I have now recorded this scene with the other companions as well.

Karlach doesn't have a scene like this. She reacts nothing to the murder.
I got Karlach's version
@@sljzz441 how? can you show it to us? I had no other companion except her and still didn't speak up. And she never speaks up when the whole group is there.
"People can't just be murdered in camp, some of us are important"
And suddenly Astarion went from a D&D character, to a D&D player.
I love that he can hit you with a “thats pretty reasonable actually” and just leaves it at that
although he still waits for more explanation there. I love the "and you moved things along? how good of you" sarcastic response when we say alfira would have died anyway because she is naive. Lol
I feel like the sudden casualness of that "that does sound pretty reasonable actually" almost comes off as him being like "oh shit if I annoy this person with further interrogation they might kill me" lol
"That does sound pretty reasonable, actually." 🤣
But right before that he also has a moment of shock when he says "I see..." xD then the joking mask comes forward.
"Stabbing someone a dozen times can be many things but the right thing? I doubt it" - well, Astarion, wait till we reach Cazador
I love all those little hints and jokes in conversation that you only catch during your replays 😂
I agree. Stabbing Cazador dozens of times is not the right thing to do. Because he deserved worse than that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And he's still right, a dozen times is clearly too little, I'd go with 30 or 40 times
@@fheizhi "then he ran into my knife. he ran into my knife 30 times."
I’ve always recommended an Astarion only team run. The other companions override his much more amusing dialogue. Larian mostly fixed this with full release but, Astarion is my favourite character in the whole game
Definitely gonna try out an Astarion only playthrough once I’m finished with my first run! I forget that you can easily just leave behind or kill companions xD
@@purepup9969 One way to make the game infinitely more interesting on replays is to just roleplay what each character would do based on their qualities in exactly that way. I had a playthrough where my character was very cautious and not versed in Arcana, and just shrank back from Gale and left him in the portal! I depressed myself there, but it made that feel distinct from other playthroughs. You see so much more when you do this sort of thing.
He is just too enjoyable. This video and the comments make me feel like I need to run with him alone sometime for sure.
@@WynneL I always ignore Gale. I like Tim Downey he’s a funny comedian and great VA but I can’t stand Gale as a character.
Been doing that as dark urge. You miss the "drink others" camp scene, and a loooot of banter that doesn't pop up cuz no followers. Tav unfortunately doesn't have many banter lines interaction. But the romance/durge run feels more intimate. It's also funny how the camp is big and empty yet astarion decided to plop his tent far away
"Stabbing someone a dozen times can be many things. But the right thing to do? I doubt it."
Astarion is such a perfect mix of committed murder hobo and cynical common sense.
That's insane they even considered this as a course of action for this game.
It's not exactly a course of action, you have no choice in her murder. It just happens when you long rest as DU for the first time and there is nothing you can do to prevent it
@@ashleymaye1422 I meant having reactions that only trigger in game if Astarion is the only companion
i'm on my 3rd playtrough and the game keeps amazing me how much i've missed. it's insane
actually there is a way to avoid killing alfira. you just have to knock her out first then go long rest and theres a differnent much much less involved npc to murdr instead@@ashleymaye1422
@wh0rrendous I tried to trigger this, but he straight up ignored the corpse in camp. . . I reloaded it, and same thing. Must have been bugged. . .
I think Astarion always knows you killed Alfira. Calls me his “Stab happy friend” after it happened. He also would stay out at night to find food, so it makes sense that he may see something.
in my Durge game, he called me his stab-happy friend literally minutes after meeting me and I just paused what I was doing for a minute to look at him like, "bruh...... gettin a bit ahead of ourselves, aren't we?" lol
Yes! Also, the fact that Durge can blame Alfira's death on a wild boar and Astarion's little knowing response to it "yes true...there are SO MANY dangerous creatures out in these forests." lol
I think it's just because he recognizes a predator when he meets one. He had to, to avoid becoming the hunted instead of the hunter.
I love his sing-song "It's time to start ta~lki~ng"
The snark in this scene is off the charts. I can't stop cracking up at the "Sooooo, the bard's dead..."
Slaughtered even
The yes dear I can see that you’ve killed her is so good
3:08 i love that they put in echo when voices get raised
I hadn't even noticed that!
Durge: I killed her because she annoyed me
Astarion: Understandable, have a nice day
Anyone notice how he's programmed to have that same idle stance in so many conversations? The palms forward with arms held away from sides. Like he's always saying without words "HERE I am!" 😂
I think that the default stance is part of how they do the mocap - they start and end in that stance so it's easier to connect dialogue bits. (Saw some of the actors describing this)
I think that’s the elf idles but he may have his own idle animations. Neil Newbon did all the mocap for him so it’s possibly his personalized animation set. I adore this character so much xD
@@domenceuspriest Astarion's voice actor said in an interview that Astarion is meant to have this palms out, chest forward idle stance to make him seem regal in the begininng and they softened it over the acts to show how comfortable he becomes with the player. It's only the default stance in the beginning but wasn't a choice because of the mocap. Laezel also softens overtime and stops snapping and jerking her head as much.
@@ReplicatorFifthit’s specifically for Astarion, see comment above mine. I love this game

