I have talked quite some time with this cow that day and she listened so attentive which was lovely, but it really depends on the cow: some like to interact, others ignore me or walk away 😊 sending my warmest wishes from the green Island to you!
Christmas was pleasant this year we had a nice meal and I read A Christmas Carol. The weather was beautiful and we saw the sunrise illuminate the sky. The kids loved their gifts. Material things are good but they are just material things. My Grandson got a painting set. He is getting good! My Granddaughter loved her doll Nancy got her. I love my wife. She Is my dream come true. Just being alone is a noble thing as well. Go as your heart desires. Life is special but time off has its benefits as well.

To people stuck in the rat race all year long, it probably makes sense to use this time of the year to reflect back on their action, and muster hope and energy to do it all over again. It may bring some sense of a structure. For a person who actively went to slow living, not jammed by the noise and is much more connected to her self, I assume that this tradition understandably lost its purpose. I also assume that celebrating just out of habit may feel maybe even hollow. Thank you so much, Rahel, for sharing the mind-blowing views you enjoy and your way of life there. It all is inspiring. I guess living a slow and quiet life is so normal to me that I sometimes forget how it feels to have no time for anything, including reflecting, most of the year. Another beautiful video, Rahel. 2024 was a difficult year for me and while I never like to wish time away, I am looking forward to the new year. I celebrate Christmas, but very low stress and peaceful. It's just me and my husband and we always just make a quiet day of it. We exchange one gift each, just something small and very low cost - it's more about the thought behind it. I cook a nice meal, and we each play our guitars for a bit, read for a bit , nap for a bit. No family gatherings or parties or all the stressful stuff. We don't celebrate New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, our neighborhood lets off fireworks all night, keeping us awake and scaring our dog all night, along with all the other animals in the neighborhood. We Do celebrate on New Year's Day because it is our wedding anniversary. The world (at least around us) is so quiet since others were up all night. We get out in nature for a canoe ride or a hike to start the year off with PEACE. Thank you for your videos. They brought me much needed peace during times of stress. When you put stuff out there, you never know who and how it is impacting, so I just wanted to say Thank you. I hope 2025 is a year of love, friendship, health, and peace for you. 😘

Now that Christmas is over, everyone has their gifts, grandpa has a new lift chair that he can actually get out of, all savings goals for the year are met, and all the cardboard is recycled, I can finally relax. And like every year we tell ourselves that next year we will skip the madness and travel somewhere instead. 😂

I love to have found you here.. 🌹 I don't spend or celebrate Christmas either and, when the new year come, I hope so much to be able to leave our old, old continent for good - leaving for a country and continent which is not better but, it's different and the people are lovely. Should I at some point, for one or another reason, be forced to come back to Europe, there are only 2 places here, I will come back to - simply because I love the people there. One is Sicily, simply because it is beautiful and, I know I can live in peace on this island and, the other place, is like you have chosen, the absolutely stunning Azores!! Reasons are similar, people there are lovely, nature is stunning and, peace is possible. I love my aloneness and, I know the Azorian respect me for this, as I respect them for who they are.. I will visit once more before I leave Europe and, I will once more walk Pico and Faial, will watch the dolphins and whales, speak to nature and, just enjoy life! Should I run into a young woman looking like you, I might ask if it is indeed you and, I will probably ask if you will allow this older woman to give a cup of coffee! My instinct is just two words. MY GOODNESS I really just want to BE right in this video. Everything about this video is absolutely stunning. I am hoping at some point to go away for two of three months every winter and this is exactly what I'm hoping to find. Cool, sunny & bright and full of nature's beauty. I'm curious, when you say cold, on this day of filming what would you say the temperature was? My father used to travel there often for work and it has been on my wish list ever since. It makes me so happy that you are so enthusiastic about this little video! I'm crossing my fingers for you that one day you can spend several months in a place like this, the islands are truly a good place to spend your winters. Regarding the temperature: I believe that that day we had about 12 degrees Celsius, but truthfully here the actual number doesn't say much about the temperature. So don't be fooled by whatever the Internet, weather apps or the thermometer are saying. Depending on the wind and humidity level it feels VERY different compared to the actual number. Here on Pico the temperature never gets below 7 degrees Celsius. I originally come from a region in Germany where we can get down to -15 degrees Celsius but here on Pico 7 degrees and a strong icy north wind feel so much colder than -15 in Germany. I feel so much colder here when it appears beautifully sunny and green than when I'm in Germany when it's dark, snowy and icy. While filming this video I was very cold hence why it is so short. I was wearing many layers, woolen socks and two woolen sweaters and I only didn't wear my jacket because I felt too restricted in it while filming, but by the end of it my hands and face were freezing and it took me quite some time to warm up again. I was curious to know how it was for you to skip Christmas. I looked on that as an experiment. Christmas can be so busy that it can be disorienting., so it was good you didn't feel like you were missing anything and you had a pleasant time on your emerald isle. Nice cows over there. Here they could atttack you, if you're a stranger. Enjoy the remainder of the holiday season in your chosen way.
I rarely regret skipping anything whenever I trade it for some peaceful and quiet me-time. I'm also not very attached to holidays or traditions in general and rather celebrate the small and mundane things which have a special meaning in my life. Regarding the cows, it might have looked closer than it was since I always keep my distance. Additionally I observe their body language, talk to them in a soft manner, ask for permission to approach, respect their boundaries and try to disturb them as little as possible since I am aware that they can be unpredictable at times. Is that a temperature inversion haze Rahel? i.e. Although humid and hazy, coolish surface air temps. It looks cool and I can see there is a light onshore afternoon breeze from the scene at 2:52.
You might be right, I'm not quite sure. Pico's climate is very unique because of its volcano and has many different micro climates. At the time and in the area I filmed this video it was pretty cold, dry and clear. The view towards the ocean might appear a bit hazy on film because of the light conditions. The sun was standing so low and consequently it might have been filtered through the camera in a hazy way.

Is that a temperature inversion haze Rahel? i.e. Although humid and hazy, coolish surface air temps. It looks cool and I can see there is a light onshore afternoon breeze from the scene at 2:52.
You might be right, I'm not quite sure. Pico's climate is very unique because of its volcano and has many different micro climates. At the time and in the area I filmed this video it was pretty cold, dry and clear. The view towards the ocean might appear a bit hazy on film because of the light conditions. The sun was standing so low and consequently it might have been filtered through the camera in a hazy way.
