    Adobe Lightroom (bit.ly/adobe-dfg) has excellent panorama stitching functionality and very good colour grading tools. However it costs $120/£120 per year...every year...
    Our advice if you are not already in the Adobe ecosystem is to buy inexpensive stitching software and then Luminar NEO to edit the panoramas.
    The combination of the two is less than a year 'renting' Adobe Lightroom and Luminar NEO comes with a ton of functionality that Lightroom doesn't have.

    My hope is the the tagging and folder structure for photos taken on the DJI drones gets some improvement. It is rather tedious trying to cull through to find the raw photos taken since they are lumped into DCMI without any organization. A folder structure to organize the captured photos based on the feature used to take the photo - PANAROMA, SPHERE, MASTERSHOT etc. would be a good thing for shooting J+RAW

  • @friartist
    @friartist ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thank you for an excellent overview. I start by pushing "auto" in LightRoom. I use PTgui Pro to stitch because 1) I can mask out stuff selectively if I have enough overlap and 2) I can play around with different projections and make sure my horizon is straight and 3) in case of "trouble" stitching I can add stitching points manually. I export edited raws to PRORES 16 bit TIFF from LightRoom directly to stitch in PTGUI. In LR I can make sure to correct if exposure is varying too much between shots. Another point: apparently Dji Mini 3 pro does NOT refocus between shots in wide angle mode: the nearby grass was so out of focus in a shot. Maybe I have set something wrong?

  • @NickPowellPhotography
    @NickPowellPhotography ปีที่แล้ว

    Another amazing video Stewart!! I can HIGHLY recommend PTGui as a stitching software. As a full time 360 virtual tour photographer, it is the industry standard for accurate stitching, as you can manually adjust control points etc. You can also batch stitch imaegs which can be quite handy.
    It is quite pricey but well worth it.

  • @PaulStewartmouthtosource
    @PaulStewartmouthtosource ปีที่แล้ว

    Some great tips Stewart. In terms of deployment. I’d be interested to see/know with such big colour adjustments if Luminar is ‘edge’ aware. By this, I mean the pixels ‘match’ in the equatorial rectangle (2x1) at the extremes if you’re making an interactive pano. If they don’t then what’s the fix? Perhaps displace the image and retouch the 2 pixel edge error (which appears as a line in VR)? Cheers and how come you get the sunshine? Been rained off twice in Moidart these last week or so.

    • @PaulStewartmouthtosource

      That offer on Luminar Neo is a bargain right now. Thanks

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I'll need to check if Luminar is edge-aware for 360 panos. Lightroom is but even for huge colour adjustments it can still throw up the join when viewed as a sphere. Affinity photo is brilliant for editing 360 spheres because you can edit in the sphere itself and smooth out any joins with the heal brush. You can see a walkthrough of it in our previous video.

    • @PaulStewartmouthtosource
      @PaulStewartmouthtosource ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer my own question… no Luminar is not edge aware (might want to tell their developers). Affinity Pro can in-paint for easy fix… but it might be worth stumping up for PTGUI if you’re committed. Just sayin’.

    Hi Stewart and Alina. Thanks for all the great content, it's been very helpful for me over the past couple of years. Have you tried DxO PureRaw 2 yet? I'm still using the free 30 day trial, but I will almost certainly be investing in it. It has transformed the photo output from my Mini 2 from "a bit meh" to "something I am not embarrassed with". Seriously though, it really cleans and sharpens the RAW output from the Mini 2 to make something much more usable. I'd love to see whther it can have a similar effect on the output from the Mini 3.

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! Nope, not played with it yet but I think we'll have to. We been using Topaz Denoise for the last month or so and getting pretty great results from that. Used it with the latest 360 cameras that produce quite noisy images. What's interesting now is to what extent you could use software like this to eliminate the need to upgrade a 'cheap' camera like an action camera or a lower spec drone. Certainly if photos are your focus, then the answer is probably yes. What do you think?

    • @ahesharpe8106
      @ahesharpe8106 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DroneFilmGuide Yes, it is quite amazing (for an old photographer like me, and I mean OLD) that software can make such a difference to what I had previously understood to be "fixed" in a RAW file. I also have Topaz Denoise, and I don't know whether it is me but I find it can create artifacts which only give the impression of sharpness (It's probably my bad technique). Whereas DxO PureRaw 2 appears to simply create a sharper and less noisy image, without lots of controls to have to tweak. I have to pay for the full Adobe Creative Cloud for my real job, so I am pretty resistant to spending extra money, but DxO PureRaw 2 is definitely going to be on my purchase list next month. Give it a try, it is a fully-functioning 30-day trial, I think you might like it, and I'd love to see what it can do to stills from your camera and drone collection. By the way, I have no connection with DxO, and I don't usually extoll the benefits of new software, but that's how amazed I am by it.