“She annoyed me”
“Sounds reasonable to me”
Okay, well I know what my 16th playthrough of this game will be now. Astarion only companion. lol.
there is a way to get around this. if you have already recruited the others, just let them all die and tell withers to watch over their corpses for now. You don't resurrect them until after this scene, so that way only the one companion who is alive can speak here.
@@MGamingVideos You are beautiful and a scholar. Thank you for this.
I'm on my 4th run and didn't bother to recruit anyone besides Astarion. He the only person I need. I'm afraid I will become addicted to Astarion being my only companion lol
@@MKanakaredes If you are prone to addiction, then I recommend staying away from Shadowheart and the Guidance and Enhanced Ability spells. I have a compulsive need to pass every skill check I do, and Shadowheart is a ride or die for me because she buffs my convo checks.

"Some of us are important. Unlike Alfira."
Omg I love it. The delivery is so perfect.
Astarion has the sassiest and hilarious line in this game, next to Gale actually.
I don't remember everyone I've killed, but I do remember everyone I've killed *in the last five minutes* lol
I'm really gonna have to try an Astarion only run. Sounds lonely, spooky, AND sexy! 😂 Love your Tav, btw; that's my favorite half-elf face by far. I chose it for mine and did a kind of moon elf cleric of Selune, which makes for a very interesting Dark Urge. Very ironic; a nice contrast for my vanilla Tav, who is a duergar Archfey bardlock; cheeky and chaotic. Both are kind of the opposite of the stereotypes others would apply to them.
God, I love this game and all its wild permutations... first RPG which really feels truly different based on how hard you embrace the individual characters you make.
"Sooo.... it's time to start talking!" Lol
"Sooo, the bard's dead...!" 😆
It’s that high pitch he uses when saying “talking” that gets me 😂
"So.........."
😂
Wow, I never even thought about how scenes might play out with only one person in your party. This must have taken quite a bit of work, thank you!
This scene plays out with full party as well.
I mean if you break her lute before, then she shows up unannounced clearly disgusted that the "hero" is the lute smashing asshole, even without the dark urge that's understanable excuse (by astarion standard)
I’m starting to wonder if some of the times Astorion approves of our meaner actions he’s just trying to stay on our good side, that would make sense considering he seems to value survival
I've tried so many times to get this dialogue, even with astarian as the only one in my party shadowheart is always the one who reacts to this scene
you can only get it if Astarion is the only companion. you can't have others at camp
Neil Newbon is a treasure ❤
I wanted this one so bad but Gale took priority :( At least Astarion did chip in but not a whole lot
I kept trying to get this dialogue by having Astarion the only one in my party, but I kept getting either Karlach or Gale leading the inquisition. Astarion would join in the dialogue
yes, it doesn't work like that. anyone who is at camp can speak up. So basically everyone you have recruited. You can only see this if Astarion is your only companion.
(But you could cheat by letting the other companions die the previous day, telling Withers to watch over their corpses instead of resurrecting them immediately. That way only the one companion who is alive can talk.)
@@MGamingVideos you've saved me a shit ton of agony because I couldn't get it to trigger
Lots of ppl in the comments saying they recommend an Astarion only run. As fun and lovely as that sounds, how do y'all do boss fights with two people in your party? I feel like the game would have be on easy or something lmao
yeah. either put it on easy mode or you can use the hirelings withers offers.
(but... you totally don't need an astarion only run to see this scene. you can let all the other companions die the previous day. make them jump from a big height or something. tell withers to watch over them for now.and you only resurrect them the next morning after this scene has played. )
I'm doing this Astarion only run
I must say that it's not as difficult as it seems if you're already good at the game, (it's just my 4th run and i can do it on balanced mode, no mods)
My Tav is a Paladin and my Astarion is Rogue as default, i just tank everything and he does the damage, if you're a durge (like my tav) its even easier
I must say that I'm having so much fun rn and some fights that i used to struggle with on my other runs, i did it on first try having fun
Try it out, who knows if you'll like it
@@meisha2614how does Durge not immediately oathbreak? You playing vengeance or smthn?

