    This needs to be a $15 - $20 option from the manufacturer. Cheap enough for the consumer to afford, expensive enough for the manufacturer to make a small profit.

    Hey Karl, great video of how to make this rig a more solid rig. I just got the new csl pedals with load cell and was using a wheel stand. I just ordered the art cockpit with the xl seat and used your discount code. Thanks for saving me 35 bucks. Im going to follow this video once I get my new rig and brace it just like you did. Now all I need is the fanatec wheel. I am all in for sim racing now and I partially blame you Karl. Sim racing is too much fun. Thanks for making such in depth videos. Cheers.

    I love how you have taken a budget rig and made it work better than its initial design. I have a desk setup, but have been considering a rig for my man cave. I am more partial to the round tubular metal rigs. But, You have me thinking about this style rig.

    Great video, thanks for this easy fix, I just got through setting up the ART and will receive the wheel and peddles today, I made a venture out into my wood shop being a wood working and found some strips of walnut will that will work nicely for those braces, being it's a hard wood they should be hardy enough to do the job.
    One other thing that I did was to add Johnson Paste Wax to the table rails to help them slide up and down better. JPW is a great lubricant and will last forever without any mess. I just dipped my finger down into the can and wiped it around inside of the upright tubes and used a paper towel to wipe it on all sides of both rails and it slides up and down nicely no binding.

    • @Babyboomer_59
      @Babyboomer_59 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update, I have a short stature so I found that leaving the wheel mount down inside of the rails at it's lowest position fit myself nicely, By doing so there's no wobble up and down but side to side there is, so it looks like I may only need support for side to side movement.

  • @randyiron2
    @randyiron2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The cross bars are a good idea! You could also use a plate wide enough for 4 bolt holes. Then you could probably mount more things to it.

    Actually for the side to side movement elimination at the bottom of the upright tubes for the monitor mount these tubes are directly over top of the bottom horizontal tube that ties the two sides together.
    You can use 4 flat "L" braces to tie these uprights on both the front side and rear side of the horizontal crosstube which will eliminate all of the side to side flex in the wheel stand uprights as it basically ties these parts together as one solid assembly rather than the stock assembly which only uses a single bolt on the outside of the horizontal lower bar acting as the anchor.
    Really simple, only cost a few dollars to buy the brackets and drill a few holes to mount with sheet metal screws and eliminates the play inherent to the original assembly. If you just look at the design it is really easy to see how this is such a good addition even if you still want to do the X crossbar addition higher up as well.

      @@donaldlaury7193 well I’ve had the completed rig for about 2 weeks now and it’s incredible! The 5nm power pack is the perfect amount of feedback for me. I will be getting the load cell brake pedal and the csr Xbox wheel soon so I can play on ps5, series x, and pc. Absolutely no complaints though and once you go direct drive, you never go back. I also built a heavy duty platform with 5 inch caster wheels for the gt omega art because my tv is above my fire place so I needed it up off the ground a bit and having the mobility is awesome. My place isn’t enormous so being able to wheel it into my laundry room and get it out of the way is crucial. But anytime someone comes over and sees the rig, it’s the first thing they wanna do haha it’s fun for hours.

      I’ve owned a rig before and I paired it with a Fanatec Forza CSR wheel and elite pedals (which had a load cell). I found the rig uncomfortable and ironically I was slower in Forza with a wheel versus a joypad. It’s the old Thrustmaster vs Fanatec debate. I’d like to try before I buy but that’s not possible. I don’t think the Logitech offering would be bad, but I’ve owned the Fanatec in the past so I’m looking for something premium. I’ll keep researching and see where it takes me.