    You mention manual vertical panos and mentioned one that looks like 180 had 27 images stitched together. In vertical the angle of view is narrow. I did a quick try today and overshot the angle and there was not enough or any overlap. I'm just a bigginer. I just used the image on screen, the little compass and looking at the drone itself. Is there anyway to overlay the yaw angle on the screen or something like that or a script you can use to automate it to hover at a certain height then start taking shows and a certain yaw, rotate x degrees, take a shot and repeat, y times?

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! That's just the base version. The extensions weren't out when this video was made. For a one-time purchase they've made the new extensions quite expensive because they want to get people on the subscription mode. IF you are interested in the extensions then the best option is to go for the annual subscription (i.e. paying up-front for each year...every year). Given the functionality it's good value compared with Lightroom/Photoshop. But like I say, we're just using the base version and it's still got the main functions you would need for photo editing. Cheers!

      @@DroneFilmGuide Thanks, just went for the base version as the editing options in your video look enough for me, and I hate subscriptions! I used your code too, so hopefully you get some kickback from it. Cheers!

    The biggest problem is that DJI twists the camera slightly for their wide angle panoramas and none of the mentioned apps in my experience knows how to handle this well to get straight horizons again. The only one that does a decent job (still not as good as DJI) is PTgui on Mac which sucks because I have moved 90% of my photo and video workflow over to the iPad.
    Has anyone figured out a solution for this issue other than shooting manual?

  • @RafaelVianaa
    @RafaelVianaa ปีที่แล้ว

    I will have to try this 😉 If you are flying and shooting a video but want to take a picture, do you do it anyway if you are using ND filters?

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing. As long as there isn't too much motion in the shot, 1/50th shutter will be fine for many photos. But if you've got things close to the camera like people, cars, waves etc., there is a risk you'll see motion blur in the photo so it would be best to land and take the ND off.

    How did you overlay the text "Panorama " shown on your thumb nail?

    Thanks again😎.
    I have Neo and yes for years I slid sliders right left up down with limited success. With Neo I use 2 or 3 slides for Landscape and a few for portraits and I am very pleased with the results.
    Of course now I have 15+ years of old family / enthusiasts photos (raw) and videos that are screaming to be updated. Oh my🤣

    Thanks so much for this!!! It got me more interested in shooting panoramas with my Mini3 instead of just shooting video. I forgot that I had Panorama stitcher and it's a great alternative to using the built in DJI stitched jpeg!! You guys ROCK!

    Hi Stewart, on my mini3 the dng files straight from the drone don’t seem crisp like the jpg’s, they look grainy in comparison. Is this right? Thanks Matti.

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Shots all taken on 100 ISO? If so, they shouldn't really be more grainy than the jpegs.

    By the way, what is New in the v3 version of the masterclass?

    • @DroneFilmGuide
      @DroneFilmGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! The whole course has been overhauled to ensure it is absolutely up-to-date for 2022. We have also added three, 20-minute 'adventures' in the Scottish Highlands where we put some of the more theoretical parts of the course into practice. They are filmed in incredible locations and are an epic addition. The whole course is around 9 hours now. It's been refined, re-filmed, embellished and expanded since 2018 so it's 9 hours of intense, value-add content. Not a wasted word. We're very proud of it and the reviews support everything said here. It's a free upgrade for those who purchased Masterclass 2.0.
      Thanks for the question and the opportunity to talk about it!

    Hi Stewart downloaded Panorama Stitcher and kept the DNG as TIFF but was surprised to discover the file was only 72DPI. If I take a DNG file into Photoshop it it automatically converted to 300DPI. Any thoughts.

    • @cybernetix86
      @cybernetix86 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have a look at the pixel count, it should be the same either way. DPI is mostly for prints not for image resolution. But make sure by looking at the resolution itself.

    With so many people looking to you for advice and guidance, you really need to be careful with your terminology. 7:06 "there's a little bit of grain in the image". NO, there isn't! Grain is what you see in film. NOISE is what you're looking at in a digital image. Grain can be good in certain circumstances, and even artificially produced in the likes of NIK Silver Efex Pro, for example. Noise, however can never be good, which is why there is so much software around dedicated to minimising it.