The way he says “it’s time to start talking” leaves me in stitches every time. 😂

His reaction when you say the bard annoyed you. Ahahaha!
Okay, what mod are you using to figure out if an option would improve or not a companion's approval rating?
www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2027 (It's not always perfect. I kinda just installed it out of curiosity to see even the approvals for companions who aren't in the party at a given moment)
You dont even need approval, im doing 2 char run and you can romance chars with 0 approval from recruitment time,
@@DoffyDogg right, but if you notice in the video they're using a mod. "Karlach 1, Lae'zel -1" or whatever after the options for reply.
@@DoffyDogg the mod isn't for romance. It's not my first time playing so I know most of the approvals already. And it's pretty easy to increase anyway.
But it's interesting to know their opinions on things. And normally you only discover that if the character is in the party and you also happen to pick that option.
Karlach also has the dialogue. Though the scene with Wyll seems to always trigger with priority over Alfira. I had to refuse joining him for the scenario with solo Karlach trigger.
I am a bit confused by what you are trying to say here. "scene with wyll seems to trigger with priority over Alfira"? I triggered wyll's full dialogue in the quill grootslang version, not just the alfira version or what do you mean by "priority over alfira".
And when I tried triggering Karlach's dialogue she was the only one present, so there was no wyll, no other companions. That's how I recorded the full dialogue for every companion. So if Karlach indeed has dialogue then it must be bugged in my game because there is simply no scene for me.
@@MGamingVideos I meant the scene where Wyll confronts Karlach in your camp always triggers before the scene with Alfina, so rejecting him is the only way to have just Karlach in your camp. If you had just Karlach too, then maybe they fixed it after you recorded the scenes.
@@KethusNadroev I will check it again in that case. Maybe the karlach version can also trigger now.
Astarion: Yes dear, I can see that you killed her. But why did you kill her?
Tav: She annoyed me.
Astarion: I see... That does sound pretty reasonable, actually. *takes slay pose*
The dye on their outfits is gorgeous! is that a mod or regular dye in game?
the main character's sorcerer robe is not dyed. it's the storm sorcerer starter outfit. but Astarion's clothes are dyed with a black dye that isn't available in the game unfortunately. It's from the basket full of equipment mod: www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/97 It adds a bunch of dyes which don't run out.
Ah thanks so much@@MGamingVideos I've tried modding and it's broken my game so waiting itll patches aren't so frequent.
i had this interaction with a full party (minus gale, i ate his hand). you just get up and talk to him.
you can't have had this exact scene with a full party. when you wake up everybody is standing there asking you what happened. so each companion says 1 or 2 lines but that of course means you can't see everything they would say. when that's over, the only dialogue astarion has when we talk to him is the "I don't blame you for what happened to that bard Alfira"
@@MGamingVideosI think only Astarion should be group member, others just in camp and not added in group.
But it’s just a theory
@@katiatall I will check tomorrow. But I don't think that would work. usually anyone who is at camp can speak.

