly good.
Thank u so much for this video! Been looking at camera's and I'e always wanted a go pro. This video is very informative but didn't feel slow to me. Thank u!
Bougt it when it came out, in 2024 I still use it, as a filmmaker with a small Feiyu gimbal and nd filters, it still delivers great image when you know how to set it right and using it in the right conditions...On the other hand, I might upgrade it to a 12, I hope it is a gap...
Quick question, I can see that the 3.5mm mic adapter has a Type-C port does it mean that it has a charging passthrough so that you can charge the device while the external mic is attached?
You're welcome! Sounds like you are looking at new prices. I got it used so the price will depend on what kind of deal you can find. Check out the eBay or MPB links for example.
i have the Gopro HERO 5 but the upload speed is so bad if u dont do it physicaly by sd card or cable, if you do it in the aplication and, you dont have pro version of the app, its soooooo long like 6 minute video took me like 30 minutes
If anyone is reading this. Try out shooting wide 4:3 and no stabilizer and run the footage through gyroflow. Its insane how stable it can look.
This is typically what I do, it's great!

@@Yowzoeyes... Set the camera to wide-angle 60 frames per second sharpness on high
@@camposvazquez golden advice, thank you :-)
@@Yowzoe please update.. on a camera with hyper smooth/image stabilization... Run shutter speed 1/3 with an ND filter...

Yes
I cant get gyroflow to stabilize my footage from the Hero 5, if anything it looks worse. Please create a video on how you're using Gyro flow.
Nice video bro. Infact i am gonna buy one tomorrow .❤ From India
Thanks :) Enjoy!
Thank you for genuine review, Could share link to buy in Canada?? Is it 90 dollars? It shows 350 dollars on the link in description.
