Lol the 4:3 letterbox and laserdisc quality on the bonus discs make the films look awful, Lucasfilm put no effort into this release at all. Even so, they're still pieces of history, and I'm glad I have them. I mean, they're the first and only release of the original unaltered cuts of the OT on DVD, that's pretty special.
You know these 1993 masters are shit, but it could've been worse. They could've used the 1989 special Widescreen Edition Laserdisc from CBS FOX. You know the ones the Masters with the shrinking aspect ratio, the more pronunced dirt, but yet has better colors and no DNR, but the shrinking ratio. Also something tells me that an LD transfer of OT on DVD would've worked in 1998 and then make a new transfer off the 70mm scans of all three films, in like 2003.

As a GenX er I grew up with the Original and loved the Prequel and witness all of them in theaters as they were meant to be seen and was fortunate to view this live Musical Journey concert, regrettably not with the original narrator as on the CD/DVD the Dark Lord of the Sith Emperor himself played by Ian McDiarmid but humorously our Narrator was the Talent Anthony Daniels Threepio himself who provide a unique experience back into the Saga. I loved the "Yug-Yup-Nub" song as well as the new track in the Special Editions which in contrast one can see objective what warrant the change back the ending seem a more solemn epic but the child in me that grew up with the original Ewok song looks fondly at it with a smile, for me it was the Ewok not celebrating about the end of the Empire but the creation of friend to an extend family and thus are sing about that as it chorus climatic to an epic final conclusion at a Hopeful Note to this Tragic Saga with only Luke Skywalker GrandMaster aware of the cost for the true celebration.. The Ewok Adventures both TV films and the Holiday Special, as well the animated Ewoks & Droid series are the only critical poor attempt with intriguing concepts that I will accept more as apocryphal selective on accepting what works (Boba Fest first appears Animation clip) versus the stuff that doesn't which speaks for itself. Nevertheless they are more canon than the Anti-Sequel Trilogy. The animated 3-D Clone Wars Film & TV series aLucas/Filoni (2008-2014. 2020) along with the 2-D The Clone Wars min mini-series (2003-2005) Gennedy Tarakovsky/Lucas filler to the OT/PT only part of this Skywalker Saga are the crown aspect ranking above but with KOTOR. May the 4th Be With You that are part of the true Fandom Menace and recognize the sincerity in introducing to the modern generation the Legend of the Hero's Journey with the Everyman story with the Hero of Many Faces. They are Legends BUT not in the manner that the Anti-Sequel Trilogy Disney Abomination-Kennedy/Abrams would have you think...they are canon to Lucas vision while the other material after 2014 is Apocryphal at worst & Forgotten False Nightmare at best but is Pseudo-Star Wars.

I not only have all this dvds, but have them with dubs in Portuguese what makes them pretty special and unique too. Nowadays they have some good value for dvds. But I don’t see myself selling it hahaha

They're are also fan edits called the Despecialized Editions in which they have restored the original cuts of the films. They weren't released officially, but if you know how to get them, I hear they're great.

These are the only copies I have of the unaltered versions. But despite the non-anamorphic format and low res, I'm happy to stick with these (I'm not gonna try downloading Harmy's Despecialized Editions). Plus I watched them again just recently and still enjoyed them.

My recommended viewing order of the movies is to show the unaltered theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy, then the Prequel Trilogy, the Special Edition of the Original Trilogy, and finally the Sequel Trilogy. Thankfully, this DVD release makes it possible.

And while the Special Edition refers to the 1997 re-release, you can still stretch it to refer to all the subsequent re-releases that had changes made to the movie.

I don't necessary like what I'm hearing about the quality of this, but I have seen a whole lot worse. In fact, I'm not exaggerating when I say some DVDs I've got literally look 100% like they've converted VHS directly to disc, with the quality staying VHS-like. Saying this in the most polite way possible, I am saying that others may dislike the motion smearing and certain other issues, which I totally understand and respect, but that is literally the absolute least of my worries compared to some of the abominations I'm supposed to call DVDs. I mean, this kind of quality I actually like because it gives a vintage kind of look to the film, but some of my DVDs take that to possibly the worst extreme.

The issue is that they are very low quality transfers. There are all kinds of picture problems, dirt on the film, and poor audio quality. Are they watchable? Absolutely. Were they not given the special treatment they deserve? Yes. People want an HD release of the original versions, not some transfer from an older format.
Probably because these 2006 versions (taken from low quality 1993 laserdisc masters) were so poorly presented in terms of picture quality, aspect ratio etc, that many fans (myself included) do not consider these to be acceptable releases. IMO they were basically conning fans into re-purchasing the 2004 dvd releases, which were replicated on disc 1 of the 2006 sets.

Each of the 3 movie comes also with a bonus disc that includes interviews, commentary and the unaltered versions of the original movies. That makes this the only official release of The unaltered original trilogy on DVD, but the colours weren’t „corrected“ and the movies are not cleaned up for DVD. To be fair, they still look awesome, but are NOT full screen. The 2006 limited edition is therefore pretty rare because its the only official way to watch the original trilogy unaltered on DVD and not only on VHS. There has yet to be a release for those on Blu Ray. The official 2011 Blu Ray release of the 6-part Star Wars saga includes even more alterations that are by far the worst additiona and definetely ruin ROTJ the most imo. The 2015 release and the Netflix versions of the Star Wars movies are identical to the 2011 blu ray versions.

I brought them on Amazon a couple years ago. And from what I can tell, they're still available there.
A little bit of hunting on eBay and you could find them for reasonable prices.
In 2008 they bundled all three in a box set and the only difference was the cases were thinner
