Episode III Preview
The movies on the DVDs were not the original theatrical versions, but new edits utilizing many of the changes made for the 1997 Special Edition versions (altering or removing some), while also including additional changes.
In addition to an extensive and comprehensive high-definition digital cleanup and restoration job by Lowry Digital, several major image adjustments were made in order to make the films visually resemble the Prequel trilogy. I got my first DVD player in 1999 and I remember waiting 5 long years for the Star Wars trilogy to finally come out on DVD.

Despite only featuring the Special Editions but no theatrical versions, buying the 2004 DVD set of the original Star Wars trilogy has certainly been a day long remembered. My nan actually got it for me and we watched the DVDs of each movie together. Even though I later brought the 2006 Limited Edition DVDs and then The Complete Saga Blu-ray set, I still have the 2004 set as the other releases do not include the bonus features from the 2004 set. Specifically, The Empire of Dreams documentary.

For me, it’s probably the 1995 THX release and the 2004 release that I enjoy probably the most.
I enjoy the 2004 special edition, mind me because it feels somewhat complete when looking at episode three specifically.
The changes between 2011-2019 is when it got ridiculous, Vader is Noooo in Jedi was completely unnecessary and ridiculously cringe.
I remember on the night of Christmas 🎄 Eve in 2004 My dad got a copy of this DVD I was excited to watch these movies on DVD for the first time on DVD.

I still have got that trilogy!! In time it became my most precious thing.
I was six whenever I got this. My parents bought it for me when I was six. They got it from K-Mart, I can't tell you how excited I was. I had the videos and the first two prequels, but not the original trilogy. Back then, my brother and I did not care too much about keeping things in the proper condition, but I made sure to treat these with the highest amount of care.
I was so excited about this back then. My dad pre-ordered it back then. We enjoyed the remastered picture and sound quality, it was a wonderful experience for when Star Wars was finally coming out on DVD.
This DVD set made my childhood special. I loved finding out how these movies were made. The only only problem was, for a holiday, I asked for this set to be in Full-Screen, because I thought it was superior to Wide-Screen. Also, the golden full-screen box looked cooler than the silver wide-screen box set. Well now I own every S.W. film on Digital. Live and Learn lol

Patrick Wilson At the time I was a young kid and thought the bars on the top and bottom were distracting. Not to long after, I realized how wrong I was.
LOL I thought the same. I bought the golden widescreen box set, then bought the silver widescreen box set and gifted the full screen to someone else who is happy with it. I then traded the widescreen at blockbuster and got the 2 disc limited editions. I then traded those for the three disc widescreen box set without the bonus disc. I then bought the 2 disc limited editions AGAIN and sold the three disc box set. I then sold the 3 disc box set on Amazon for $75. Now my collection consists of the prequels, each movie in a 2 disc set, the 2 disc limited editions of the classics and the Ewok Adventure films, both films in one disc. Guess how much money I spent/wasted :-(
Watching Star Wars in fullscreen is like watching Pulp Fiction in fullscreen. Just awful.

Got them on DVD, though they're only the 2005 versions and not the 2004 versions with the "Empire of Dreams" documentary with the fourth disc. Regardless, they introduced me to The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi which made me even more of a Star Wars fan than ever. So that's why I hold these DVDs/Special Editions close to my heart.

That's kind of been a tradition since the VHS trailers, spoiling the ultimate plot twist by showing it in the trailer. They did it yet again in the 2006 Limited Edition DVD trailer. However, it seems like they eventually realized this when the time came for the 2011 Blu-ray trailers, which doesn't show "I am your father." at all this time.

Most American releases of DVDs and blu-rays are in Spanish check the languages on the main menu
The 2006 or 2008 versions and the 2004 Bonus Disc are the best way to go for The Original Trilogy.

Those are the ones I own. I just wish they would've included some of those vintage making off specials. Like From Star Wars to Jedi. And the Leonard Maltin interviews. And the ones in the Special Editions VHS. They could've left out the demo of the game, the stuff from Episode III to make space for it. Just concentrate on the first 3 films.

I heard that Lucas was planning to release the OT on DVD much later, but moved it up due to concerns about bootleg copies. I wonder if he was planning to release the OT DVDs in 2007?? That would have been fitting because that would have marked ANH's 30th Anniversary!!