8:10 THE ECHOES gosh this game is good
Bruh I literally had to murder all of my other companions just to get this to trigger. Tag teamed on them with Astarion and whichever other companions were closest to the one I was killing and worked my way down the list. Had to use turn based mode because the bastards kept healing themselves somehow. Also on an unrelated note, anyone know how to play this little magic flute? Gale’s hologram won’t stop hitting the gritty in my blood circle and it’s annoying as the hells.
"It's time to start TAALLKIINNGG" 😆
Soooo……. It’s time to start talkiiiiiing ✨🎶✨
I always had only him while playing durge xd I killed almost everyone else on sight
In my camp there was most of the time only skeleton guy, Astarion and doggy 🥰
I’m curious why/how it shows you the affect the dialogue option will have (Will-1)(Astarion 1) (etc etc)
It's a mod.
I am curious of the mod you've used that shows the approval/disapproval reactions of companions..
www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2027
He's so sassy XD
So this can only happen as durge right? And around when in the game does it trigger? And before I trigger the scene I need to make sure he is the only companion in my party? Sorry for all the questions 😭😂
yes. It's a dark urge specific scene. It triggers around the fifth or sixth camp night I think. (It can differ if other scenes take a priority.) And yes, he has to be the only one recruited. So you need to ignore shadowheart on the beach. You need to avoid meeting gale (or chop off his hand and kill him). You need to leave Lae'zel in her cage etc. So you kinda have to be a dick towards the other companions. 😭 But I am trying out new things.
(The other companions must have a similar scene so I want to try this with the others as well.)
by the way, you can save Alfira if you knock her out while she is singing in the grove. Then another bard will appear at you camp and you will kill that character instead.
After the grove at some point, yes as durge, you can either go meet alfira or not but she'll show up at some point after you leave the grove and long rest
yes. In this version I didn't even talk to Alfira, she just showed up and introduced herself. So it happens a couple of nights after you entered the grove.
@@MGamingVideosyou can avoid meeting them, and after this recruit them
Would it be the same scene if only Astarion in group, everyone else just in camp not in group?
It’s unfair, full dialogue skipped, because I had other members in group too
I don't think so. I will check but in my other playthrough where I had full party, I think it was random who spoke (not necessarily just the ones who were in my group at the moment). Anyone who is at camp can speak.
Also notice that here in the vid he has dialogue that kinda sounds specific for when they are alone. we can say "i understand if you want to leave" and that dialogue option never comes up when we have a whole group. It's something we can say when 1 companion is alone with a creepy murderer. lol
I have checked and as I suspected that doesn't work. It doesn't matter if you only have 1 character in the party. Any companion who is currently at camp can speak up.
(I guess one way to get around this when they are already recruited is if they are all dead and waiting for resurrection.)
@@MGamingVideos thank you, yes it triggers only if you have 1 companion entirely
What do you use to see the approval scores for options?
I'd maybe edit out the repeats as it got pretty annoying and I couldn't finish the video because of it, but maybe that's just me (trying to be constructive, not rude btw, but I apologize if I come off that way)
You have a mod that tells you the characters' approval???? I NEED THAT
www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2027
is the respones completely rng for which companion responds? i have Gale, Shart, Astarion, Lae'zel in camp and Astarion is the only one that DOESN'T pipe in! i've reloaded at least 10 times and chose different options in the murder scene. Just can't get his responses. I've even tried shuffling the party around and removing everyone but Astarion, but Shart seems incredibly keen to be the main interigator!
I think Larian set up some sort of priority order for these type of scenes. Shart often takes precedence over everyone else (maybe because she is the most romanced and most popular companion? but idk)
the only way to make sure you see a certain companion's response is to kill off the others before the scene happens
i've actually gone as far as to killing all my other companions except Astarion just to get his reactions XD@@MGamingVideos
I love their outfits here, what dye did you use?
What dye is this? I’m really loving the black and gold.
Unfortunately this dye isn't available in the base game. You can get it from the basket full of equipment mod: www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/97
The mod also has black-silver dye and completely black dye.
And you can reuse them endlessly.
Sooooo
Wow
When does this scene happen just satrted my du playthrough and wanna see it 😂
pretty early on so you will see it soon.
Are the head pieces mods or are they in game? if so where are they?
the headpieces are in the game. you can find 4 (I think) headpieces that look like this. One can be looted from Lump the Enlightened (ogre you can hire to fight for you). One or two of them can be purchased in the myconid colony from traders. the fourth one I don't remember right now.
The black-gold colour is from a dye in the basket full of equipment mod. But you can dye the headpieces to multiple colours even without the mod. they can look gold (just with different gemstone colour) in the base game.
@@MGamingVideos ok tysm i've been trying to find it for a while, thank you! ☺

www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2027
wait -- this is rare??? I had this scene with all companions recruited (shart/laezel were definitely around) and it was my first playthrough... what do you mean it's not what actually happens? :D
the other characters must have also talked for you, no? shadowheart is often first to speak but it's random who talks. which means that none of them can say all their lines because they override each other. and the player's response options are also slightly different.
@@MGamingVideos hm I am not sure if the others said anything 🤔 could be that I was just lucky and Astarion was the main talker in this
